This book offers a current state of the art in analysis and modeling of creep phenomena with applications to the structural mechanics. It presents the some presentations from the IUTAM-Symposium series "Creep in Structures", which held in Magdeburg (Germany) in September 2023, and it discusses many advances and new results in the field. These are for example: interlinks of mechanics with materials science in multi-scale analysis of deformation and damage mechanisms over a wide range of stresses and temperature; development and analysis of new alloys for (ultra)high-temperature applications; formulation and calibration of advanced constitutive models of inelastic behavior under transient loading and temperature conditions; development of efficient procedures and machine learning techniques for identification of material parameters in advanced constitutive laws; introduction of gradient-enhanced and non-local theories to account for damage and fracture processes; and applicationof new experimental methods, such as digital image correlation, for the analysis of inelastic deformation under multi-axial stress state.

This book covers the most common neutron detectors used in neutron scattering facilities and all of those in use at Oak Ridge National Lab. It starts describing the facilities, instruments and the critical detector parameters needed by various instruments. Then the key components of the 3He-based linear position-sensitive detectors as well as on their electronics, which require particular attention to signal processing and noise reduction, are introduced. One chapter is dedicated to the 3He alternatives where scintillators play a critical role. It also covers emerging neutron detection technologies including semiconductors, vacuum-based devices and their associated readouts, which will be required in the future for high rate and high-resolution neutron detectors.The authors explain the logic behind the choice of materials as well as the various constraints that neutron detectors must respect to be useful. Some of these constraints, such as efficiency and gamma-ray sensitivity are common to all neutron counters while others, like timing resolution, dynamic range, and peak counting rate, depend on the applications.The book guides experts, the nuclear science community, and young scholars through the physical processes and the required electronics in a way that is accessible for those not professionally involved in designing detector¿s components and electronic circuits.

This book offers a systematic and multifaceted analysis of the Greens on the levels of political philosophy, political concepts, social movement, political parties, and political ideology. The originality of the book lies in the determination of the political philosophy of the Greens as left libertarianism. Such a determination of the Greens can already be found in the writings of Herbert Kitschelt, but while he only makes a cursory mention of it, this book offers a detailed elaboration of the points of contact between left-libertarianism and the Greens. The book also attempts to explain the acceptance of left-libertarianism by the Greens with social processes in Western Europe, the emergence of a new middle class and post-materialist values. At the same time, the book examines the relationship between the left-libertarian political philosophy of the Greens and the organizational structure of the Green parties, their relationship to the state, and to democracy.

This book in the advanced structured materials series provides first an introduction to the mircomechanics of fiber-reinforced laminae, which deals with the prediction of the macroscopic mechanical lamina properties based on the mechanical properties of the constituents, i.e., fibers and matrix. Composite materials, especially fiber-reinforced composites, are gaining increasing importance since they can overcome the limits of many structures based on classical metals. Particularly, the combination of a matrix with fibers provides far better properties than the constituents alone. Despite their importance, many engineering degree programs do not treat the mechanical behavior of this class of advanced structured materials in detail, at least on the bachelor¿s degree level. Thus, some engineers are not able to thoroughly apply and introduce these modern engineering materials in their design process. The second part of this book provides a systematic and thorough introduction to the classical laminate theory based on the theory for plane elasticity elements and classical (shear-rigid) plate elements. The focus is on unidirectional lamina which can be described based on orthotropic constitutive equations and their composition to layered laminates. In addition to the elastic behavior, failure is investigated based on the maximum stress, maximum strain, Tsai-Hill, and the Tsai-Wu criteria. The introduced classical laminate theory provides a simplified stress analysis, and a subsequent failure analysis, without the solution of the system of coupled differential equations for the unknown displacements in the three coordinate directions. The book concludes with a short introduction to a calculation program, the so-called Composite Laminate Analysis Tool (CLAT), which allows the application of the classical laminate based on a sophisticated Python script.

This book explores the latest advances in the field of building management. Several chapters use new technologies such as the BIM methodology for collecting life cycle information and managing the maintenance of existing buildings, sharing valid historical and architectural heritage data, energy analysis of building envelopes, and planning new buildings or sustainable building practices. This book concerns matrix and operator equations that are widely applied in various disciplines of science to formulate challenging problems and solve them in a faithful way. The main aim of this contributed book is to study several important matrix and operator equalities and equations in a systematic and self-contained fashion. Some powerful methods have been used to investigate some significant equations in functional analysis, operator theory, matrix analysis, and numerous subjects in the last decades.The book is divided into two parts: (I) Matrix Equations and (II) Operator Equations.In the first part, the state-of-the-art of systems of matrix equations is given and generalized inverses are used to find their solutions. The semi-tensor product of matrices is used to solve quaternion matrix equations. The contents of some chapters are related to the relationship between matrix inequalities, matrix means, numerical range, and matrix equations. In addition, quaternion algebras and their applications are employed in solving some famous matrix equations like Sylvester, Stein, and Lyapunov equations. A chapter devoted to studying Hermitian polynomial matrix equations, which frequently arise from linear-quadratic control problems. Moreover, some classical and recently discovered inequalities for matrix exponentials are reviewed.In the second part, the latest developments in solving several equations appearing in modern operator theory are demonstrated. These are of interest to a wide audience of pure and applied mathematicians. For example, the Daugavet equation in the linear and nonlinear setting, iterative processes and Volterra-Fredholm integral equations, semicircular elements induced by connected finite graphs, free probability, singular integral operators with shifts, and operator differential equations closely related to the properties of the coefficient operators in some equations are discussed.The chapters give acomprehensive account of their subjects.
