When we think about the birth of Christ, many things come, to mind but one of those many things is the wise men. These men were Persians. What motivated them to cross hundreds of miles of desert and follow a star that was leading them west to Israel, a Jewish nation under Roman rule? The star was unlike any to the stars in the heavens that they studied. They knew it was a special star, but why? Their king wanted to know if the star could be a warning of impending danger to the kingdom. Dyrus is a fifteen year shepherd boy who lives with his parents and grandparents in mountains of Persia during the time of Christ's birth. He wants to know about the things of the world more than the does about being a shepherd boy. Dyrus also saw the star one night while on a wolf hunt and was totally amazed what he saw. The king's wise men come to the mountains to better observe the and study the star. Dyrus and the wise men meet and Dyrur's life is forever changed. Dyrus becomes an apprentice to the wise men. Searching for answers to the many questions about the Star started a life time of adventures for Dyrus. It started first with just learning what all it took to be an apprentice to the wise men. This learning process allowed him to go with the wise men as they followed the star. The conclusion of the trip answered many questions, but in Dyrus' mind but there were still answers to be found. The questions stayed in the back of Dyrus' mind even as he grew up and became a wise man. Questions why was the baby they saw so special to have a star announce his birth? Who was he to be when he grew up? What did or would the Romans think or do? What would the King of Israel think or do? The answer to the questions lead Dyrus to travel back to Israel in search of a man doing miracles. His trip to Israel answered all of his questions he thought. After returning home he received some disturbing news from Israel that raised more difficult questions. Dyrus saw no way to find the answers to the new questions. His questions were brought up in a discussion that came at a later time and in an unexpected way. He accompanied his friend, the captain of the king's guard and his men in the search for Roman spies the western desert of the kingdom. They found no spies, but they found an intriguing man with a strange name. In discussions with this man, Dyrus' questions were brought up. The man answered Dyrus in a strange way and not as he expected. Did these answers provide Dyrus with his "FINAL ANSWER"? ABOUT THE AUTHOR He is an aerospace engineer who retired after thirty-seven-years of working in the experimental aerodynamics field of designing and testing wind tunnel models. He has tested many well known aircraft configurations and their variations, B-58, F-111, F-16, F-22, and F-35 as well as many advanced study configurations that were never built. He is an avid hunter. He has written many technical reports. For fun, he has written stories about some of his better hunts. Two were published in hunting magazines. We are no longer under law, but under grace, God's unmerited favor in Christ. God sent His Son, Jesus, to be our Substitute and Deliverer from condemnation. Jesus, the "Lamb of God", took upon Himself all God's wrath against sin once and for all time. His purpose was "that through death He might destroy him who HAD the power of death, that is the devil, and (Catch this now!) deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage" (Heb. 2:14-15). How could you be delivered from the fear of death IF you could lose your salvation? You could never be free of that bondage. But you ARE free, beloved. If you have received Jesus by faith in His shed blood on your behalf, you are totally forgiven, forever and unconditionally! The Judge Himself, your heavenly Father, has justly declared you righteous, a "new creation in Christ Jesus". Give me the chance to convince you that you cannot lose the gift of God. Jesus is the Guarantee! Enter into that promised rest God promises all who are His. We received salvation by God's grace. We didn't earn it. We don't deserve it. We do not have to struggle to maintain it. No! Jesus, our Good Shepherd, keeps His sheep safe and secure. We are kept, protected, and deeply loved because we are IN Christ. There is no merit involved. It is "by grace through faith"!
God has made a beautiful world with a wonderful plan for each of us. It is my hope that the stories and poems written in this book can do all the things they have been planned to do. May they minister the Love of God and a drawing by the Holy Spirit to come closer to the Lord Jesus Christ and to know him more intimately. Each poem has been written out of a trial or a growing process God has brought me through. Or just from being in his presence in the garden of my heart where unspeakable joy flows forth from God. Ndungu Stephen Gitonga (Rev.) Born in 1975 in Laikipia, Kenya. Completed priestly studies in St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Nairobi, Kenya. He also completed studies in retreat guidance in Mwangaza Retreat Centre in Nairobi, under the Jesuits. He holds BA, in Philosophy and Theology from Urbaniana University, Rome and MS. Pastoral Care and Counseling (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) from Neumann University, Aston, Pennsylvania, USA. He is currently pursuing Masters Organizational and Strategic Leadership Planning in Neumann University with special focus on Youth leadership and mentorship for individual, community and national building. Rev. Stephen is a Priest of Nyeri Archdiocese, Kenya and has discharged his ministry in offices, parishes, hospitals, schools, youth, and vocations.
This is my story of our maiden voyage sailing the Draft Horse, a 25' sailboat from St. Paul Minnesota to the Bahamas, with my husband, Larry, and our 15 year old daughter, Janel. Many times I saw and felt God's presence and hand of protection on us. Though trying at times, God gave me hope and renewed my faith. I whole heartedly put my trust in Him. This is a true account of our 6 month adventure dealing with locks, fog, storms, sea sickness, a hyped-up husband, disgruntled teenage daughter and surviving a raging storm in the Bahamas. Our daughter, Janel, gave this account of her experiences while in the midst of the raging storm. "Undoubtedly, the accumulation of experiences aboard Draft Horse positively influenced and shaped my life. Even though when stranded on a deserted island in the Bahamas it was not glamorous nor furnished with Gilligan's hammock or Ginger's sequenced gowns hanging in the closet of the abandoned house. This is what I experienced- thirst, rats, and a raging storm, that I'm thankful to have survived." This adventure was beyond my wildest dreams with experiences and memories I cherish. I was raised in Villard, Minnesota, population 248. A quiet, rural farming community where tractors and cows were common and sailboats didn't exist. Our adventure of sailing down the Mississippi River, around the Florida Keys and over to the Bahamas, raised many eyebrows back home. I'm grateful to tell my story. This sailing adventure was a challenge but together, we accomplished our dream. I urge my readers to make their dreams become a reality. I now live in Florida with my husband, Larry. They share a common interest in space exploration and the love for God, family and friends, which is the focus of their adventures. But sometimes things can go wrong. Especially when two young boys are curious and keep making multiple trips to the moon and back. Their incredible journeys are filled with excitement and many strange, but wonderful, new experiences.
