Raising a Uromastyx

The common name "Uromastyx" refers to a group of lizards of the family Agamidae. Spiny-tailed lizards, or uromastyxes, are popular names for these reptiles; the word "uromastyx" comes from a variant of the scientific name for the species. Uromastyx lizards are easily recognizable due to their spiny tail and sturdy build. Those regions of the world include North Africa, the Middle East, and even areas of South Asia are their primary habitats.
Herbivorous in nature, Uromastyx lizards prefer a diet of leaves, flowers, and seeds. They have adapted to the dry, hot conditions of the desert and can be found underground in their burrows.
There are several species of uromastyx lizards, and coloration and patterning can vary greatly, even within a single species. Their distinct appearance and mild demeanor make them desirable pets among reptile fans.
