This is a story depicting the author''s early life growing up in third world country Guyana, South America. The author reflects on her family''s origin and her adolescent years spent in Bengal and Plantation Highbury. She writes about her travel, studying and working in various countries and how she was able to cope with the adversity, and diversity of life. Throughout the book the author writes about the different places she called home and how it impacted her life. Her stories cover four and a half decades living in western societies and how she was able to hold on to hope during the days of despair. It seems our life is just a shadow that does not linger forever and it''s just a story.

Joseph S Vergilis ( И о с и ф Семёнович Вергилис) was born in Odessa, Ukraine, in August, 1934 to an ordinary family.In October, 1941, Odessa was occupied by the German-Romanian forces. As a Jew, Joseph and his family were sent to jail, then the ghetto, and finally to concentration camps. He lost many relatives including his youngest brother in these ordeals. In March, 1944, they were liberated by the Soviet Army and he returned to Odessa with his parents and younger brother. In 1958, Joseph graduated from Odessa Polytechnic University and worked as an Engineer-Designer at different design companies. In 1973, he got his PhD from R&D Institute in Moscow and continued to work at that Institute until immigrating to the United States in 1987.Upon his arrival to the United States, Joseph began working as a Math teacher in public schools and then later as a college professor until he retired in 2005. He was published in Who''s Who in the World in the Millennium 2000 edition.Mr. Vergilis lives in New York and has 6 grandchildren.

After 1939, Romania was subjected to Fascism against her will, and after 1945, the country came under Communist rule. All of us were reduced to poverty. I have witnessed how the Communist regime marginalized people and suppressed individual liberty, private initiative, lack of opportunities, and hope. I used the course of my life and decided to write its story for the purpose of showing others what an unsuccessful, socialist, Marxist government means. When it came to power, the State seized the fruits and the bounty it found, however, without producing anything on its own, except thousands of deaths and political prisoners. This is my story under a Communist regime when I lost my liberty.

The Deondrens long term goals involved Thaddeous being unbeatable in the court room as they sought a home on earth. The Deondren Gene remains a mystery until the end.
