This is a humorous manuscript on the subject of Australian slangs, cultural diversity, and societal make-up. It is an attempt to capture what makes us unique as a nation. The work is well-researched, properly referenced, engaging and humorous. It is also somewhat autobiographical chronicling the author¿s journey to become an Aussie. This work is unique in that it presents the material as follows: 1. Four sets of 50 multiple choice questions (200 in total), testing knowledge of a slang word, Australianism, or basic knowledge of the country. The material is new and amusing. The replies are cleverly chosen to frustrate guess-work. 2. A scoring sheet. 3. A section where the questions are individually dissected. The correct answer given, and the Australianism upon which it was based explained. 4. A glossary that is specific to this work and thus not overly laborious.

Why would Lauren Worthington, reporter for the Cedar Creek Chronicle, trade romance, a good job and a bright future for controversy and peril? The year is 1983, and the western South Carolina village of Cedar Creek with its racially embittered past and depressed economy has begun to change, but far too slowly for Lauren. Her father, whose mansion was built more than a century before on the backs of slaves, plans to construct a shopping mall just off the nearby interstate. Her boyfriend, a black attorney and a member of the village board, is the project's staunchest opponent. And her boss, a savvy taskmaster who favors political pragmatism over ethical principles, is on her back. Determined to prove herself an objective journalist, Lauren takes a stand. Arson strikes her boyfriend's home. Compelling evidence points an incriminating finger at her father. But a shocking disclosure about her boyfriend's past, coupled with revelations he had been giving money to an Aryan separatist, spawns new suspicions. Accusations run wild. Threats abound. Tensions with both her father and boyfriend magnify until bizarre courtroom theater forces all concerned to reexamine not only their positions but also themselves.

Reading a translation of any book is just not the same as reading it in its original language and is adequately stated in the phrase "lost in the translation." Whenever a text is translated from one language to another it loses some of its flavor and substance. The problem is compounded by the fact that a language is tied to the culture that uses that language. When the text is read by a culture different from the one it is written in, it loses its cultural context. A Biblical example of this can be found in the Hebrew word tsur which is translated as a rock - "He only is my rock and my salvation, he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved" (Psalm 62:2, KJV). What is a rock and how does it apply to God? To us it may mean solid, heavy or hard but the cultural meaning of the word tsur is a high place in the rocks where one runs to for refuge and defense, a place of salvation. "The Living Words" is an in-depth study into the Ancient Hebrew vocabulary and culture of the Bible replacing the flavor and substance that has been removed from us.

Children whose dominant handedness is purposefully reversed may undergo profound alterations in their developing brains. Hidden Handedness tells this story from an autobiographical point of view. The story opens with the experiences of an adult who learns at age 41 that he belongs to a group of people whose handedness had been reversed. Such people are called "submergees" in the book. The surprising discovery initiates a return journey in which the submergee becomes an emergee: one who migrates back by reversing behaviors relating to handedness, experiencing an amazing rebirth of body and mind."Hidden Handedness" reviews supporting research, looks at biographies of famous submergees such as President Ronald Reagan, and uses stories to help complete the picture. Anyone who wishes to investigate the untold story of handedness reversals and returns would do well to begin with this book.Current research findings concerning plasticity in the adult brain, glia, mirror neurons and therapies such as Constraint Induced Therapy, provide growing support for the story told in "Hidden Handedness." This largely untouched terrain of the body and mind beckons to those who may be submergees and those who wish to know more about them.
