  • - Twenty Decades Seen Through the Old and New Testament
    av Francis J Mangan
    549

These biblical stories are quotes from the Old and New Testament placed into categories consistent with the twenty decades of the rosary. The rosary relates stories of the life of Jesus. Quoted verses are used to tell those stories. The authors are those who wrote the Old and New Testament. This writer serves as gather of verse consistent with the categories presented by the rosary. Each decade is presented from the Joyful Mysteries, to the Luminous, the Sorrowful, then the Glorious Mysteries. The effort here is to have equal parts of both the Old and New Testament. There is no theology presented. All is ecumenical in presentation.

THE STOMPING GROUNDS OF JIM CROW, CIRCA 1930''SYael Hollander''s people have agonized from persecution for thousands of years. And now, with the onset of WWII, her European relations are about to experience the greatest calamity of their long and tragic history: genocide of unimaginable proportions. Yael, a young, promising artist, lives with her immediate family on the Lower East Side of New York City. The time is during the Great Depression, but her family is familiar with hard times and manages to make ends meet. Yael takes advantage of President Roosevelt''s "New Deal" and the Works Projects Administration''s Art Program, designed to provide economic relief to artists and return a sense of pride to all who have suffered from the hardships of the Great Depression. Artists of every medium are assigned to decorate public buildings, schools, post offices with murals, paintings, and sculptures throughout the countryside. Yael''s project is to paint a mural on the wall of the courthouse in West Yazoo County, Mississippi, a place that is as alien to her way of life as the country of Lithuania, from which her parents fled. She quickly discerns that the deep Jim Crow south is virulent with hate, fueled by ignorance, abject poverty and the loss of the Civil War. Multiple forms of xenophobia reign supreme amongst the populace. As a Jew, she suffers their wrath, along with her newfound friends; black folks who suffer worse than their forebears did under slavery; a Choctaw Indian whose ancestors settled in the delta over two thousand years ago and were stripped of their land, their culture, and dignity by trickery and cunning that led to their death march on the Trail of Tears; a dirt-poor white girl who is punished for having mercy on an orphaned black baby. Their story is chronicled by Yael and witnessed by a centuries-old entity that harbors Secrets of the Black Tupelo.

The author, A. (Aletha) Roberta Hutchison Ostar''s (aka Hutchie in high school, Bobbie in college and as an adult) educational career began with two notable events in grade school-in first grade she refused to hold her pencil correctly for the Parker Penmanship writing model; she got a D in spelling in third grade. Both events were unacceptable in her family. So she proceeded to graduate from Camp Hill High School as valedictorian in 1945 and was Editor-in-chief of the HIGH LIGHT, the school paper her senior year. At Penn State she continued her journalism career by choosing it as her major and being named Editor of LA VIE, the yearbook, and News Editor of the DAILY COLLEGIAN, the student newspaper in her senior year, 1948. After working one year as a news reporter for the MCKEESPORT DAILY NEWS In Pennsylvania, and one year each as a book designer at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Press and the Thomas Y. Crowell Publishers in New York City, she followed the tradition of her times by retiring to have her children and becoming an active community volunteer: neighborhood newsletter, Girl Scouts, leader and adult educator, church volunteer, etc. In 1979, with two children in college and one in 11th grade, as a volunteer, she created and managed the annual programs for spouses of the presidents of state universities and colleges for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (aascu) of which her husband Allan had been president since 1965. This was at the height of the feminist movement when the role of spouses as fund raisers and representatives of their schools-unpaid, of course-was a very controversial topic. She conducted three surveys of these spouses for aascu and then, sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation and the Lilley Foundation, she published a survey of the representational roles of a group of college and university presidents and spouses from all universities in the US-public and private-titled PUBLIC ROLES, PRIVATE LIVES. Now, at the age of 92 she has finally written down the stories and some of the lore of her fiercely loyal Iowa Mother, as her children had been begging her to do!

  • - EL SECRETO DE LA GARZA DEL SOL
    av Carol Creager
    235,-

We have a number of secrets about our lives, but one is extremely colorful. If you visit the Sarapiqui River or La Mina (Near Rancho Naturalista) in Costa Rica, you will have a good chance to see at least one of us and some of our habits. If you are very lucky, you will fly me fly or display, revealing my secret. ~ The Sunbitterns It is important that everyone help wildlife to survive and that as many as possible enjoy seeing, while not disturbing, wild creatures. What do I know about wildlife? I have watched and photographed it since I was a small child. I have visited most Spanish-speaking countries during my vacations from teaching Spanish. My first trip to Costa Rica was in 1970. My goals in life are to entertain as well as to educate others and to promote conservation. I want everyone to be able to see and to appreciate nature and wildlife; therefore, I write photographic books. Most books describe animals and birds. I want you to see what I see while I travel so that you can understand as much as possible how creatures live, what they eat, how they move, and what they do where they are visible. I tired of studying books talking about ecology and wildlife; I want you to see what each creature looks like and how they act.I chose Spanish-speaking countries for two reasons. First, I speak the language and have photographed everything I could for many years for my students to see as they learned the language. To communicate successfully with people of other countries, you need to understand their customs and culture as well as their language. Second, people are familiar with huge African and Asian animals. Unfortunately, little attention has been paid to the wealth of Latin American wildlife; I am trying to do my bit to help remedy the lack. While most of my books are written primarily for children, I hope adults too will enjoy the photographs and humor as well as learn more about the wildlife. ~ Carol Creager

From Trial to Test to Testimony...The Promise of Eden is a witty and whimsical memoir of one woman''s life''s journey learning how to walk by faith and not by sight. No matter how unfair life can be, no matter how many trials you may face, no matter how many times life knocks you down, this book urges you to get back up. God has a plan for you! Tena may have kicked and screamed through her own life''s struggles and disappointments at times, but God was pruning and teaching her a valuable lesson-He can be trusted. "God has taken my every experience of pain, abuse, embarrassment, emotional scarring, and brokenness, and He has used it to grow me. For every trial you may face, for every test you go through in life, God is birthing a testimony, a promise, in you... The question is whether you''ll share it or not."

  • - Two Decades of Trailin' Sheep
    av John Stone
    325,-

I was born and spent my early years in the West River country of South Dakota. This story is built from the many hours I spent talking with my Mother and Father about two decades of their lives trailing sheep. In talking with both of them and actually revisiting virtually all the areas where they set up their base camps, I developed a sense of some of their plight-even fear at times-but mostly love for a life most people would likely not choose-if they had choices. This is a story about survival. It is not about beating the elements of life on the plains of eastern Montana and western South Dakota but learning to live with them. In the final analysis, my Mom and Dad truly loved their nearly 25 years of herding sheep. They loved their kids, their dogs, their horses, and probably even their woolies. When we talked so often of those days, their eyes showed that love. I have taught speech communication and public relations for different universities all over the world in my 56 years as a teacher and professor-and enjoyed it all from 3rd grade classes to graduate school. I have written several other books but never one anything like this-this book brought tears to my eyes and newfound love to my heart.

Two books in one!! Enjoy this Bible based devotional book with two different themes - read one side, then flip the book over and read the other one. When Cindy began this journey exploring three-word phrases her dad spoke during her childhood she discovered Jesus was also a fan of three word phrases. That''s when she knew this collection of devotionals could be a flip book and a chance to co-write with her father, David. The technical name for this type of book is t├¬te-b├¬che [ tet-besh ]. (printed so that one side is inverted in relation to the other). Cindy loves this concept and was glad it could be implemented for sharing her dad''s advice and the corresponding advice from Jesus'' three words. Her dad''s three word phrases gave the inspiration and Jesus'' three word phrases provide the guide. Simple yet meaningful.  Dad knows this stuff takes time and a ready mind to "Rise Above It". With Jesus as our guide, He invites us to take a journey..."Come, Follow Me".

Having only been born at the tail end of the nineteenth century, Charlie Brady had never given the slightest thought of the possibility of lifeforms from another planet visiting Earth. That is until the day when such beings physically took him right off the planet. If that wasn''t traumatizing enough, those same beings repeated that same process on several other occasions. The nagging fear that he suffered on a daily basis over the possibilities of future abductions, combined with very terrestrial concerns, sent him scurrying across the United States, in hope that neither the people who were abducting from off the planet nor his Earthly fears will catch up to him. Read how Charlie deals with all of this.

  • - Life Nuggets You Need To Know Before You Are 30]
    av Solomon Ojeagbase
    249

The Big 3.0 is a step-by-step guide written from a place of experience and passion, to help young people live a prioritized life and focus on what is important. There is a lot of noise (distraction) around us today, as there are many things demanding our attention at the same time. It helps you know what is important, and how to stay focused on adjusting your lenses until you see a clear picture of your future. This book is not a get-rich-quick fix, neither is it a shortcut recipe. If you are not ready to fold your sleeves and get to work, then, it is not for you. Furthermore, there is no one-size-fits-all way to success; hence, do not base all your assumptions on the facts in this book. The principles contained in here are profound, as it gives a personal account of how I thrived from my teenage years into my 20s, and eventually my 30s. It offers practical steps on decision-making, which serve as a barometer to measure our progress in the race of life. Working on it with the expertise of Charles Umeh, helps to give a clear illustration to buttress my points in the chapters of the book. I believe that our efforts in putting this book together, will help to prevent you from making some unwarranted mistakes in your journey into adulthood.

  • - A Cautionary Tale
    av David Alan Smith
    325,-

Demons...? Demonic activity...? What would our world be like if the floodgates were opened? What would happen if the hand that kept these evil entities at bay was removed?  And whose hand would that be? This is the Supernatural Age. It is more than a ''cautionary tale''; it is an imaginative and daring version of the Bible''s foretelling of the ''last days''. It is as much written to shock and entertain the reader as it is to inform and educate. To the world, the novel says ''BEWARE''. To the rapture-believing Christians, the novel offers a new perspective on what they believe. This time, however, the message is a WARNING-a just-in-case scenario they need to consider when it comes to their rapture. Although...''The Supernatural Age''...is written with love for Christians and non-Christians alike; it is far from a fluffy feel-good novel. It is a haunting and ominous tale, but not without a light at the end of the tunnel. Even with the precarious settings; global devastation peppered with horror, action and suspense-it manages to squeeze in the beauty of faith, teen romance, and a sentimental plug for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thus, it fully lands in the Christian genre. In addition, it is a timely novel; apropos for what''s currently trending in the political arena worldwide. Suitable for a myriad of audiences; all ages, all genders, all walks of life regardless of race, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religion, culture or creed-the Supernatural Age is a novel for all people.Whether it is read like a movie, or read as a reference, whether it falls into the realm of pure entertainment, or a foreboding warning; either way..., hopefully it will be worthy enough to find an intimate place in the heart of one''s library. Bottom line..., the ultimate battle between good and evil is looming. The question is..., are you ready? The novel has a tale to tell.
