  • - Unfiltered Memoirs to the American Public from the Minds of Black Men
    av Shonda Kay White
    235,-

Do you ever wonder about the hearts and souls of the men who make up our society? Have you ever been tempted to ask them about their life realities and the secrets that shape their identities today? Men around the world have different stories to tell. Some stories are tragic and others are full drama and maybe enduring love. Whatever the case may be, each one's narrative is unique and important, not one story is greater than the next. This is the cornerstone of our society, the foundation by which our nation stands. But for black men in America, this foundation has appeared faulty and unjust. There has been a Great Divide that now beckons a bridge of togetherness. What if men could live peaceably without discounting one another, no matter their race, culture, social or economic status? In this historical documentary, you will travel in time from the 1920's to the year 2019. You will discover what it feels like to be a black man in American society, each generation plowing straight ahead and never giving up on a land that has promised liberty and justice for all. The men in this book are living the lives of modern day pioneers. You will get to know them on a personally level and quickly understand why the process of plowing should never be minimized. It is what sustains the hope of a grand harvest. This hope requires extreme hard work, steadfastness, and unwavering faith. A faith that invites the unity of all people. There is a hope of not only creating a positive environment for a dialogue concerning the challenges of unity, but the importance of implementing a "Call to Action" by stepping back into time and identifying the deadly root, then cutting it off once and for all. Healing a nation begins with acknowledgement, repentance and forgiveness. The Understatement of Plowing is raw and organic. It will give you a close look inside the minds of four black men. You will hear the whispers of their hearts speak, "We just want to be valued as MEN, period." And with that, we trust that hope will not disappoint. I implore you to receive what you will and find a way to not only understand their perspectives, but be compelled to join them on a quest to walk out God's original plan for true diversity and unity in America.

  • - A breakdown of how to flip houses for wealth building
    av Damon Oubre
    285,-

Having grown up in a small town of five to six thousand residents, I totally appreciate life's simplicities. This work was created to simplify what most people would complicate: a house renovation with the goal of flipping. To be honest, real estate is a very complicated field with multiple sub-industries that do not necessarily correlate. Yet the home renovation and house flipping industry has, in recent times, gotten the general population excited about real estate investing. I like to call it the rebranding of an industry. House flipping has a silver lining so rarely mentioned that many active flippers do not fully understand the advantages until putting in several years of work. This is because the benefits of flipping are almost always seen as huge profit margins. Big profits are absolutely obtainable, but they are actually not the best benefit nor reason to start a house flipping business. The key to expanding any business is leverage. Flipping homes consistently helps you gain experience. That experience can then be used as a bargaining tool with lending institutions to allow you to leverage, or get financing, for larger and larger sums of money. Going into house flipping to make vast profits is not a strategy that fits the business model of 2020 and beyond. While liquidity (cash on hand) expedites one's ability to acquire properties, the access to leverage allows one to buy larger, more valuable and usually more profitable assets. For example, if you could put up $100,000 of your cash and gain control of $1 million worth of properties to renovate, you could end up with a much bigger check to deposit. The goal of any business is to first understand its industry and then use that knowledge to create a system of processes. If the blood of a business is money, the heart of a business is its systems. One cannot function properly without the other. In the following pages, I will teach you a method for flipping houses that will simplify the way you think about this industry. I will also teach you system design techniques that will place you years ahead of most of your competition. This short book is designed to obliterate your fears and misconceptions of the house-flipping process. It is also a blueprint for checks and balances that you can even use to flip remotely. Thank you for allowing me to share this information with you. This guide is the first of many to come.

  • - What if you could go back in time to tweak a few things in your life. Be careful what you wish for.
    av D E Pruitt
    265,-

"This story is an exciting, fresh twist on the time travel genre." Remember the time, after a particular encounter, you said to yourself, "Well, that could have gone better." Or the moment you did something, or did nothing, that you instantly regretted. And in the back of your mind, you desperately wished you had a "do-over." In the novel, Do-Overs, Jake Patterson, a 72-year-old retiree, discovers that he can travel back through his own timeline and actually change those failed opportunities that he, like you, experienced in his life. And, while those second chances are not history-changing and don't alter any outcomes, Jake feels a little better about himself. They are exhilarating experiences, until he's pushed to uncover the answer to an awful question that's been haunting him for nearly 50 years. Finding that answer forces him to "do over" one hellish night as a soldier in the Central Highlands of Vietnam as a 23-year-old. When he makes a spur-of-the-moment decision that saves a friend, he begins to understand, to his horror, that when you mess with time for any reason-no matter how innocent or well-intended-sooner or later, she's going to seriously mess with you. "A stirring ride through a violent war experience that catapults the reader onto the floor of the real (and imagined) chaos that was the 1976 Republican Convention."

Is there a truly low-cost way to get into orbit that is being overlooked; and is there any real substance to the claims of UFOs? In our own time, these two topics are becoming an ever-larger part of the national dialog. This novel explores how both of these intertwined possibilities may be moving from fiction to fact. Hans-Peter, the novel's namesake, has spent his considerable career looking for that truly low-cost way into orbit. From an abandoned Air Force Base now called Norton Field, he has focused on tri-propellant rocket engines. His work was generally scoffed as science fiction, but back in the late 60s the tri-propellants demonstrated the highest performance ever achieved by chemical rocket engines. His work began where the others left off.Ruthiebelle, an old college acquaintance and now the science editor of the largest newspaper in L.A., is one of the few people who remember Hans-Peter's interest in Low Earth Orbit. She is also discreet enough that "Black World" whistleblowers are willing to give her their best information. She knows things most insiders don't and has developed her own agenda. When she learns that Hans-Peter's titanium metals factory has rolled out a new hypersonic airplane, she decides to renew her acquaintance. She knows from anonymous sources that at extreme altitudes and hypersonic speeds there's more up there than thin air. On the pretext of reporting his experimental flights, she hopes to achieve her own goals. She manages to secure a dinner invitation and then over the next several weeks, as they renew their friendship, they unexpectedly fall into an astonishing secret.

Life is full of both good and bad choices. Regardless of the type of choices we make, there will always be consequences following them. If you sow to the flesh you will reap from the flesh, bringing on destruction. However, if you sow to the Spirit you will reap that which is of the Spirit, which leads to us reaping life everlasting. Blessings and prosperity follow behind good and wise choices. Curses, destruction, and bad consequences follow behind poor and unwise decisions. A renewed mind in Jesus Christ longs to follow the ways of God, but a mind stuck on flesh tends to seek after the things of the flesh! The way we think, and our level of commitment to God determines the choices we will make in life. When making choices, follow the heart of God, and you will never have to regret the outcome of your choices!

What chance does the son of Greek immigrants in St. Louis have at the end of a Depression and at the beginning of a war? Thrown into World War II with a high school education and not much life experience Michel Poulos is among the troops that go ashore at Utah Beach and fight their way across France to Germany. En route Michal is awakened to life, love, and the realities of war, and he emerges after two years in Europe with an awakened awareness of the economic realities of life in the Twentieth Century. Poulos can sink or swim. He is carried along by a tide like the world has never seen before. Six million service men and women left our shores to fight in the European and Pacific Theatres. Many had never been one hundred miles from home, but they returned determined to change the world. Michael Poulos was swept along with their enthusiasm, hunger and ingenuity into a developing economy, inquisitive scientific quest, and a thirst to do more, make more, improve on old ways and question the status quo. He elected not to be a bystander, but rather, to jump headlong into manufacturing, and success was soon to follow. What Poulos learned in his two years in Europe during World War II marked him for life. There were good and bad lessons, some of which he couldn't help; some he could not forget, but all were a part of the teaching moment of a man who started with little but who proved to be a fast study to the lessons of war.The lessons were not all economic. Some were about love and relationships. The loss of a wife from the ravages of cancer; the love of his sons, and a haunting fling with a French girl in 1944 all propel him toward the century's end sometimes excited, sometimes depressed, but always intrigued with the situation with which .he finds himself. As readers we are swept along from the loft of a French barn to the canyons of Wall Street, and from the life of a grease monkey living under an army truck in a muddy field in Normandie to the touchdown of his private jet at Paris' Orly Field, Michael Poulos was a poster child for America's Greatest Generation.

Sometimes mystical, sometimes gut-wrenching, as if a mélange of cinéma vérité had been superimposed on a background of gritty photorealism when she looked back on those scenes. This story is about Sarah living in Northern California over many decades. She reveals through the angels who watched over her and through the mirroring of movies she watched as a child in St. Helena seeing her life as a montage of miscellaneous film loops. This was especially true when growing up in Oakland during the black and white fifties into the Wizard of Oz technicolor sixties. Sarah tells her life story and that of her family and the people who come across her path through an honest and caring heart. She finds beauty and meaning arising from dissonant life experiences in the natural world of Northern California and in the deep recesses of her imagination. It seems she lived many lifetimes in one, but Sarah always knew her core self, her main rhythm and where to come back home. She sees herself as a casual mystic, an imperfect, sensual seeker of God. During the present decade, Sarah reluctantly returns to the Lost Coast where her son, Noah, and his partner, Heidi, are grieving over the loss of their young daughter who died unexpectedly. Sarah meets Michael there by chance and while uncovering who they may be for one another they become unwittingly over shadowed by Shasta. A Native American man who insists that the land where Michael has built his home and where he grows his cash crop, must be returned to his ancestors. A conflict of wishes, culture, and humanity makes this story resonant with depth, and through the interweaving of the past with the present.Roberta was living in Oakland when she married young and had four children by the time she was twenty-four. She enjoyed, in her earlier life, making theater productions with elementary and middle school aged children. Especially at Canyon Elementary School in Canyon, Whitethorn Elementary School in Whitethorn and Quaker First Day School in Berkeley, California. Some of the plays the children performed were inspired from Pomo and Maidu Indian myths. Pacifica KPFA Radio Journalist Vic Bedoian, and Roberta produced a series of Pomo Indian Oral Histories which were made into a series of radio programs titled: "These Things That Cannot Be Replaced." She published a portion of an interview aired with Kashaya Pomo Shaman Bernice Torres in "News From Native California" by Heyday Press publisher, Malcolm Margolin. Bernice was the daughter of historically well-known, Kashaya Pomo Shaman Essie Parrish. Essie was a Prophet and a Dreamer. The aired recording of Bernice includes her singing a spontaneous song for healing the nation as learned from her mother, as well as how she was identified as "one of them," as a child.

They stepped out onto the sidewalk, the man turned left, and the woman turned right. They each calmly walked three blocks and watched as two, and then three more, police cruisers screeched to a halt with lights flashing and sirens screaming. • - Birds, Beauty and Meditations in the Neotropics
    av Nic Korte
    249

Shouldn't we be living in the United States of Colibria? What is a puffbird? How do cold refried beans on crackers comprise a fantasy lunch? Why are 15 rabies shots in the stomach, 35 years ago, of value today? How can pollution from the exploitation of oil and gas reserves be no one's fault? How do you find a coherent philosophy of life consistent with your values and experience? These are among the themes examined by Nic Korte in this sojourn into a pristine rainforest and into a thoughtful mind. Korte intertwines his personal passions with rare experiences in one of the few remaining truly remote locations in Central America. During the first day, spent in the urban jungle, Korte sets the stage. He considers why Costa Rica's geography, once considered a detriment, resulted in the most favored country in Central America. He relates this tiny country's mostly peaceful history including the story of the backwards fort that collects bullets, and of one young man's selfless martyrdom that was instrumental in driving out North Americans who wanted to conquer, rule, and establish slavery. He also observes that Costa Rica is urbanizing too much and too quickly, overpowering some of the world's most progressive environmental laws.Once in the rainforest, Korte follows the lead of the great ornithologist and truth-seeker, Alexander Skutch; one of the most careful observers of wildlife and of humanity the world has seen. Korte highlights, not Skutch's bird study, but his painstaking evaluation of the world's religions. Skutch concluded that the goal of every human should be to achieve harmony by living a life of appreciation and cooperation. Lovely as this philosophy sounds, Skutch saw the world with equanimity as he wrote: "The blue threads of happiness and the red strands of pain are so tightly interwoven in life's fabric that...not even the wisest and the best of us succeed in disentangling them." Korte describes his personal quest to be as equanimous as Skutch while struggling for meaning and happiness. He applies mature perception and evaluation to childhood memories, such as a Christmas Eve spoiled by family mental illness. He battles his introspection as it contends with his twin desires in the rainforest; to notice everything and to find seldom-seen species such as Thicket and Black-crowned Antpittas. Although year-around residents in well-traveled and intensely birded Costa Rica, these are only glimpsed a few times each year, if at all. Readers participate in the thrill of his hunt for the rare birds and experience exultation comparable to watching a favorite team win a championship. Simultaneously, Korte reflects on how fleeting are feelings of success and whether our planet will be capable of providing the same experiences to future generations. The natural journey goes beyond birds as we are awakened with blood drawn by the sharp teeth of a jungle mammal. And, what of a strange, purple worm-like amphibian that lives mostly underground yet bears live young, or a coal-black frog with a snout so narrow, one might think it can hardly eat at all? Tamanduas, curassows, nightingale wrens, a friendly tapir and the deadly fer-de-lance all appear in this engaging book. In the closing chapter Korte speaks of death and how curiosity drives his will to live. He summarizes his life beautifully by concluding with a nod to Darwin: "I have recognized and reveled deeply in the presence of unimaginable beauty. I've felt the warmest and truest of emotions, especially the feeling of love. There has been much grandeur, and there is much grandeur yet. I don't want to leave."

Are you looking for a book that will encourage, equip, challenge, and inspire you to live a more fruitful Christian life? If you haven't noticed, the world desperately needs YOU to be an effective servant of the Lord. And you absolutely can be, even if you have failed or doubted yourself in the past. The author, James Scott, wants you to know that you do not have to be a mega-church pastor, seminary graduate, or famous author to faithfully get the job done for God and help advance the Kingdom of Christ right where God has planted you. This unique book, "from RANGE RIDIN' to SOUL SEEKIN, '" showcases how a normal, everyday cowboy was called by God to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. As the title suggests, James wasn't born to any sort of prominent position in society. He was busy riding fences, roping cows, and living the "romantic," but mundane life of a cowboy in Wyoming and Montana. James got saved by God's grace, just like anyone else (details provided). But then James was set in motion by God in unimaginable ways. In this book, you will get a first-hand account of how God's call came into James' life, and how best to respond when God calls YOU to serve Him as well. Through trial and error, guidance from God, help from a mentor or two, and plenty of Bible doing (different from mere Bible "study"), James has mastered the art of loving and reaching people for Christ. He addresses many of the big questions in life, such as: calling, purpose, mission, and Kingdom. But he also provides pinpoint, incredibly practical advice on evangelism and discipleship. So many other books on the topic just provide generic, one-size-fits-all treatment of the Great Commission. James, in contrast, gives separate and detailed instructions on how best to witness to your family, friends, casual acquaintances, and then total strangers. James provides many stories, all completely true and unembellished, about his experiences in the trenches

In doing so, you will have the opportunity to unlock your fullest potential in every aspect of your life.In my travels to various schools around the country as a motivational speaker, I constantly encounter young athletes who become their own worst enemies in their pursuit of success. However, the reality is that only 2% of all high school football players actually make it to the NFL, and many football standouts are prepared for neither the academics of college nor for life once their football careers come to an end.If you utilize the tools provided to you within the pages of this book, you can be confident that you will be able to successfully navigate the waters of being a college football player and overcome any pitfalls that commonly hold student-athletes back from achieving their goals. Dr. Isom is a living testimony of the ups and downs that can occur as a result of your decisions both in the classroom and on the football field.
