The late Franco Maria Ricci had an almost cinematic career, starting as a race driverand geologist, moving on to corporate design and the publication of epic facsimile editions, and culminating in the debutof FMR, with the collaboration of Jorge Luis Borges and Italo Calvino. The magazine's launch in the United States washeralded by the distribution of 8 million copies, an inaugural ball in the main reading room of the New York PublicLibrary on Fifth Avenue, and a rapid climb to mass circulation (100,000 U.S. subscribers). Paused in 2009, themagazine was revived in 2022 and today its US, British, French, Spanish, and Italian editions combine to make it theworld's largest art magazine.
