  • - A Collection of Conversations in Response to Everyday Dynamics
    av Dr Donna Freeman Goodrich
    259,-

This book is a collection of conversations to help deal with the everyday dynamics of life. It is meant to inspire the readers when faced with challenges, as well as developing a closeness with God through the scriptures. While the conversations may have some motivating moments, it is really more a collective work of inspirations. So you ask, what is the difference? I've heard it said that motivation is PUSHING people but inspiration is PULLING something out of people. If I'm motivating you, I'm having to push you to do something you don't want to do. If I'm inspiring you, I'm pulling something out of you to do what you always wanted to do but may not had the courage to do. Conversations which inspire are meant to excite, encourage, or breathe life into. It is a desire that everyone who reads these conversations will go away inspired and challenged to be better and changed to do better.

  • - For Your Growth and Empowerment
    av Ilene V Fishman
    269,-

Ilene V. Fishman believes in the power of good and efficient psychotherapy. After suffering with a severe eating disorder from her early teens until her twenties (at a time when next to nothing was known about how to treat it), Ilene figured out how to get herself well. She has spent her long career helping others with and without eating disorders, to get better, faster. Part memoir, part how-to, The Deeper Fix: For Your Growth & Empowerment offers the reader a compelling story of resilience and a guide to making the most of the therapy experience. From her complicated childhood parental relationships, to her own self-admitted mistakes in a low self-esteem marriage, to the grief of losing a son in utero, to raising his identical twin with severe disabilities while parenting her other healthy son as a single mother, Ilene lays her story bare as a cautionary tale. Citing personal agency as a necessity in any treatment dyad between therapist and patient, Ilene is blunt, frank and unapologetically ruthless about not letting the pain that finds you, define you. Choosing not to use the personal stories of her patients, as many therapists who have written self-help books have done before her, was a conscious, deliberate decision. Ilene feels being honest about her own story and resulting theory of practice is the best way to present a successful roadmap to self-acceptance and good mental health. A small but powerful book, Ilene envisions it as a workbook and hopes that her readers mark it, refer to it and write notes in it while using its message to empower their growth to a fuller and richer life. Not just for those suffering with an eating disorder, Ilene's psychotherapy theory is helpful to anyone who is trying to improve their life. A passionate calling for Ilene over many years, The Deeper Fix offers tools and advice to anyone in or out of therapy in a plain-speaking and practical format. She is a realistic cheerleader for the power of good therapy, adamant in her belief in it and also full of compassion and understanding for the struggle, because it has been her own. The Deeper Fix is your primer for developing healthy self-esteem and achieving personal growth and full recovery. Ilene has helped hundreds of patients in her practice and this book is her attempt to offer the same to as many people as possible beyond the four walls of her office. Complex yet accessible, The Deeper Fix is a jam-packed adventure into self-discovery. Don't miss it!

People see what they wish to see. This adage is true regarding Counselor Deeren Laanara D'ryn, counselor for Sector 18. The Tearin of Nara see him as one of their own, but he has nothing in common with the species since his ancestors fled the world millennia ago. His own people thought he would keep their shameful secret. Attuned to history, he knew selfless acts of sacrifice were required to save them all. GY 8086: Birth of the Terrnara Counselor Deeren Laanara D'ryn is spearheading the effort to have the Galactic Counsel officially recognize the Teari-na as their own separate species. Not only is it going to cost him his career-but if they don't find the right way to do it and soon-they could lose the entire Galactic Community in the process. GY 8087: The Quest for the Genocide Trigger Right before the Galactic announcement of the Terrnara, Counselor Deeren Laanara is approached by a genetic scientist who reveals there is a genetic illness that was created and introduced to their population three thousand years before. GY 8088: Blood Lines After months of reports on the Terrnara kidnapped after the Galactic announcement, Counselor Deeren Laanara is hoping to put the whole situation fully behind him when he finds out one of the victims is his own biological daughter. He quickly heads to Laanara to see her but he finds she still doesn't remember much about her childhood despite her mother's Ta'nee handler's efforts to bring those memories to the surface. Lurking within those childhood memories is her mother's deep dark secret.

  • - At My Tennessee Mountain Home
    av Georgie Ann Taylor
    259,-

While working at the college, Butch was afraid Buckwheat would bark and disturb the neighbors that fateful morning. I said to Butch, "I have a weird feeling about leaving Buckwheat home today, let's take him with us." Buckwheat tried to follow Butch and me outside the front door so Butch gently pushed Buckwheat back inside with his foot. After reaching work, just 30 minutes later, I received the phone call that changed my life forever. My home was burning with our beloved Buckwheat inside. Leading up to the arson, there were signs that something was not right in the neighborhood. As Butch and I moved our belongings into the house on the first day, our neighbors asked if we had any black friends while making it clear that people of color would not be welcome. When complaining about the shooting toward our house and thefts from our yard to the local law enforcement, I was told that I really did not belong there. Because I did not spend time finding out more about the place where I chose to retire, I paid in tears and fear for weeks, months and even years. Home grown terrorism within the United States is a reality.

  • av Margaret Grace
    179,-

Margaret presents her unusual experience with trying to reconcile the newly surfaced memories of her father's sexual abuse when she was a child with her own belief that her now deceased dad was one of the kindest people she had known. She finds herself trying to decide whether to embrace her inner child who was coming up for healing or to lose herself to spare her family from this painful truth. She finally prayed that God somehow let her know the truth no matter whether this truth meant she was crazy as her family thought or whether she was accurate in pursuing this truth for healing. She became committed to following the truth wherever it led her, trusting that God had a plan to resolve this family crisis for the good of every family member. The last thing she expected was that her deceased dad would start explaining to her what really happened and open up a dialogue which led to her healing "across the veil".

After being a pastor, evangelist, missionary, teacher, and director of Bible Schools, I have some definite, clear opinions on doctrine in the local church and the individual believer. Any church body that rejects doctrine as the basis of fellowshipping is building a congregation on a foundation that will cause the local church body to crumble. Any church body that has no certain acceptable beliefs will shortly have deception and false doctrine as its daily companion. (Gal 5:9) A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Such is false doctrine. Any church body where the members do not have the defense of doctrinal truth will soon have false doctrine pervasive in their church. THE CHURCH MUST TEACH DOCTRINE (1Ti 4:13) Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. (2Ti 3:16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (2Ti 4:2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. OR EVERY MEMBER WILL ESTABLISH DOCTRINE IN THEIR OWNSELF. After a lifetime of over 60 years teaching the church, I have seen the result of failure to establish the church body, corporately and individually in doctrine. I present to you twenty-five doctrinal positions that I came to in my personal life. This is not all there are, but I had to stop somewhere. I will complete the list, God willing, if He grants me the time, for now this will suffice. In this book I both lay out what I came to as a settled place in God with each of these truths until there was no doubt, only a certainty as these scriptural truths and their dependability and spiritual anointing. I commend these points of belief to you. I believe them, so should you.

  • - Jamaica's Visionary Experimental Secondary Classes 1954 - 1960

    525,-

Equal opportunity for children to access "good education" has to be one of the primary obligations of any government. In a developing country like Jamaica, such opportunity is tantamount to ensuring the country's viability if not its very survival. OUR STORY is a collection of first-person narratives by graduates of one of the most visionary and effective yet undocumented experiments in the history of secondary education in the English speaking Caribbean. The poetic prose of graduate Trevor Thomas highlights this shortcoming: "A brilliant meteor had streaked across the bleakness of Jamaica's education landscape, briefly illuminating its dark canopy, but attracted scant attention, and the remains were unceremoniously buried without headstone or epitaph."The observation of Prof. Emeritus, the Hon. Errol Miller, OJ, CD, Ph.D., DLL (Honoris Causa), an internationally recognized scholar on the subject, further emphasizes the sentiment in his exceptional Foreword: "Our Story recounts and reflects upon a unique chapter in the history of Jamaican secondary education told sixty-seven years after it began and sixty years after it ended by some students who assess its impact on their lives." Although OUR STORY focuses on the period 1954-1960, it directly references critical antecedents as well as pivotal outcomes from the period, especially in the area of Education Policy. The revolutionary role of the Hon. Edwin Leopold Allen, the then Minister of Education who envisioned and implemented the Experimental Secondary Classes, and the notable teachers that were the definitive agents of the success of the endeavor are recognized. The inextricable connection between the Classes and the broader history of Secondary Education in Jamaica is boldly clarified in the volume.OUR STORY references Jamaica's political, economic, and cultural history as these unfolded during the period immediately preceding and immediately following, national Independence in 1962. The absence of the story of the Classes from the larger narrative of secondary education in Jamaica substantiates a void in the history that should be addressed. This history and the related influence of the imposed, traditional, generally elitist, and highly discriminatory, imposed British system of education are well known and documented. This history is therefore not the main driver of this effort. Instead, the effort is driven by the realization that the Experimental Secondary Classes have not received the recognition and credit that they unquestionably deserve. The historical linkages with our own stories demand that we acknowledge the nature, cause, consequences, and relevance of the international protests instigated by the worldwide recognition of systemic discrimination against people of color. It would be irresponsible not to do so. The common origins, direct relevance, and impact on how we may view our own heritage, and the future of the land of our birth are inescapable. Notably, the protests are in direct response to historical inequities in the opportunity to access crucial socio-cultural prerequisites such as education, justice, and the benefits that generally accrue from a clearly flawed, artfully marketed participatory economy that is extensively dependent on the education status of participants. Hopefully, as the stories are told and read, the telling will not be in vain.

  • - The Ministry Gets Persecuted for Helping the Russian Government
    av Perry Riff
    285,-

The Father's Touch Ministry's entrance into Russia represented a great sacrifice on the part of its members. Learning a new language and adapting to the Russian culture demanded a lot of energy, patience, finances, and physical endurance. The staff members made every effort to avoid being perceived as puppets of the Russian government. They kept their focus on ministering to people willing to come to their center, and participating in the program of fellowship, Bible study and prayer. But at the same time, they had to look out for danger from the militant members of the LGBT community, as well as, the agents of the Gay Enforcers, a militant group from the United States. The novel describes the personal lives of the central characters, who had families to raise under stressful conditions. Some had been harassed, injured, and even killed by the agents of G&E. This kind of a ministry is not for cowards. But just the same, God sustains their faith!

  • - Debauchery Before the Internet
    av S D Turner
    589,-

"I simply could not put it down-marvelous storytelling. This book makes you want more. Aside from being incredibly funny, S.D. Turner honors America's soldiers past and present. I could see A Soldier's Tale of Combating Hangovers being adapted into a mini-series."- MAJ Donald "Captain Hand-grenade" Vandergriff, MA, FRSA, US Army (Ret)A Soldier's Tale of Combating Hangovers: Debauchery Before the Internet is the funniest damn book you'll ever read about the military. S.D. Turner, in his debut memoir, brilliantly captures the mood and spirit of life in the early 1990s. After signing up for the Army's delayed entry program at sixteen years old, he found himself at Kentucky's Fort Knox a week after his eighteenth birthday. As a new recruit, the story starts with him running from irate drill sergeants and ends with him running from 1,800-pound angry bulls in the cobbled streets of Pamplona, Spain. Part One follows his 4-month training cycle where the recruits are at the hands of the drill sergeants and every torturous, but funny punishment they can dole out. Having come from a long line of service members, S.D. Turner breaks down the hysterical irony of it all in perfect fashion, as he masterfully puts the encoded world of the military into a language that civilians will understand and service members, young and old, will appreciate. It's a page-turner that will have you wanting more.Part(y) Two finds our author stationed in the beer capital of the world-Germany. As a newly minted soldier on his first night in Europe, he wasted no time in drinking too much, as he defiles a First Sergeant's boots with pizza and beer. Follow along as he finds his first experiences, like driving on the famed Autobahn, mostly-naked, in a 10-ton Army truck, and with an audience of French tourist buses, are usually down-right laughable. He guarantees you will look at soldiers in trucks very differently. Beer fests, an unauthorized weekend in Amsterdam, being chased by the German Polizei and Military Police in one night all happened before the advent and proof of the internet.Aside from being laugh-out-loud, the story, interestingly, is not all beer brawls and bull fights. The subtle theme is the author's reflective quality on character and the bonds of brotherhood that were developed, while their mostly innocent and youthful spirits soared in the moment. As WWII was less than a half-century removed, the rich European history they lived and breathed was not in the least lost on the author. S.D. Turner and company literally walked the hallowed footsteps of Patton at the Battle of the Bulge, slept in barracks still adorned with Swastikas, and hiked a section of the D-Day invasion. The humor is a constant throughout the book, but the subtle theme that every service member can appreciate, is the one quality that defines them as soldiers, airmen and airwomen, marines and sailors-adaptability in every situation. The author has seemingly pulled back the curtain into not only the past, but into a world about the military that few knew existed-the funnier side of all the guns, guts, and glory. America is wrought with warrior heroes, and having only combated hangovers in Europe, the author pays a fitting tribute to the humor of life as a soldier. Sit back and enjoy this hilarious and unbelievable journey and meet some of his closest brothers in the storyline, as they regularly hold reunions.

Meadowdrama is a comic strip which explores the relationship of two diverse characters living side by side. Each page contains one nine panel comic; some stand alone, while others continue on the same subject for several pages. We see the characters thoughts and conversations as they struggle to understand each other, while making a case for their own beliefs. Out in the meadow we have a foul-mouthed rock, a cynical creature, which has lived for millions of years and enjoys nothing more than tormenting his neighbor, a flower. Freshly sprouted, the flower is assaulted with anger, insults, and name calling; it responds not in kind, but with heartfelt love, innocence, and wonder. The fun loving flower is unaware of many things, but tries to enlighten the rock about life with its deep understanding of the natural world. Throughout the book, the flower relentlessly chips away at the rocks anger and hatred; however, after hearing about his neighbor's life, the flowers own beliefs shift. By the end of the book, both have gained some insight into the other, and the rock looses an ever-so-small bit of his hatred. This drama's theme, that we should treat each other with kindness and respect, is told in black and white with a simple line drawing which keeps the focus on their words. Topics of conversation veer wildly and the comics alternate between sad, silly, and serious - sometimes all on the same page. Readers will find a reflection of our times in the characters quest to understand someone completely different from themselves, while also finding some humor, humanity, and food for thought in this little Meadowdrama.

Charles David McCally writes out of his experience as an award winning, television producer/writer, having won a coveted award from the International Film and Television Festival of New York, Religion in Media's "Angel Award," and others. He wrote "Musing in the Footsteps of Jesus," a sensitive rendition of Christ's early ministry, "Reflection of a Storyteller," a pilgrimage of parables, and now, "The Sunny Side of U.S. Highway Escapade." This book shares real life stories of how contemporary people followed God's intended path for their lives. How in trying to achieve healthy, moral, and successful lives, we see how these people had to cope with the resistances, frustrations, and fears set up by the temptations of a materialistic world. Its messages, instructional to young and old, present guideposts to follow when living by the principles of Jesus Christ. Some stories feature warnings of dangerous pitfalls and suggest guard rails to protect followers of God's straight and narrow way. The stories relate to 14 topics that most all humans experience and there is much to be gleaned for the true seeker of God's will. God's main feelings about each of these topics can be seen and verified by His Holy Scriptures. For instance, of the topics, BABIES, and CHILDREN- (God considers them to be heavenly creatures.) Dangerous animals, dangerous people....One National Park Ranger's story! 'Bears, bison, and unpredictable people highlight the memorable career of Terry Spangler's service as a National Park ranger. Being part of the team that put the first radio collar on a grizzly bear in Glacier National Park - and dodging bison inside Wind Cave NP are but two of the exciting events that he has experienced. This is a behind the scenes look at the life of a National Park Ranger, told from the perspective of one who has served in 15 different parks and trained in 10 others over parts of 5 decades.

Seeking God's RighteousnessAre there times when a familiar passage in the Bible springs out and for the first time, you ask God, "now what does that mean"? You have read it or prayed it for a long time, but suddenly you question it. Jesus stated we were to first seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. The little word "and" indicates there is more and also something different between the two. Much study is devoted to understanding the Kingdom of God. How is His Righteousness different that the Kingdom of God? When we Christians accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and believe he died for us, we accept the righteousness of Jesus for our sins. It is the great exchange. What is Jesus directing his disciples to do then? This book begins by describing what the Kingdom of God is and summarizes the need for it within our fallen world. The triune nature of humanity, spirit, soul and flesh bodies are defined. When Adam and Eve rebelled, there was a separation of the spirit body from access to the other two bodies. When we seek the Kingdom of God, we follow a God ordained path to reunite the spirit as it is reborn within the individual. A child is born into a broken world. Choices and events within their lives form an ego that does not have the advantage of a reborn spirit connected to the other two bodies. Practical examples for how this happens and how it is overcome by the grace of God are described. God intervenes in individual lives. His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ is available. As one accepts Jesus as Lord, and the Holy Spirit activates the individual spirit within the person, a new birth occurs. Now the person can seek the Kingdom of God. These ideas are explained with scriptures to support them. A process of sanctification is ignited within the spirit of the person. Paul describes this process of sanctification in many of his letters. Paul also states that many believers are stuck at the milk level of understanding and have not moved into the level of discerning righteousness or seeking the meat of the Gospel. The rest of the book illustrates with scripture and examples how one moves to the meat level understanding. This is seeking the righteousness of God.

The SPARQE tales are stories in which otherwise disabled kids, as members of SPARQE, use their disabilities to become Special Purpose People (SPPs), superhero like characters with a wide variety of gadgets, vehicles and apparatus that they use to accomplish superhero deeds, while avoiding capture by agents of the darkly evil Empty Vessel (EV). EV, who once lost an important promotion to a disabled kid, is a self-acknowledged and self-made sinister scientist. Using the scientific and energy resources of Technoprise, EV has constructed a Bio-Farm where he develops genetic modification technology aimed at eliminating the disabled, creating a "clean gene" society. Through its spokesperson, Mr. Clean Genes, Technoprise markets to the world thusly, ... "Are you tired of feeling different or outside the mainstream? Wouldn't you like to feel just like an ordinary Harry or Sophie with good health, good vision, good abs, and a great attitude? With "gene clean" products and treatments you wake up every morning confident that you can figure out any problem be it work, relationships or whatever needs fixing in your life or the lives of those you love." EV knows he must find the SPARQE lab and eliminate all the SPPs as he needs to have unimpeded access to the disabled for experiments at his Bio-Farms, and to otherwise rid the world or make invisible the disabled in the ordinary everyday world. So SPARQE fights a two front war. In everyday life the SPPs are out there showing how they make important contributions to the lives of other people. Simultaneously, they are trying to learn of EV's plot, the secrets behind EV's science, and the location of the Bio Farm so they can destroy it, topple EV and restore his kindly predecessor Mr. Otterbach as head of Technoprise. The time is 2029, EV has already taken over Technoprise, the SPPs are out in the world under SPARQE's umbrella and the conflict is engaged.
