Mary's Yard

Mary's Yard is a children's book series that is an excellent nigh-time story read for children ages 1-3 and is an interesting early reader for those starting to read on their own. It is written in and introduces children to poetic structures that make for easy and pleasant-sounding reading. The title of the book Mary's Yard depicts her backyard and also her playground. It is where she learns about things that exist there from insects to animals, weather and seasons, and how they come to share this world with her, how they live, who and what they are. Mary spends most of her time outdoors, exploring the seemingly endless wilderness that is her backyard, but to her, it is the world. Every day she seeks a new adventure and she can't wait to get out of bed in the morning to see what awaits her outside. Exploration and learning is the theme and hopefully, the Mary's Yard Series will plant some seeds of interest in younger children to go and explore for themselves. In this first book in the Mary's Yard series, Mary plays in her backyard and has playful interactions with a grasshopper and a butterfly. One of her pursuits, the grasshopper finally eludes her, but her interest is redirected to a passing butterfly for a new learning experience.
