  • - A Dream I Just Couldn't Let Go Of
    av Dennis Edenfield
    309,-

At the age of 19, I stepped aboard a Greyhound bus in my hometown of New Orleans and headed for New York City. My childhood dreams of performing on Broadway had begun. Just like in the movies! When I published my professional website, I wrote an introduction on the home page. When I went back to read what I had just written, it suddenly occurred to me that I just wrote the first paragraph to my (someday-to-be) memoir. Before I take you on this journey of my life, I will share some things about my childhood that put me on that Greyhound bus to New York. When I decided to venture into this process of writing my memoir, I also made the decision that I would write about what influenced me and encouraged me to chase my dream, and how this dream of a career in show business grabbed me by the heart and wouldn''t let go. My motivation for writing this was to share my journey and offer some inspiration to others who may have their own dream, whether it''s to have a career in show business or a dream of becoming an astronaut.

SELECTED TALES: GLIMPSES INTO YORÙBÁ CULTURE VOLUME II''The Genesis of O̩lópè̩é̩rè̩'' tells the history of how the four lands and sixteen villages are combined under the rule of one o̩ba (king) and how Núgà, as the only surviving son of the late baálè̩ (chief) of Agbèlé and apparent o̩ba, chooses instead to lead the new band of warriors charged with protecting the new land. In the ''The Skirmish at Rògòdò'', an o̩ba''s obsession with a betrothed woman leads him to break tradition and sully his reign forever.''My Friend and Comrade'' is a story of revenge against a Balógun (commander) that shows that faith and friendship is stronger than malice. In the ''The Trump Card'', two childhood friends with very different ambitions fall in love with the same woman. In the end, true love, honesty and purity win over avarice, lust and vanity. ''What''s in a Name?'' explains the importance of names not only on the child itself but in culture and family.''A Mother''s Dilemma'' tells the story of triplets separated at birth who are caught in a foster father''s plot to wed one of the sisters. In ''The Power of Love'', the beautiful Salima succumbs to loneliness and gluttony. Only love can save her from her ever-expanding waistline. In ''Kúsa: A Tale of the Three Ks'', a retired customs officer moves in next door to the smuggler he has always failed to fully uncover.''Always Remember, Together We Stand'' tells the story of an ailing father and much younger wife and their unconventional request for the son to give the wife something the husband can no longer provide. In ''The Riddle of the Inheritance'', when a son continually runs from his home and father, it''s not until after his father''s death that he realises his destiny is there all along. The ''Sequel to Usì'' tells of the Yorùbá gods'' second coming to earth to introduce the leaders of the sixteen communities to the ways of Èdùmàrè (Creator of the Heavens and Earth).''Much More Than Footprints'' begins as the story of a lonely funeral but in the end proves that we all can have a mark on someone''s life. In ''Every Dark Cloud Has a Silver Lining'', a childhood fight leads to a lifelong friendship that teaches that everyone should be valued despite their station in life. ''Farouk'' is the story of a blind beggar who is neither blind nor a true beggar.''But for the Office Pushpins'' shows that ingenuity and perseverance are the keys to success. ''His Own Greatest Enemy'' not only recounts the devastation of traditional culture and tribal language by foreign oppressors but also highlights the importance of instilling honourable leadership within the new regime.

The privilege of writing an autobiography is usually reserved for the famous or infamous. Now, an expert in life stories turns his focus to his own story. The author connects his personal life with relevant aspects of the history of Italian Americans in the U.S. and his Italian ancestry. By combining genetic analysis, genealogy, and the history of southern Italy, the author builds a unique, multilevel context for his life story. This account follows events growing up in Brooklyn and his academic career teaching in programs in the U.S. and abroad. One of the first foreign teachers in the Peoples Republic of China, this distinguished educator also served as a Senior Fulbright Scholar and graduate program head in the U.S. and Turkey. This work is extensively illustrated and appends his last unpublished work on "Life Stories" as well as his doctoral student tree.

There is a band of color beyond the indigo of a rainbow so intense it cannot be seen but is felt. It is in that band that soulful love lives. Throughout time, people have questioned if soulmates exist. Humans have considered whether there is just one soulmate or if multiple soulmates exist for each person in a lifetime. Loved ones have wondered if their soulmates will travel back to them. Beyond the Indigo allows Henry "Hank" McAlester, a gifted patent attorney from Washington D.C., to answer those questions. Married at an early age, Hank knows deep, intense love, the kind that is not easily explained. Many years later, when he sees a beautiful woman heading for a train at Metro Center station, Hank realizes she resembles the one true love from his past. Could it be her? Has she come back to him? With immense love, loss, hope, and faith, over the course of his forty years, Hank embarks on a winding journey to discover who holds the key to his destiny. Through the trials and travels of his life, he realizes a valuable truism. Love cannot be measured by time or space, nor by distance or proximity. What love is measured by is how a heart feels when it finds a home.

  • - Battered Race Syndrome
    av Marlena Brown
    269,-

Black America: Battered Race Syndrome, expounds on the fact that it is long overdue for Black Americans to receive the respect and equality that they rightfully deserve. It also gives analogies of the tainted-negative mindset of some African Americans. It suggests ideas that''s intended to help them change their way of thinking regarding certain issues amongst the African American culture, in hopes to strengthen and build their race. It gives suggestions to Black Americans on ways to implement plans to change this constant abusive relationship with America. It sheds light on past and current treatment against African Americans, as well as the stereotypes given by other races. It also gives suggestions and information to other races on how to change their mindset regarding their negative treatment and the way they view Black Americans. In 2020 the issues of systemic racism and police brutality against African Americans was brought to the forefront of America in such a manner that was undeniable. The horrific murder of George Floyd, by a Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, ignited a large movement amongst the African American race. The movement was geared towards seeking justice for Mr. Floyd, and other victims that were unjustly murdered by police officers. This movement was also initiated in hopes to enforce new laws that will hold all individuals accountable for their heartless and cruel behaviors of racism against others.

To succeed in real estate you must have client leads. Now, other than a short career as a school teacher and football coach, I''ve been in sales most of my life so the news that my success in Real Estate School wasn''t going to be enough on its own to pave the way to a successful real estate career didn''t come as a shock to me and the systems and strategies I followed to build my real estate business to close more than 100 homes a year are detailed in The Rainmaker.

Colonists from a dying Earth, barely escape a rebel plot to seize their ship, the ARROW, and blast off from Luna Base for Alpha Centauri. As they lay sleeping in their suspended animation pods, a collision disables the ship and sends it careening far off course. When they awake 128 years later, they find themselves orbiting Vlor, a planet ravaged by ancient wars, where men are kept as slaves for heavy work and for breeding purposes. Punishment bands locked on their bodies keep the men helpless, unable to resist. With his ship useless, Captain MacKenzie and his crew have no choice but to submit to the women of Vlor. MacKenzie accepts slavery for himself and the male members of the crew in exchange for citizenship for the female crew members. The men are enslaved on farms where they labor in the fields and then have their semen "extracted" by a mechanical device in the most humiliating manner imaginable. On a world where the population is declining, the sperm harvested from the men of the ARROW is precious, and in time MacKenzie is able to wrest concessions from the Vlorians. There is plenty of intrigue as one faction of the ruling council kidnaps MacKenzie and keeps him prisoner at a secret location. There is also an exploratory tour of other parts of the devastated, feudal planet and love for MacKenzie with the beautiful Forlana before MacKenzie finally discovers peace and contentment on this alien world.

  • - Take Your Faith to Another Level
    av Brown Carolyn Brown
    249

This book was inspired by the notes I have taken during prayer, fasting and times of listening to the word. These notes have kept me grounded when I wanted to give up. I would pull out my journals, read, cry and pray then lift up my head and declare, "I'm Coming Out Of This!" All we have to do is fine-tune our hearing in the Holy Spirit. You will hear Jesus above the noise of empty noise makers. When we open our hearts to find Jesus we can be confident He will find us. Listen and pay close attention for God to speak to you. • - Journeying With Gentle Teaching
av McCrovitz PhD Anthony M. McCrovitz PhD
    369,-

When it comes to caregiving, processes of learning and relationship-building are as important for the caregiver as they are for the individual. The work of Dr. Anthony (Tony) M. McCrovitz is grounded in the relationship-building philosophy and practice of Gentle Teaching, his source of inspiration for the writing of this book. In mentoring a spirit of gentleness, we engage in navigating the social vision of Gentle Teaching, based on mutual respect, unconditional acceptance, and principles of interdependence that demonstrate the universal, inherent unity of our humanity. The author illustrates views from both sides of a framework of Gentle Teaching, providing the reader with a window of understanding for cultivating the connections between a person's interior, social-emotional life and their external experience and quality of life. He expands the framework that builds from a moral ethic (the why), with the interweaving of a narrative ethic (the how), illustrating a Quality of Life Model(TM) of services that opens up the dialogue with further discussion of mentoring, management, agency and community formation, and crisis intervention, focusing on identifying areas of need and how to create accessible means that develop congruency for experience and well-being, and inclusive, vital communities. Relationship-building interactions that focus on creating companionship and community, acknowledge the client's value and ability to trust the mentoring processes. This lays a foundation for the intrinsic ability to learn how to feel safe and loved. The learning sometimes means "unlearning" trauma-informed responses. This takes patience while new moral memory is being created. In our learning and practice of Gentle Teaching, we remember a simple law of physics: We do not need to remove the darkness from a room before it can be filled with light. Compassionate, practical, and tested in the author's own practice, this masterful exploration of Gentle Teaching belongs with every caregiver.

And that's only the beginning of Udem's problems. From receiving illicit inheritances to being chased by thieving criminals in his new country, to being named as chief priest by his hometown's deity, Udem can't seem to be left alone in the life he created in the States: as a Christian minister and a college professor. This immigrant story is like no other-the struggle and bliss of immigration wrapped in a page-turning thriller. An immigrant too, Chidera Michaels wrote The Horn of Office to both entertain and educate about immigration into the United States of America-it'll do that, and blow your socks off too.

  • - Spiritual Counsels of the Holy Fathers
    av Edward Kleinguetl
    375,-

Jesus tells us that the seed is the Word of God, planted in every human heart. If each person is made in the image of God, why is there such a difference in the quantity of fruit produced? The parable tells us that the only difference is the condition of the soil, its receptivity to the seed. Rich soil requires hard work and constant struggle. God provides the seed and we must provide the desire and effort. The Holy Fathers provide us with the wisdom as to what is required to have a prayer life which produces fruit-a genuine encounter with Jesus and a close relationship with him. This is the work required for our salvation. What fruit are we producing? What is the condition of our heart? How is the soil? Let us explore what is required for a rich spiritual harvest. Let us accept the invitation of Jesus: "Go out and work in the vineyard today" (cf. Matt. 21:28). Let us reflect upon the Art of Spiritual Life, "the art of arts and science of sciences."
