This book examines the social, cultural, and political life of ethnic Germans in Philadelphia from their participation in the founding of the colony of Pennsylvania to the entry of the United States into World War I. The author analyzes how perceptions of Philadelphia's Germans quickly became perceived as a domestic threat during the war.
