Om Born Torn
This book is Gilmore Girls meets The Hazel Wood in a fresh twist on a magical young adult adventure. Sixteen-year-old Kiara Noir, confined to a rural sacred reservation in Colorado, by her mother Willow, knew she and her mother were different. Kiara nor Willow were natives here, and Kiara often wondered if they were in hiding or possibly witches because she didn't know who her father was or of any extended family. Willow, earthy crunchy and single, made them celebrate earth day, birthdays, and half birthdays to respect death. The rituals and ceremonies were strange and Kiara didn't want to be part of them anymore. Kiara, a talented debater from her online schooling was ready to pitch to her mother the next adventure in her life she wanted to explore. Travel and attend a college in person and live on campus. Willow realizing what this life must feel like to Kiara, opened some freedom of not participating in their half birthday ritual, spiraling Kiara's mundane life into a thrilling and terrifying turn. Now, forced to leave the safety of their home in Colorado and travel to the secret land of Willows childhood.
It is in the homeland that Kiara's lifelong questions start to be answered, and her true identity unravels as she adapts to the foreign cultures and customs of the castle. She must choose who is friend and who is foe here, while forced to make the most important decision of who she will become as her future self, deciding her fate and perhaps the fate of many other. Will she return to the safety of the quiet life she has been trying to get away from or take her place among the ruling class she never knew existed.
