The season just before war

A little English town's residents are followed through the outbreak of World War I in the book The Season just before war Beatrice Nash, the book's main character, is a young woman who was just orphaned. She relocates to Rye in the summer of 1914 in order to get away from the controlling family members who are in charge of managing her inheritance. The conflict gradually robs the town of its life over the coming months while she establishes herself as a Latin instructor. Despite difficulties and sadness, Beatrice has a period of positive personal development as a result of Rye's decline.
