Om Answering the Call
This book describes Allen Wilson's World War II service. The ROTC course he took while attending college, Officers' Candidate School at Fort Benning, his assignments on the West Coast, and the 18 months he spent in Algeria, Italy, and Austria are all chronicled in detail. There is also a chapter that focuses on wife Barbara's life with their daughter Suzan while Allen was overseas. Photographs, maps and cartoons accompany the narrative.
Based primarily on letters Allen wrote between 1943 and 1945, military records and histories, and interviews with Barbara and Allen, this book provides an in-depth, personal account of the challenges and triumphs that occurred when a young soldier "answered the call."
