Originally published 1972.The Ship of Sulaiman is an account of a Persian embassy which went to Siam in the latter part of the seventeenth century. The work is a translation of a manuscript in the British Museum, and is an account put together by a scrfibe who accompanied the mission to Siam. The principal focus is on the community of resident Iranians and the important role, which, prior to the embassy's arrival, the Iranians had been playing in the trade and political affairs of Siam.

Based on the large corpora of journalistic English, this title examines dependency relations and related properties at both syntactic and discourse levels, seeking to unravel the language patterns of real-life usage.With a focus on rank-frequency distribution, the author investigates the distribution of linguistic properties/units from the perspectives of properties, motifs and sequencings. At the syntactic level, the book analyses the following three dimensions: various combinations of a complete dependency structure, valency and dependency distance. At the discourse level, it proves that the elements can also form dependency relations by exploring (1) the rank-frequency distribution of Rhetorical Structure Theory relations, their motifs, discourse valency and discourse dependency distance; (2) whether there is top-down organisation or an inverted pyramid structure at all the three discourse levels; and (3) whether discourse dependency distances and valencies are lawfully distributed, following the same distribution patterns as those at the syntactic level.This book will be of great value for scholars and students of quantitative linguistics and computational linguistics and its practical insights will also benefit professionals of language teaching and journalistic writing.

Based on an unusual source a retrospective survey of migration from 1900 to 1975 this book traces the history of internal and international labor migration in colonial and contemporary Burkina Faso, the West African coast, and other parts of Africa. Interviews with returned migrants elicited information about age, matrimonial status, motives for migrating, employment, destinations, residence, and motives for returning. The survey, which includes data on nearly one hundred thousand migrants and on 1.5 million instances of migration, offers a uniquely African perspective on migration in the region

Experimental Visualization in Architectural Design Media: How It Actually Works is a theoretical, practical, and interdisciplinary account of the tools used by architects and designers. Family in Children's and Young Adult Literature is a comprehensive study of the family in Anglophone children's and Young Adult literature from the early nineteenth century to the present day.

Using a critical lens derived from ecopsychology and its praxis, ecotherapy, this book explores the relationships Madeleine L'Engle develops for her characters in a selection of the novels from her three Time, Austin family, and O'Keefe family series as those relationships develop along a human-nonhuman kinship continuum. This is accomplished through an examination both of pairs of novels from the fantastic and the realistic series, and of single novels which stand out as slightly different from the most prominent genre in a given series. Thus, this examination also shows L'Engle's fluid movement along a fantasy-reality continuum and demonstrates the integration of the three series with each other. Importantly, through examining these relationships and this movement along continuums in these novels, the project demonstrates how ecopsychology and ecotherapy provide strong and important - and as-yet virtually unexplored - intersections with children's literature.

Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) was one of the major poets of the English Romantic period. This is the final volume of a six-volume edition of The Poems of Shelley, which aims to present all of Shelley's poems in chronological order and with full annotation. Date and circumstances of composition are provided for each poem and all manuscript and printed sources relevant to establishing an authoritative text are freshly examined and assessed. Headnotes and footnotes furnish the personal, literary, historical and scientific information necessary to an informed reading of Shelley's varied and allusive verse.Most of the poems in the present volume were composed between late January 1822 and Shelley's death on 8 July 1822. This book presents a new paradigm for attending to gender-based violence (GBV) social media discourse among marginalised Black women in South Africa.
