She was alone and orphaned as she moved her eyes to the afternoon sky that was being suffocated like prey to a serpent. All she could hear was the trampling of horses and the screaming of men, women, and children. The title of this book, Climbing Out of a Joseph's Hole, was given to me by God in the early stages of my divorce. God assured me at that time that he would bring me out better, wiser, and stronger than I could ever imagine. I even wrote down the date at that time with a written vision saying, "e;My family is now broken up, my car has been reposed, and my house is in foreclosure. But by the time I would have finished writing this book, God would have restored everything that I have lost and blessed me with more."e;Well, here I am now over twenty years later with over twice as much as I had before. So God wants me to tell those who are going through a divorce that they can recover from divorce and come out more powerful, more experienced, and wiser than they ever could ever imagine themselves to be. And the most important of all is that they can have a closer and more intimate relationship with the Almighty God.

As I progressed through my decades of teaching, coaching and counseling, I remembered many successes and many failures on the part of myself, my colleagues. Many days we would drive home thinking that we should have done something differently to turn around a child, stop a fight, follow up with a conference with counselors, parents, or administrators. Those are learning experiences that help even the best of us.These are children. They are not plants. We just don't walk up to them with a watering can, give them a little water, and expect a well-behaved, motivated individual to grow and develop in that chair. They are human. Their intellectual levels are different. They may come from broken homes. They may be hungry and have all the other influences on their lives. We can't forget that. Yet as I pass two other high schools on the way to work, everything on the outside appears orderly. Students file through the doors and get to their classes. I wonder if these schools have the same knuckleheads, drug dealers, troublemakers that my school does--and I know that they do. I want to take you to a year in my teaching past that was particularly unique. Mind you, a vast majority of the students followed the rules, got to class on time, did their homework, etc. Most teachers also did the right things. But from time to time, the wrong mix of students and the wrong mix of teachers have educators questioning their career choice. There are students that economically have more than others. Drugs from one group to another is increasing. Drinking is rampant, and some teachers need to brush up on their professionalism. Parents too have found the need for improvement.

Duffers need a different set of mental game strategies than professionals and low-handicappers, but most golf psychology books are oriented to golf pros and scratch golfers because those are the people who pay for sports psychologists' advice. Some even say that recreational golfers don't need mental game strategies, just more lessons. Recreational golfers can benefit greatly from an improved mental game if the strategies are tailored to their needs. Duffers want to optimize their performance, but they also just want to have an enjoyable round, even when their game is less than optimal. "e;Now That Shot Sucked!: Golf's Mental Game for Duffers"e; is written by a psychologist and recreational golfer for recreational golfers to improve their mental game, play better, and enjoy the game more.

This is the explosive account of why this happened and how closely entwined we are with what we term as visitors. It turns out they are not guests at all.

Think how often you have heard these questions and negative comments:I really have doubts that there is any God at all.Is going to church every week really necessary? Maybe just going on Easter and Christmas are good enough.Prayers seem unanswered, useless, and a waste of time. Are there really miracles--or can they usually be explained when thoroughly investigated? Why do we still talk about the Shroud of Turin when carbon-14 testing proved it was a fake?Angels and heaven are just feel-good fantasies to keep us from dreading death, right?Confession just seems like a way that Catholics can wipe the slate clean so they can go out and sin again.Adoration is a waste of time just sitting there in church doing nothing for an hour. What's the point?John Carpenter returns with his fourth book to address these doubts and misinformed ideas in a dynamic and educational manner. Utilizing defiant dialogues between an informed teacher and doubting students creates a lively debate that teaches truth and brings forth facts rather than opinions. Responses to the misinformed students come from medical, scientific, professionally investigated, and well-documented events. So if you have had any of these doubts or beliefs, you need to join the classroom and follow along in these enlightening debates! The actual truth may surprise you! What you learn might brighten your own spiritual path.
