Author Cellura provides new insight into the events surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He firmly establishes that suspect Lee Harvey Oswald was not the "lone nut" sniper who gunned the President down from a sixth-floor window of a warehouse that bounded the Dallas motorcade route, that Oswald was set-up to be the "fall guy" for the shooting, and quickly silenced to conceal all traces of the conspiratorial plot. He shows there were two successive efforts made to eliminate Oswald before Mafia-connected strip club operator was commissioned to seal the deal by gunning Oswald down while the suspect was under arrest lose protective police custody just two days after the assassination.

PS. Joan of a thousand days, call it over early October, 2020 after a vagrant email flash three years earlier. The Harvey Flood of Houston, Texas devastated her house and home. The Plague Year 2020 her own apartment refused refuge from the pandemic. This writer of a thousand letters sparked her curiosity. Perhaps there was empathy on the flood watch, or photos of Great Britain and his grandkids, or merely the outreach for shared tales of travel and life experience. Say we already met in 5th-6th grades at Netherwood or all high school at FDR. Say we shared the same birth date, same German grandma named Nana two blocks away, same ambitions to get out of Hudson Park and see the world of her Florida and Texas, his of Paris and San Diego, the same weddings and Lorraine's funeral after high school back home. Such was serendipity. Getting to know each other over a thousand days meant writing every day, talking every week, and traveling together to places we dreamed possible. Come the finally getting together, come the Fiftieth Reunion back home, come David to her Greater Houston. It lasted a thousand days. It lasted from our Sixties growing up through our sixties growing old. It was a good time, but all good things like a life worth living come to an end. Count a thousand days and come to that conclusion.

Using a broad spectrum of genres, from humor to mystery to psychological thriller, even horror, along with literary fiction, these ten stories delve into childhood dilemmas and experiences, and the beauty and scars that they leave. They are stories of children and parents to which we can all relate - for the love, humor, irony, and tragedy they express; and for the heart-rending insights into life and the human psyche they offer. Sometimes these themes are brought to light in ways that are tender and fragile, at other times in ways that are frank and terrifying. Either way, the stories and their characters are always provocative. And always unique. Like the nine short stories that precede it, the book''s featured novella and title story - Herm and Pop Visit Eternity - examines the special bond between a child and parent, in this case, a gravely ill grandparent, in a relentless, tension-filled, yet beautiful and discerning way. Herm and Pop set out on a journey in pursuit of a dream. Their journey is about baseball and life, love and war. It is about gods and heroes and dreams of immortality, and what happens when those dreams fail. It is about all of us, what we want and pray for, and what we dread. But can Pop''s heart survive the journey? Or will the illnesses he has kept secret, and their imminent danger, shatter his and Herm''s dream?

Artist Lauren Radke''s children''s book Will You Be My Friend? introduces Frog and his friends, colorful characters she has enjoyed creating for years. The endearing characters share their message of friendship, and the many different aspects of being friends with someone. Frog learns his friends might not look anything like him and that is okay. He also learns that it is alright to have just one or two special friends as not everyone has a large circle of friends. Examples of being a good friend are shared from listening and sharing, to helping and hugging. The book concludes with suggesting being a friend to others and sharing your happiness of having someone as a friend. All friendships are different from the next one, and it is important for children to realize this. The simple, colorfully illustrated book is the second in a series of kindness, friendship, and acceptance. The charming, cheerful characters gently implement the facets of friendship. Having raised four boys and regularly surrounded by preschool grandchildren, Lauren knows the importance and necessity of regular reminders. Everyone can benefit from these suggestions while reading Will You Be My Friend? to their little ones, reinforcing the message. Being nice was always a Radke rule and she regularly quoted "if you don''t have anything nice to say, don''t say anything at all." What better way to be a friend and have a friend than by being a nice person? The amiable Frog, Mouse and Ladybug characters have existed for years and inspiring the development of the characters into simple stories with simple messages are her young grandchildren.

The Ridiculousness of the RaptureThe rapture, which will occur when Jesus comes back for His Church, is about the most outrageous and ridiculous teaching in the Bible. But, if God says it will happen, you can be sure that it will! There have been many discussions in Christian circles about when this will happen, but the fact remains, no one knows. We are not told exactly when this will occur, but we are given signs to know when we are in the right season. The Lord is going to snatch us out of here before the devil knows what happened.Make no mistake about it. Jesus IS coming back. He will come in the clouds for His bride - the believing Christians - to meet her in the air. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-1816 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.Pre, Mid, or Post-Tribulation? When will the Rapture Take Place? The tribulation is the catastrophic period prophesied in the Bible that encompasses a future seven-year period when God will complete His final judgment upon unbelieving world citizens. The rapture is what delivers believers from "the wrath to come," that is, from the tribulation. 1 Thessalonians 1:1010 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. Some say this will occur before the tribulation, some say three and a half years after the tribulation begins, and some say it will happen at the end. Believers today must be ever watchful and hopeful, looking for the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, there may be those professing to be Christians but really are not, who have never repented, continue to be unfaithful, and will be left behind at the rapture. But where is the rapture in Scripture? In our journey through the Bible, we see types and pictures of Jesus everywhere. Every single passage of Scripture points to Jesus Christ. To understand the New Testament, you need to know the Old because what is concealed in the Old Testament is revealed in the New. Solomon uniquely tells us something interesting with the following words. Ecclesiastes 1:99That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun. This passage is a memo of sorts from the mind of God to the readers of His Word that He repeats things in history. If it is recorded in His Word, we can expect the same type of thing to occur sometime, again in the process of redemptive history. So, can we assume that if the rapture is an accepted, valid doctrine, there could be types and pictures of it in other parts of the Bible telling us of things to come? Then the question is if something is pictured in the Old Testament, is it also seen in the New? And can we determine by those types and shadows whether there will be a pre, mid, or post-tribulation rapture? The answer to all these questions is yes! There are many accounts throughout the Holy Bible, all of which point to a pre-tribulation rapture.

"As my grandmother told me, remember that it''s not about you when you''re trying to open the door for people. In football, he''s opening the door and paving the road that other people had to walk on gravel. Greg did the gravel work and they''re able to walk on a paved road ."-Nolan Richardson, Hall of Fame and National Champion Coachat the University of Arkansas"Growing up in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Allie Thomas, a Hall of Famer and state champion coach, Greg was influenced greatly by his father. The atmosphere helped to shape Greg into an outstanding athlete, quarterback and leader. Along with his very capable writer, Leland Barclay, Greg has painted a picture of what he experienced through this exciting adventure. Greg points out vividly the good, the bad, the high and lows of his fascinating Arkansas journey."-Jimmie Keeling, former Head Coach Hardin SimmonsTexas High School Hall of Farner, Retired Coach"Greg met every challenge that I was aware that he faced. From my perspective; he addressed the question, the interviews, the doubts and the uncertainties, but to be the first Black starting quarterback at Arkansas was so magnified. What I remember is how Greg handled that process with class and with grace."-Bill Rogers, former University Arkansas Assistant Sports Dir."Ken Hatfield showed up at my office wanting to see some game film on Greg. The coaches were unavailable so I took him to the football office and put on the playoff game with Plainview on the projector. Early in the first quarter the safety hit Greg with a vicious hit under the chin. Greg popped up, pitched the ball to the official, patted the safety on the back and jogged to the huddle. Hatfield said, ''turn it off, he can play for me.'' As I think back, I can''t remember a time Greg failed to get up, on the field or in life."-Skip Casey, Former San Angelo Central High Head Principal

When his parents paid Mark an unexpected visit, they brought along a film projector to show Mark long-lost videos of him and his brother, Robert. In one scene Robert was on a swing, smiling brightly, and in another, Robert was frolicking in the ocean. Mark''s face, on the other hand, was nowhere to be seen. But his fingertips, pushing Robert''s swing, were visible, as was the top of his head, while he was being pushed underwater by his dad! These videos confirmed what Mark already knew-that Robert was clearly the favorite, despite Mark''s many accomplishments. In spite of this reality, Mark persevered and grew up a happy child in Brooklyn in the 1950s and 1960s, a time of innocence. Mark married his childhood sweetheart, Diana, but no one would have blamed Diana for changing her mind when Mark slipped and fell down while breaking the glass during their wedding ceremony. Mark moved away from his birthplace, Brooklyn, and Diana reluctantly went with him, literally crying all the way from New York to Maryland, their new home.Mark loved sports and especially his New York Football Giants. At a couples retreat, Mark brought along his own knobs from his TV to watch his beloved New York Giants, after finding out that the hotel removed the TV knobs to make couples communicate better. Years later Diana walked more than a mile in the snow to get home, after her car had a flat tire. When Mark asked her why she hadn''t called him, she told him that it was Sunday, and she knew Mark wouldn''t leave the Giants game to come get her. That was the day Mark fell in love with his wife all over again. An amusing story of love and friendship, Guilty With An Explanation not only provides many laughs but also makes the reader contemplate life and how it should be lived.

Young journalist Tanímò̩la investigates the story of ''they mystery man in the woods'' at Abà Kòsas̩ègbé, rumored to be the notorious moneylender Laiyemo̩ of Agbajó̩ town. Tanímò̩la''s family is intimately tied to the story, as his grandfather, Náyà, was neighbor, childhood friend and rival of Laiyemo̩, and Laiyemo̩''s father, notorious pirate È̩rùjè̩jè̩, had swindled Náyà''s father of his home and land. Tanímò̩la''s investigation takes him to a rundown hut, where an invalid Laiyemo̩ lies, his past sins destroying him from the inside out. Laiyemo̩ tells Tanímò̩la that, though he was jealous of Náyà when they were younger, he remembers him as kind and wishes he had followed his advice to avoid pride. Laiyemo̩ reveals his vision of the three bundles - destiny, fate and karma - and tells Tanímò̩la to learn the rest of his story from his benefactor, T''e̩nibè̩gí. T''e̩nibè̩gí''s tale begins with young Laiyemo̩ as the prideful leader of his e̩gbé̩ (age group). He was the son of the richest man in town. Laiyémò̩''s father, È̩rùjè̩jè̩, gained his wealth from piracy and then took over the town as a moneylender. Greatly feared and hated by all, he was ostracized. He isolated himself on an island farm far from others. He was found dead after a mysterious visitation by seven bats and seven owls. Days after his funeral, his henchman and a crone were seen conducting a ritual over his grave. When Laiyémò̩ took over the moneylending business, he destroyed the town of Agbajó̩. Almost all in town were indebted to him; many sold themselves into slavery to him to save their families. The town faced famine and great poverty. During the town''s Centenary Anniversary celebrations, Laiyémò̩''s e̩gbé̩ led a ''show of shame'', where they fed currency into the cooking fire for the feast. The e̩gbé̩ danced and sang, ''We are fully satisfied. Who cares that some are hungry.''

  • av Peter Pastore
    299,-

Up and coming author, Peter Pastore is a craftsman of the short story, following in the monumental footsteps of Canadian greats such as Munro, Atwood, and Gardner. He develops his authentic characters in candidly realistic situations. The lengthier first piece is the universal journey of self-discovery, unveiling the protagonists for who they are and what they become. Love, the most elusive emotion is at the core and its value is enhanced or lost through their human interactions. Any coming of age tale cannot exclude sexual desire and how it plays upon the whole process. Deep within, it is one''s mental acuity or lack thereof which is the key to growth, with one''s social environment, family, and all the opposing others who add to the complexity of it. The backdrop is the unique, developing landscape of Toronto from the early 60''s through to the technological age of the present as one must ponders what brought happiness, sadness and tragedy into the lives of the people involved. Part II explores multifarious relationships. In the first tale, an intelligent, teenage girl has to come to terms with her female partner''s infidelity. "Imposing Fiction upon Reality" analyzes friendship. Can a man and a woman be solely Platonic in their interactions together or does physical attraction or jealousy play havoc upon it? "Julio and Miss Sorciere" deals with the well intentions of a high minded female teacher and her love for poetry. In her attempt to bring that beautifully profound art form to her impoverished, immigrant students does she lose sight of what is of greater importance in her life and those she wishes to enlighten? "Like Father Like Son" pursues the idea of hereditary and its influence in one''s becoming. "The Artist" touches upon loss and its sad effect upon an individual. Can art''s seeming cathartic power re-create the phoenix and its rise from the ashes? Does suffering need to occur for one to produce a visionary piece which touches upon the deepest, heartfelt elements of the soul? "Getting Fired" shows the heartlessness of the corporate world as downsizing for profit effects a young man who must deal with the sudden change in his life. It brings about a reassessing of what is of true value to him. "A Morning with Obisi Loasteame" puts a full figured individual at the center of the story. His struggles are of no less importance than those of any other. In its entirety this intricately constructed anthology threads together many interrelated themes as the author touches upon the imperfections of what truly makes one human. The characters'' struggles and discoveries are everyone''s as they attempt to understand what works in the need to get to the heart of the unending desire to find worth in one''s life.

When my daughter was growing up, she constantly asked, why there were no superheroes that looked like her "brown skin girls." I was waiting on someone else to answer that question and offer a solution but no one ever did. It was when my 7-year-old niece asked the same question, that I realized that I cannot wait for someone else to answer that question for "Brown skin children." Her name is Myani, and she is a beautiful, inquisitive little girl asking the world for a change. Because of her, I wrote a book with a brown skin girl as a superhero. The book is titled after her "Myani the Warrior Princess". This book will let brown skin little girls know that they have the power to fight and make changes. I want all children who read this book to know, that they can slay their own giants and fight for a better world.

No matter how long you''ve been a Christian, there are times in life that will kick dust into your faith lungs. Whether it''s a deeply painful event or just a slow fade into weariness, we long to know in tangible ways that God is near, that He is speaking to us and that though we are struggling to understand why nothing in our circumstance seems to indicate that we are being held in the palm of His hand, He breaks through with His unfailing love to assure us that He is there.  Judy Eicheldinger takes you on the journey of her traumatic health emergency, weaving together episodes of ordinary past events that brought Spirit-filled messages in unforeseen ways, awakening her heart to God''s presence.  But even those times would not compare to the magnitude of what was revealed to her during the crisis.  It begins with a confession of a much too busy calendar that has left her exhausted. She finds herself running circles as a mother and dance studio director while also experiencing a growing depression, grief and asthmatic faith. She ignores most of this, just as she ignores the rising on-again-off-again pain in her abdomen. When she finally collapses from the overwhelming, intense pain it becomes a health emergency and a race to find out what is wrong.  She creatively guides you through her story by prompting you to see God in your own. Themes of beauty, freedom from selfishness, forgiveness, miracles, overcoming fear, staying focused, deep healing, mystery, oneness with Christ, perseverance and eternal perspective will encourage you to embrace how your own unique circumstances are sacred and are positioned to bring transformational blessing to others.  And though one can never know the full measure of what God is doing or why He allows certain things to happen, this book will remind you that He does bestow the gift of His Spirit; to open our eyes, to heighten our hearing as He speaks through everything that surrounds us, so that we may know how infinitely, deeply He loves each of us. This is written with some light humor but always with a heart of compassion for women who have spent too many days in pain, who feel isolated in their griefs, or who just feel like there''s only a flicker of vitality left in their faith. These chapters pull back a curtain of despair and let hope pour through the window to the soul. Find renewed joy, a joy that will set your faith dancing again, and be inspired to rise up and share your own powerful story.
