In my 3rd month of high school, a detachment of Army soldiers came to town. They were recruiters. They looked soooo neat!!! They convinced me that the Army and travel was the greatest educator of all. Plus, they paid you the princely sum of $21 a month!
I joined and was sworn in on December 15, 1939, my 17th birthday, at Ft. Hayes, Columbus, Ohio.
That was the beginning of a six year odyssey that changed and guided my life forever.
