I have written this memoir of my children’s (Kelly’s and Scott’s) courageous wars against cancer , for all the countless people who love Scott and Kelly. They fought their wars so valiantly! Those of you who read this who have cancer or love people with cancer, may also shed tears as you recognize the suffering, the prayers for healing, the love, the desperation, as cancer sufferers literally disintegrate before our eyes and we, to some degree, disintegrate with them. I have written this memoir as a special tribute to my children; however, I am praying for all cancer warriors.

As an educator, I noticed that there was a shortage of books written about the different challenges that children face written for children. My hope in writing books such as this one, is that children would be given a voice to say, "Hey, that sounds like me, maybe I can get help!!" So many children struggle with challenges and do not know how to ask for help or feel hopeless or different because their friends do not have the same challenges.I want children to have a way to identify what they are struggling with so that they can ask for help and feel good about themselves for getting help. I see too many children who cannot speak for themselves or feel helpless to ask for assistance with whatever it is they are going through.I hope this book and the books I plan to write will do just that for our children. I hope that children will realize that they are not alone and that there is help and compassion for the obstacles they face.
