The state of Hawaii is a beautiful place to live, with its stunning scenery and laid-back culture. But Captain Robert Bronson has discovered that there are other, more sinister elements lurking beneath the surface at the Hawthorne Correction Facility, as corruption and nepotism run rampant at the largest prison in the state.
What would the public think if they knew their hard-earned tax dollars were being used to feed the perverse appetites of its prison employees? What if they discovered that prisoner rehabilitation, and the creation of a safe and secure living and working environment, were mere afterthoughts? What if they unwittingly discovered that for those in charge, "Corrections" was code for deception, depravity, corruption and manipulation? And yet, equally as sad, others who knew that code stood by and watched in horrified silence?
Robert Bronson teetered on the brink of uncertainty in this festering hellhole of darkness. And as its tentacles reach out to smother those around him, he is forced to decide whether to face this darkness head on, or hide in plain sight like the rest.
As Bronson begins to uncover the long-hidden secrets of the prison Chief and her family, he finds himself caught in a whirlwind of destruction.
Will he survive - and if so, to what degree? Or will his life be torn apart, caught, in the inexorable storm of the Ascott Maelstrom?
