Please find someone to lead you in the right direction, genetically or spiritually, financial stability or lack thereof, then live with God's blessings! "When you sat down with my family for the last meal before Sunday morning, you pretty much knew what was coming. Mother would walk toward us from the old cook stove armed in one hand with a large kettle and flourishing a ladle in the other. We waited in uneasy expectation. It was Saturday soup night and Mother had cleaned the refrigerator." So begins another collection of Polly Rogers Brown's memories of life from the early 1940's to the present, told in rich detail with warmth and humor. From first and fleeting love as a flat-chested, gawky girl to fifty-six years of marriage to her beloved Wayne, Polly paints her life in everyday shades which create a gentle canvas of warmth and joy. Just as her mother cleaned the old Frigidaire and made Saturday night soup with the leftovers, so has Polly cleaned the compartments of her mind, presenting the bits and pieces in a literary pot filled with the leftovers of her life, her own Saturday night soup.

"Keep your mouth shut, and nobody gets hurt."That's what Joe DaSilva told himself to survive three years as a prisoner of war in the Philippines. When he comes home, he finds that his best friend, Bill, is engaged to Peggy, the woman he loved since kindergarten-and the woman who rejected his marriage proposal before he enlisted in the Navy. To survive with his two best friends living the life he wanted at the end of his street, Joe adopts the mantra that served him well during the war, and walls himself off from his emotions and his friends. Until Leigh Ann and her daughter, Shelly, crash into his life and topple his carefully constructed defenses. This sets Joe on his reluctant journey toward acceptance and redemption. Memorial Day is a story of friendship, love, misunderstandings, and the life-long disruptions caused by war. It makes visible the lasting wounds that victims of unimaginable acts bear throughout their lives, and invites the silent ghosts of the lives we once imagined to make amends with the lives we have lived.

For some war is an inspiring, uplifting, and a liberating occurrence. Such is the case of Emil Dorfmeister. Abandon without a name to the St. Katherine Order in Posen, Dorfmeister received an excellent education but, because he was an orphan, no employment opportunities. He left the sisters' care at an early age to wander from one job to the next picking up experiences and, when working in the coal mines of Silesia, Russian as a second language. When the Great War started, he volunteered and fought for three years in the trenches of France gaining a new talent as a machine gun sharpshooter. But his real asset was in knowing Russian. He was culled from a pillbox crew and sent to Ukraine as part of an occupation force which had transcended its original purpose as a restorer of the Ukrainian government to a pillaging horde that indiscriminately seized Ukrainian food to ship back to Germany. Into his life came Tatianna Brendt, the daughter of German parents living along the Volga. Before the Revolution, Brendt had received an education at the Women's Institute in Kiev and found work with a legal firm in Kharkov. The Revolution destroyed the Tsarist legal system putting her out of a job but Brendt took an active part in furthering women's rights in the Bolshevik party. She was zealous and soon drew the envy and ridicule of those who were not comfortable with a woman having so much influence. She was forced out of her apartment due to rumors of promiscuous behaviors, fired from her job as an influencer, and relegated to living on the Kharkov streets with only the clothes on her back in February. Then an opportunity came her way. Because she could read and write Russian and German, the new secret police, the CHEKA, recruited her to spy for them in Ukraine. She was dressed up and left to find someone she could attach herself to among the German occupation force. She found that someone in Emil Dorfmeister. Warm, well-clothed, well fed, and safe, Brendt began her spying career with the help of Dorfmeister who had become fed-up with the ruthlessness of his superiors in looting Ukrainian resources. It soon came to pass that efforts to collect grain and other food supplies in his area of administration to send back to Germany came to naught and armed resistance to collection caravans increased. Before Dorfmeister's superiors could launch an investigation, the war ended and the Germans were forced to evacuate Ukraine. Dorfmeister's last acts as an administrator were to send Brendt north while he boarded a train to Germany. Brendt succeeded in gaining Bolshevik Russia but the part of the train that Dorfmeister was in was blown up by inept Bolshevik partisans. The train, relatively unharmed, continued its journey leaving Dorfmeister behind to either walk out of Russia or join the partisans to stay alive. He chose to use his skill as a machine gunner with the partisans. Brendt went on to spy on Leon Trotsky and the antirevolutionary General Wrangel for the CHEKA. Dorfmeister, in his turn, joined Wrangel's army after being captured and given a choice of join or be executed. Brendt and Dorfmeister came within a hair's breathe of meeting again and again. Brendt secretly contributed to Dorfmeister's recovery from wounds in Simferopol and nearly came to a reunion in Constantinople after the evacuation of Wrangel's army from the Crimea. Dorfmeister was never aware of who his benefactor was and as a result fled Constantinople to take a job of training the pan-Moslem army of Enver Pasha in Turkestan. The final acts of the story play out in Afghanistan and the new kingdom of Yugoslavia. Both paths are tainted by the past.

As much as Eugene Lawrance Webb's theology degree came in handy as he wrote The Meaning of Salvation, his dying in 2014 really helps this book also come to life. When he was momentarily dead, Webb witnessed God's radiance-and now, he wants to inspire and educate the reader about that brilliance, about all of God's amazing acts of love for humanity. Webb casts a fresh take on familiar scriptures so that readers can better understand the many end-time predictions in order to get right with God before it's too late.

What difference does a name make? We are least grebes. Would you like to be least men or least women or least Costa Ricans or least Americans? It is so derogatory and demeaning. We want to be black grebes or tiny grebes. Do you think those names would be just as bad? We think those merely describe our appearance, whereas least means less worthy than .... What matters to us is our character. That is what should matter to everyone. CHARACTER! Without good character we are nothing. We care for our families, feed our babies, teach them responsibility and how to live on their own. We do no harm to other creatures above water level. THE LEAST GREBES

Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) is a model of economics that has gained more attention in recent years, likely because of its message that countries who create their own currency can never run out of money and will always be in a position to pay for any expenses. Such spending, MMT proponents allege, is not impaired by the inability to raise sufficient funds by taxes, and further, borrowing to pay for government spending provides no obstacles due to the ability of the government to create more money and support any required borrowing by the government. Critiques of MMT are often just based on an underlying belief that it "sounds wrong", or is an attempt to get "something for nothing". Many others who have attempted to understand this model have been left confused. As it turns out, the model of economics I presented in the book "Enlighten Capitalism: A Keynes Primer" allows, in my opinion, a thorough and objective analysis of the tenets of MMT. I focus on a few central concepts that I believe will allow the reader to understand what might be right, and what might be wrong in the MMT model, and make their own decisions about the wisdom of adopting their recommendations.

Back on February 3, 2019, I decided to write this book because I wanted to record descriptions of events and people that I had the pleasure of either witnessing or knowing in my lifetime. In my opinion, these stories are entertaining and inspiring, and during my life I enjoyed sharing them with friends, who upon hearing them often said, "Hank, you should write a book."Well, here it is.I hope that my experiences make a difference in the memories and lives of my family, and I hope that those who read them are able to find some inspiration in these pages.

This book is focused on youth and young adults. We explore aspects of how youth are socialized and how they frame and form their self-identity. Our book looks at Kuwait, a multifaceted society which is often misunderstood by the Western world as mired in a legacy of war, hard-line Islamic values and oil. However, Kuwait is a sophisticated cosmopolitan where Islamic values mesh with Western ideals on consumerism, dating, media consumption and liberal arts education. Our book is centered on the youth and young adults in a society who are modernizing Kuwait beyond its concrete and glass skyscrapers and Western luxury brands. We explore the numerous aspects of the lives of young adults from media consumption, to the effects of gender segregation in university life, to altruism, to social media habits, the effects of Western cultural imperialism on their body image to depression and coping skills, and most recently, the effects of living with a pandemic.

Stories from a Small Town has three sections. "The Day of the Storm" is a historical fiction account of a devastating cyclone (tornado) that occurred in June 1899. The Long and Winding Road is a novella of a young man returning home to New Richmond from the Vietnam War and adjusting to "stateside" life, reuniting with a love he once lost, and a mystery he helps solve. Memories From a Small Town captures the adventures and incidents the author experienced as a NR resident growing up in the Post World War II years. I hope that you find something (if not all) to enjoy, reflect upon and remember.

We all leave some footprints on the planet as we live our lives - evidence of us having been here. We are not always mindful of the results of our actions and the impact they have on the ability of the planet to provide a livable environment for future generations. Like the question in the song Alfie, "Should you take more that you give, Alfie?" I guess that is a question that we should all consider as we consume the resources which are essential for human habitation, often wastefully and unnecessary, and participate for personal pleasure in activities which are harmful to the environment. Like Alfie, perhaps we take more than we give. As the population has expanded and technology has progressed over the centuries we have attained more comforts and pleasures, more things to do, more places to go, more ways to go there, more access to pleasant lifestyles and entertainment activities, and more leisure time in which to participate. Are we leaving future generations of humanity a livable environment on Planet Earth?

The purpose of the book on Angels is not to be a theological textbook or an exhaustive reference source. It is simply and humbly written to be "A Layman's Guide to Learning and Understanding God's Angels"; A BIBLICAL OVERVIEW OF GOD'S CREATED MESSENGERS. Its purpose is to foster information and understanding of the invisible world of angels, better described as the Kingdom of God. The key is to dedicate efforts to learning and preparing ourselves for God's Kingdom as we understand the workings of God's messengers in the past, present, and future.

The United States is facing many crises today, the likes of which have not been seen any time in the history of the nation. There are crises in immigration, crime, inflation, fentanyl drug abuse, cancel culture, education, trust in government and media, racial tension, and many others. While our nation has had serious problems in the past, the current crises are exacerbated by the fact that they are all occurring simultaneously. Furthermore, our governmental leaders, at the federal and local levels, are at odds with each other, appear helpless and can't agree on effective ways to bring valid solutions to these problems. Some meager attempts have been made to address some of the issues causing these problems, but those attempts have been fruitless and ineffective. In the meantime, the problems continue to increase in frequency, severity, and intensity and there appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Stated differently, there appears to be no human answer to various current crisis we are experiencing, and they continue to worsen. This means that we must look beyond man to get an understanding of what is happening, why it is happening, and what is the solution. The reasons for these problems, why man cannot solve them, and the solution to these problems are found in the Bible. First it is important to realize that all nations are created by God, and He has a specific reason for each nation He created. The United States has been blessed with greater wealth, military strength, and economic resources than any nation in the history of the world. Furthermore, the founding documents for our nation were found to have been based on the Holy Bible, further indicating that God had a specific purpose in mind when creating the United States. Our research shows that there are at least two distinct reasons why and how God created the United States which we explain in ample detail. God also provides laws and principles as to how nations should operate and function; and He promises to bring judgment on nations that violate His laws and rebel against Him. When a nation violates these laws and rebel against God, to the extent of the violations and rebellion, the greater the judgment God brings on that nation. From numerous biblical examples, various nations are shown to have rebelled against God. In God's response we see a pattern emerges that can be summarized as God using a three-step plan in bringing judgment and final destruction on these nations. In this book, we brought out several of these examples as illustrations. When we review the history of the United States, we see that it has rebelled against God for decades. This rebellion came in the form of taking prayer out of the public schools, teaching secular humanism in schools, colleges, and universities, legislating sinful activities, refusing to acknowledge God as Creator and Sovereign Ruler of this nation, and many other ways which are brought out in detail in this writing. Where does the United States stand in God's 3-step plan of judgment? From our study and analysis, we show how the United States is most likely at the last part of stage two. Based on biblical examples, the final destruction of stage 3 is certain to come unless the United State applies the solution found in the last chapter of this book, entitled, "Is There any Hope for the United States?".

Charlotte Murray's mother died after giving birth to her out of wedlock in Charlotte's grandparents' home along the Combahee River. She would have turned sixteen that February of 1957. After her death, Charlotte was raised at a cousin's house, on Sugar Hill and Hobonny-one of the most remote and isolated area in Beaufort County, sometimes called "No Man's Land." For Charlotte, life was fun, sad, scary, and challenging. Not only was she essentially orphaned, but she had very few neighbors. With limited resources, Charlotte found joy in the beauty of nature: the river, moss trees, oaks and pine. Despite her challenging circumstances, Charlotte persevered and overcame her early obstacles. Her memoir will inspire and encourage others, showing that by the grace of God, anyone can succeed.
