It's bad enough being jobless. Even worse, living in your car at the park. For months, Rusty would use the park city water for drinking and use the park bathroom and water to bathe. Rusty thought gaining employment would solve his problems. At least, he had income coming in, friends to talk to, and a house to live in. He never thought he would ever face any problem with his coworkers. A new employee is later hired. Mitzi pursues Rusty with unknown intentions. He tries to be a friend, gives her a morning greeting, yet she remains silent. All she does is stare at him. The situation goes from bad to worse after Mitzi goes into the men's room to stare at Rusty. He e-mails her after he gets home, questioning why? The police get involved, and Rusty's boss threatens to fire him if the police show up. The police talk to Rusty's witnesses about Mitzi's actions. Based on true events.

Brett is intense. Intense as a youth piecing together the world. Intense as an undersized point guard, middle child, and student. Intense as a professional poker player, manager, and problem solver. But most notably, intense as an unaware manic mind set free in the world. Crossover: A Look inside a Manic Mind is a personal memoir detailing the evolution of psychotic thoughts and how they influenced Brett's behavior during the three manic episodes that spanned the past decade of his life. Through basketball, poker, and work, Crossover offers a firsthand account of how the world looks and feels as a person with Bipolar I from childhood traits to adult expression. Brett's recall of these incidents is so detailed because he has a rare condition called hypermnesia, an unusually enhanced, vivid, and precise memory. His perspective sheds light on the progression of bipolar disorder and will enhance your ability to learn and empathize with those affected by the illness. Suicide among people with bipolar disorder is thirty times higher than the general population, yet the cause and prevention remain a mystery. Brett's story is educational and inspiring for anyone who suffers from or has been affected by mental illness. It is a must read for medical professionals, therapists, students, and teachers.

This book is a mix of stories about growing up in Detroit, going to Catholic school, and the Polish people in the fifties and sixties. The author tried his best to present everything in this book accurately despite not having a research staff like the famous writers have. He only had himself, his computer, his memory, a big pile of books, and note cards that he painstakingly used to put this story together. As a fireman, one of the things the author learned was that it takes three things to make a fire: air, fuel, and heat. Remove one, and you can't have a fire. He believes that it takes three things to make everything. Similar to making fire, there are three things that it took to make this book: the city of Detroit, the Catholic Church, and Polish ancestry. If you have one or two or maybe all three of these things, you may like this story. So if your mom wore a babushka, if nostrovia is your toast, if you had a last name that kids made fun of, or if you grew up reading your catechism while looking at church steeples and smokestacks, maybe this book is for you. Bob Dombrowski also wrote, 38 Years: A Detroit Firefighter's Story.

Unexpected twists and turns keep the reader guessing about what will happen next. Throughout this entertaining novel is weaved a one-way dialogue between a dying prisoner who tells repeatedly his sad story to a hungry jailhouse rat, which only lives to eat. The story moves from the death and destruction of one town to the amazing rebuilding of a new town by survivors who lived to tell the tale. The human foibles of many of the book's characters are displayed. Miracles make possible survival, love, and marriage, but evil lurks beneath the surface, and unforeseeable events determine the future of a people and their country. Heroes live and die by the hand of hidden forces beyond their control. The eyes of an innocent young man, offspring of a saintly mother who died giving birth to him, are opened to social injustices caused by an elitist power structure. The ambitions and interests of a few are pursued to the detriment of the majority. Fortunes are decided by a violent border dispute and a heated soccer match that leads to a brief war between two countries. The story begins with hopes created by salvation found in the protection of an old church and ends uncannily in the same church, where a handful of assorted protagonists find they have been given a new lease on life. Yet the question is left open as to which forces will ultimately rule: good or evil? No mention is made of the sacrifices necessary for good to triumph over evil. Will people be willing to work long and hard enough for the good of their country, or will they be guided by their own selfish interests and incapacity to understand what is really at stake? These questions and others are left to the reader to answer. Other questions remain unanswered. Will unscrupulous leaders succeed in manipulating people to support them? Is divine intervention for the good of the people possible? How many chances will good people be given to make the wrongs of society right? Will unanticipated events continue to govern the course taken by a people and their country? Which way will the wheel of time turn, and who will benefit? Nobody masters completely with certainty their destiny. Fate will be what it will be. Several readings of this book could yield some answers to these questions, but good answers to these eternal questions will continue to be beyond the grasp of mere mortals. In the end, it is up to each individual to decide whether or not their life made a positive difference that endures for generations. Or maybe this book is only an engrossing superficial story that has nothing to do with any of these heavy questions or any deeper meaning. Each reader will have to decide for themselves what this book is about.

Behind the Scenes is the sequel to The Real Antonette Come Forth book series. Behind the Scenes is just what the title means-behind all the frontage you've seen and read concerning her life. The process to her freedom was a journey in itself. Many dead-end roads she faced. The U-turns she had to make, the traffic signs pointing her in the right direction, speed signs changing her pace to victory, the different methods of transportation to her destiny, the one-way streets she took alone to recovery, stopping along the way for repairs by Jesus. Under construction the entire process by the Holy Spirit. All of her steps ordered by her Father Jehovah. Meeting many strangers, angels, tutors, teachers, and guides as she traveled this sometimes tedious and lonely road. Many do not enter signs on her road to obedience. No parking signs indicating this isn't a rest stop to keep moving. Even with all the winding roads, delays in her process, in Behind the Scenes, you will see how she reached her wealth in God, her prosperity in life, health in her body, and wholeness in her mind. "e;You are something for the Books. You had a rough life but look at you now. Beautiful, just Beautiful. You are a good person. I am honored to know you."e; --Joan Sherman, Kenner, Louisiana"e;Girl, OMG look at you. You look great considering all you have gone through. Like most kids, teachers asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. That question was hard to answer as a black girl growing up in Harlem in the 1950s. When I tried to look back beyond my grandmother to understand my family's past, there was an ugly stain on our history left by slavery and then just a dark blur. It was said we came from Africa. Where exactly? I didn't know. There was no connection. When I looked around me, I saw crime, violence, and drugs spreading malignity through the black community. Meanwhile, the old staples-faith and family values-were like walls slowly crumbling down. I glanced ahead, but it was hard to see past things modeled at home, wrong words said or negative messages telegraphed to me in books and media that poo-pooed my potential. They didn't bode well for my future. What was I to do? The only thing I could. I summoned whatever I had in me, used my ghetto beginnings to push against, and then propelled forward. I completed my education, developed a teaching career in the NYC public schools, and bought a house. I felt like I was finally "e;somebody."e; A health issue came along and gave me a one-two punch. I became unable to walk and speak. My sense of worth was immediately placed in jeopardy when I joined a new group of disadvantaged-the disabled. I had to climb back up to acceptance and respectability and achieve normalcy. I asked myself, could I find a voice and still make a difference? This book is how I answered that. It is a story about finding strength, hope, and a higher quality of life.

Mr. Sims needed someone to give him a second chance. This young Shih Tzu was headed for the pound and possible euthanizing when our paths crossed. I had just started my personal dog training business when we met. He was brought to me for obedience instruction, but after just a few lessons, he was abandoned on my doorstep. My book, Rescuing an Angel: Heel, Mr. Sims, Heal, is the story of our twelve-year relationship in which the roles of teacher and student constantly shifted. It shows the strong partnership we built with relationship-based dog training methods, competitive obedience, therapy dog work, and my education into canine physical issues, both obvious ones and very elusive ones. This story is a blend of dog training instruction, human-dog camaraderie, mystery, and humor and ends with the ultimate act of selfless love. Each chapter has information that is helpful to a dog owner, and it continues the thread of Mr. Sims's story. "e;Everyone has a story to tell about their pet, but Peg Lovelock's Rescuing an Angel: Heel, Mr. Sims, Heal is extraordinary. Peg brought me into the world of a handsome Shih Tzu, Mr. Sims. Mr. Sims brought me into the world of a compassionate dog trainer, Peg Lovelock. This is a beautiful story about the relationship between Peg and Mr. Sims, who she rescued and gave unconditional love and respect. As Peg trained Mr. Sims to become an outstanding competitor, and he won all kinds of titles and awards, Mr. Sims gave his love right back to Peg in appreciation for how much he was loved and how well he was cared for. I loved the way Peg started each chapter with a message and the way that she caught my attention with the phrase, peeling the onion. I loved the uncanny wit of this author. Rescuing an Angel: Heel, Mr. Sims, Heal will warm your heart as you feel the mutual bond between Peg and her dog, Mr. Sims, and the love and respect they had for each other. I loved reading Peg's book, Rescuing an Angel: Heel, Mr. Sims, Heal."e;Linda Caputo

J O Moshopeh Pratt, in his book, From the Valley to the Mountain, encourages and motivates his young friends who might be labeled as drop-outs to prove that they are not drop-outs. Probably, they might be slow or late developers; or most probably, they might not have had people who were capable to discern that they had potentials in them that needs to be developed. Parents who have children who are slow in their development process are also encouraged to read this book in order to help their children in the development process rather than push them too fast. He discovered that he was in the valley and that was not the place he wanted to be. He took steps to travel from the valley up to the mountain. He might not have reached the apex of the mountain due to health conditions, but at least he is somewhere up there. He has come to realize that there will always be valleys in our lives. No matter what situation you might be in right now, he wants to assure you that armed with his testimony, God can still make all things work together for your good. God gave him the strength, courage, power and divine right to change the course of his life to the right direction, which leads to the mountain. He climbs! So must you. If he was able to do it, you too can do it. Stay blessed!

Inspired by Walden and by the nature writings of Henry David Thoreau, John Burroughs, and John Muir, and influenced by the poetry of William Wordsworth, William Cullen Bryant, and other Romantic poets, Bernard Charles Barnick sought to write about nature with feeling and with imagination. In a book designed to make one feel at home in nature, Mr. Barnick shares many of his own observations of birds and other wildlife dating back to his childhood, proceeding through his numerous outdoor excursions in the Wyoming Valley of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and including many of his travels throughout the state. He has combined his love of birds with a love of nature, astronomy, literature, and history to form a uniquely poetic or Romantic view of "e;Penn's Woods"e;-a state that is rich both in natural history and in human history.
