Originally published in 1824, this book is a compilation of biographical sketches of prominent British novelists of the 18th century. It includes accounts of the lives and works of Samuel Johnson, Tobias Smollett, Henry Fielding, and many others. Scott, himself a novelist, provides insightful commentary and analysis of the literary scene of his time.
