Madchester

1989 to 1991 saw a breakout in musical style in the UK and most focally, in Manchester. The combination of newly discovered rhythms, the free spirit of a new drug culture, and the swagger and style of northern youth colluded to lay waste to the traditions of the 80s. Instead, a host of new bands broke forward, centred loosely around The Hacienda nightclub, Factory Records, and Tony Wilson.
