This book critically analyzes the Palestinian legal arguments against Israeli occupation and in favor of Palestinian statehood.For the past two decades, Palestinians have chosen to pursue their claims against the Israeli occupation through litigation at the international courts. It is therefore appropriate, the author contends, to analyze the merits of the Palestinian legal claims separately from their political claims. To do so, the book comprises five parts: Part I addresses the role of international law in the conflict, as well as Palestinian legal framing and lawfare. Part II recounts the relevant legal history, including the crucial legal implications of the Oslo Accords. Part III analyzes Palestinian legal claims regarding the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Part IV assesses the Palestinian legal case for statehood. Part V analyzes Palestinian legal claims regarding Jerusalem. Inspired by the "spatial turn", this volume links for the first time the study of diplomacy and spatiality in the premodern Islamicate world to understand practices and meanings ascribed to territory and realms.Debates on the nature of the sovereign state as a territorially defined political entity are closely linked to discussions of "modernity" and to the development of the field of international relations. While scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds have long questioned the existence of such a concept as a "territorial state," rarely have they ventured outside the European context. A closer look at the premodern Islamicate world, however, shows that "space" and "territoriality" highly mattered in the conception of interstate contacts and in the conduct and evolution of diplomacy. This book examines the impact of water-related subsidies on social, and distributive equity and environmental sustainability in groundwater access and regulation in India.This book argues that adopting a water justice framework is essential to ensure equitable and sustainable access to and regulation of groundwater by balancing anthropogenic and ecological water needs. The inherent inequity resulting from property rights-controlled groundwater access gets widened by the social, political, and economic factors determining the subsidy beneficiaries. Adopting a socio-legal approach, the book draws on two contrasting case studies in India: Kerala, a water-secure state, and Rajasthan, an arid state. Arguing for a shift to a new paradigm in water governance, it critically examines the feasibility of the public trust doctrine and rights of nature discourse to analyse the best suitable regulatory framework that can balance the human right to water and ecological sustainability in groundwater resources. It demonstrates the feasibility of adopting various environmental law principles that balance human rights to water and nature. It argues that the hitherto highlighted public trust doctrine cannot address these inequities due to its anthropogenic bias and property rights link. This book builds upon Louise Berman's late 20th century framing of life processes to inform school curriculum, by proposing a new curriculum project that extends and reframes Berman in and beyond schooling.Using the well-established curriculum theorizing method, currere, the author focuses on seven life processes, including knowing, loving, losing, growing, forgiving, relating, and hoping. Each of these is approached using currere-oriented, autobiographical fragments - stories from the author's own lived experiences in education and life - that illuminate the educational, curricular, and pedagogical possibilities of each of the seven processes using past, present, and future perspectives, which the author calls curriculum fragments. These curriculum fragments are tied to historical and contemporary curriculum theorizing and educational theory and practice, in order to suggest considerations for movement for the reader, scholar, educator, and leader. It ultimately asks whether humanity can create a joyful, beautiful, and just curriculum of life for each and every person through schooling and beyond, and consequently, a better world built on love.Focusing on real life experiences in school and life that have educational implications and that can inform the curriculum, the field of curriculum studies, and the act of curriculum theorizing, this book will appeal to curriculum scholars interested in using currere, understanding patterns of use, participating in the production of curriculum and educational knowledge in the field, and perceiving and using curriculum theorizing as an integral part of their daily work.

The politicizing of facts and factual claims has led some to abandon all talk of a meaningful distinction between a fact and a strongly held political commitment. This book argues that what we need, instead, are better accounts of facts and their relationship to explanation--ones that take seriously the dependence of facts on communities of practice and on consensus procedures of measurement, but do not abandon the epistemic distinctiveness of facts.Bringing clarity and order to the discussion by disclosing both key commonalities and significant differences between the ways we talk about facts and explanations, Patrick Thaddeus Jackson argues that although intrinsically more contestable than facts, social-scientific explanations can nonetheless be related to them in ways that allow researchers to evaluate explanations based on whether and to what extent they accord with the relevant facts in each situation.
