"Iceman: Ex-Con Speaks to Youths" is an autobiography written to deter teenagers and young adults from a lifestyle of drugs, gangs, violence, and criminal activities. It focuses youth toward education, rewarding relationships with parents, making wise decisions, and the consequences of going down the wrong path.It consists of valid information as to how youths can avoid the traps that lurk in the shadows of society. This book speaks boldly about the rights of victims and the fate of criminals, and the uncensored graphic descriptions of life behind bars is expressed in detail. In today's society, far too many teenagers glorify themselves in violence and a renegade way of life, and far too many young people are filling up jails and prisons. This extraordinary book is designed to combat such negativity. It charts the life of a man, a man with excellent advice.Straightforward, no nonsense, thought provoking.

Stories, examples, parables, metaphors, and humor support the sixty three reflections on bibilical texts from the Revised Common Lectionary. The author uses a "theme approach," addressing issues and questions sometimes overlooked in preaching, balancing private, personal spirituality with the social and corporate.Open-minded and ecumenical in tone, ULU reflects the theology of one firmly planted in the Wesleyan tradition, where scripture, tradition, experience, and reason insist upon openness to the new things that God is doing, and where believers seek to work actively for the transformation of creation according to the values and the vision of the realm of God.Twenty original monochrome photos by the author are distributed between chapters.AUTHOR¿S INTRODUCTION"I¿m convinced that the Gospel enters our experience with the most sharpness and clarity at the points of the pain and passion of our life-encounters. As a comfortable middle-class, straight, white male American Christian, I¿ve had virtually everything to learn from the people to whom I¿ve been "sent." Experiences in the Philippines and Pacific Islands, those while working with the World Hunger Emphasis of The United Methodist Church, and while assigned to ecumenical organizations, have had profound impact upon my faith and my approach to Bible study and worship preparation. Serving as pastor of congregations that openly welcomed gay and lesbian persons into a full participation have extended this experience."I¿m also convinced that the Gospel most powerfully enters the experience of those to whom we¿ve been sent when it speaks practical hope to vulnerabilities and pain. At their best, and as they were intended to be, ministries of service are a vital, integral part of the task of evangelization, which not only involves preaching Good News, but BEING Good News. Preaching and "reflecting" are meaningless without serious engagement with real life!"The simplest of traditional cultures to which I was introduced have helped me in my spiritual journey. As a Filipino anthropologist friend said after spending some weeks with the so-called "Lost Tribe," the Tasaday, in South Cotabato, "We¿ll not realize how much we have to learn from them until we admit to what we ourselves have lost.""My friends in traditional/indigenous cultures have made me more sensitive to deeper meanings in stories and parables. Perhaps they¿re more aware than we so-called "educated folk" that this is how we transmit our culture and values. It¿s in the stories where we find the greatest richness of the Bible, in both the old and New Testaments. Jesus constantly taught through story, parable, and metaphor. Taking a shallow, literal approach to these causes us to miss the many layers of meanings and themes which the writers intended to be addressed. While stories may not prove something, they illustrate something, and they carry their own conviction. It¿s up to us to incorporate them into our insight and understanding."Hearing the stories of others has put me in closer touch with my own. May mine do the same for you!"

In 2005, I visited the Nairobi Animal Orphanage in Kenya and amongst the many caged animals was a lone African wild dog. All other animals were in pairs or three or more. I knew it was an endangered species, but I wondered if the minders couldn't get this pack animal a partner. Dogs need walks, but this animal was caged and alone. The orphanage was turning out to be a prison. The alternative, however, would be death at the hands of farmers, herders, and new occupants of the receding jungle. Indeed, large tracts of national packs have been hived off to make room for new human settlements. The last time I saw a wild dog in the wild was 1979, when we visited the National Park as school children. Even then, this animal was reviled by herders who accused it of frequent attacks on their herds. Given a voice, what would a wild dog say?

In the early pre-dawn on a day in May of 1963 as sunlight glimmered in the offing of Lake Michigan, Chicago awakened to the promise of a fine spring day. Jimmy Flores and Paddy O'Halloran, friends and scholarship track athletes, saw the first glimmers of a world beyond their college graduation, scheduled for later that morning on the Loyola campus several miles behind their rapid footsteps along the Lake Shore Trail. In the next ten years, a period beginning with Eugene 'Bull' Connor unleashing fire hoses and police dogs on demonstrators protesting segregation in Birmingham, Alabama, and ending with the resignation of Richard Nixon, Chicago and America went through enormous turmoil and profound changes. My novel, 'Footsteps at Dawn' interweaves the careers and fortunes of my two heroes during that period with those of Chicago, and by extension, our country. From the floor of the commodities exchange, to an interviewer's desk in a state employment office, to a classroom in an elementary school for immigrant children, to an alderman's seat in the City Council Chamber, to Michigan Avenue amidst violent clashes between police and thousands of anti-war demonstrators during the Democratic Presidential Convention of '68, they venture through their rapidly changing world with intelligence and humanity, experiencing both tragedy and joy as they seek a new dawn.

Born for Adversity examines the sometimes turbulent, often impassioned relationships between siblings. Well-known stories from the Bible and mythology are re-told throughout the book, interwoven with the tale of two brothers on their journey through life. Whether born into a family from ancient times or in modern culture, brothers and sisters have faced similar challenges throughout the millennia-jealousy, control, judgment, protection, forgiveness, and love-all common facets in the labyrinth of sibling relationships, the outcomes ever hinging upon choices of the mind and heart. Born for Adversity follows the lives of Jackson and Jesse McAlister. Raised in a Christian, blue-collar family in the mid-twentieth century, Jackson and Jesse struggle to find their way into adulthood. Their disparate natures clash when their decisions lead to trouble on both sides. Then, a dark secret emerges to nearly destroy all hope, and a young woman tugs at both their hearts, forcing them to face each other and their true feelings. Discover the possibilities borne of unconditional love and the disasters wrought from envy and hatred. Whether in ages past or present day, true forgiveness blazes a trail through the tangles of sibling rivalry, ending in ties that bind forever strong and true.

Economic conditions have vital roles to play in people's experience and perceptions of a place while socioeconomic status equally affects almost all aspects of human life, including security of lives and property. The book:"Vision 20: 2020 and the menace of vandalism" is a policy guide and direction signaling material. It pictures this global projection which the late President Umar Musa Yar'adua highlighted in his agenda as a dream towards attaining the nation's golden age. The book was equally written to propel the Nigerian government as well as her economic handlers to work towards the nation's emergence as one of the 20 most economically viable nations of the World. Clearly, the book centers around the dream of development for the Nigerian economy. It analyzes the variables for and, the debacles against the attainment of the stated economic vision. More precisely, the book was written to re-echo the prophesy of economic prosperity for Nigeria as predicted by the World Bank when the country showed signs of possibilities around mid 2000s. The administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo (rtd) had successfully paid off one of the economic ravaging loans to Paris Club, the creditor. This accomplishment repositioned Nigeria for greatness with a vision to rank among the top 20 economies around the world in 2020. This tall expectation informed the need for holistic review of the nation's internal potentials and the threats of saboteur which range from growing insecurity to wanton vandalism of infrastructures, including crude-oil pipelines. Crude-oil accounts for approximately 65% of the nation's revenue. This reality directly ties the fate of the envisioned economic attainment to the effective protection of this sector. Fulfillment of responsibility becomes imperative for Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps in conquering the war of vandalism to set Nigeria on the path of fulfilling global economic prediction. The book advanced other measures to attaining economic stability in Nigeria. Well structured policies, strong political will and financial discipline were among other suggested measures.

This book provides numerous essays on prospects for light-speed travel and travel ever so slightly faster than light. These essays provide a mildly to moderately technical treatment of the subject. It is hoped that the reader will come away with a sense of the whimsical and wonderlust regarding the bold prospects of light-speed impulse travel and how any strict light-speed limits imposed by Nature works out for all the better.

As both make the climb to the summit, the Lords begin their pursuit. The Lords discover that they are not well suited for the climb or the cold, and their calls for reinforcements are met with confusion and catastrophe. Still, they too create two groups and each pursues the Warrior groups up the mountain. Halfway up, they decide to camp out and wait for the Warriors to run out of supplies and return to the ground and right into their hands. Though they believe they can wipe them out, the Lords instead wish to use the Rungans, to turn them against the Spears with false promises. Before these promises can be heard, however, the Warriors plan their victory, using their knowledge of the forest to their advantage, making weapons out of nature in an overwhelming defeat of the Lords.

Grandpa's Soup tells a story for the pleasure, information, and entertainment of the reader. It is a narrative of the author's memories of growing up in a tiny island village in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria in Africa. It was inspired by memories of his grandpa, who passed away while he was still very much in the formative years of his life. They are memories that he considers worth sharing because of the lasting impact they have had on his adult life. The author hopes that the book affords the reader a peek into Kalabari-Ijaw ethnography and culture while not losing its very essence, which is motivational-a motivation engendered by the seemingly innocuous acts of a grandfather that roundly impacted the life of his grandson. Also, he attempted to present the book in a simple prose format for easy readability by a wide range of audiences across cultures and demographics.
