  • - My Spiritual Walk to Healing
    av Lori L Watson
    165,-

Come take a journey with me to a Healing like you have never known. Come get in touch with your spirituality, and let God be your guide. This book is about not giving up. It's about moving even though you want to give up. It's about having the courage to keep going. Look toward God for your help, for support, and for your anchor. It's about people coming together on one accord to aide in the help of the one who needs it. It's about family, friends, and strangers, who know the Lord and can administer to the one who needs. It's about Hope, Love, Caring and Giving. It's about me going through a terrible time and having to depend on others to help me, which was a tough thing to do. It's about being weak mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and depending on God to lift me up. My name is Lori L. Watson. I am a mother, daughter, sister, and a teacher. I enjoy life by being as adventurous as possible. I enjoy traveling, sky diving, snorkeling, Taekwondo, bike riding, zip lining, exercising and just having fun with family and friends. I like to be as active as possible. Sitting still is not an option. One of my former martial arts teachers told me that "movement is life, stagnation is death." I live by that saying. The analogy is that if the water in a stream is running, it is clean, but when the water stops running, it is no longer clean. I wrote this story with three purposes. To bring help and encouragement to someone who is going through something, and reminding you that you are not alone. To encourage you to tell your story so you can be a help to someone else. It is written for me. Sometimes writing out what you have gone through heals you. I began thinking about all the things God has done in my life. I can now appreciate it because I recognize it. God reminded me what He has done for me all my life-He never left me. Even when I felt like I was all alone, I had nowhere else to turn and no one to turn to, He was there. I know it, I felt Him and I

  • - Transforming the Printed Biblical Word Into Inspired Spirit Filled Teaching
    av O N Rider
    279

Transforming the printed biblical word into inspired spirit filled teaching. In Ephesians 2:14 the apostle Paul, speaking of Christ says, "For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation." Peace is so important to our human existence. Whether that be the peace that allows us to live in harmony with our fellow humans, or the most important type of peace that has to do with our relationship with God. Isaiah 53:5 says that Christ took the stripes that were meant for us. Often times believers do not fully and practically internalize the degree to which the Father has given us peace through His Son. In an objective sense that peace abides with us because of what Christ did. Yet because life is often lived within the margins of subjectivity our minds and emotions can be tossed to and fro. Hence, there is a need. Nay, a responsibility for us to not only repent when need be, but to especially embrace and walk in the victorious position that Jesus has bestowed upon us. Such a mind set is sadly not as common as it should be among Christians and that tragically has to do with the quality of teaching that exists among believers. For our inheritance as disciples of Christ is not the Law (attempting to achieve sinless perfection on our own) nor is it religious morality, (works) it is a grace through faith victory that teaches us to deny ungodliness. (Titus 2:11-12)

  • - The Southside of Chicago, circa 1950
    av Larry Clayton
    305,-

Larry Clayton's story-the true tale of a working man from a working-class family who never forgot from where he came-begins in Louisville, Kentucky, in the 1930s right after the devastating Wall Street crash. Despite growing up in the poorest part of Louisville and then the rough-and-tumble Southside of Chicago, Larry went on to build a full and prosperous life. In Chicago, youthful misadventures involved drugs, shoplifting, and a little bit of hustle, most often leading to more serious crimes, but Larry's path eventually veered away from these influences. My Memories Are My Testimony chronicles his troubled youth, his subsequent career in the Air Force, and his experience in the corporate world. Inspirational and compelling, this memoir is proof that a man's life need not be defined by his beginnings.

  • - Visual Law - Graphical Alternative to the 1000-Year-Old Orthodoxy of Prose-Based Outlines
av Eric D Smith Jd Phd
    1 425,-

Learn the Law Graphically! Use a visual approach to complement your law studies! Learn and recall the black letter law quickly and easily! Learn the simple techniques that summarize the black letter law in every legal subject! Easily determine and remember the key words that you must know in order to accurately answer MBE questions and essay questions on the Bar Examination! See the diagrams that resolve recurring ambiguities in prose-based descriptions of the law! The great truth of the Bar Examination is that, on stepping within the examination hall, either 'you know the law, or you don't.' There is no longer any chance to sit calmly, recall the law, contemplate the law, trace the logic of the law, or innovatively combine its different elements. During a Bar Exam, one is principally reacting from concepts that are now in-built as part of one's own being. There is no time to recall prosaic outlines on every legal subject. Enticed to study the law as a non-traditional student, Eric D. Smith perceived the difficulties in learning the law using conventional summaries. Being outside the traditional law school environment, he did not adopt the outline-based approach, but rather resolved to only utilize drawing software to form and improve his personal diagram-based mnemonic tools. His full set of visual aids is reproduced here to facilitate basic legal education for everyone. "As I began my legal studies in 2007, it became clear to me that an opportunity to innovate on the presentation and understanding of the law was open. Instead of basing my legal studies on the 1000 year old tradition of prose writing, which has only lately been augmented in a limited way by the flow chart approach, I chose to base my outlines of the law solely on diagrams, which I would create and repeatedly modify and hone in Microsoft Visio software. The idea was that the human mind thinks in pictures, and, that under the stress of the bar examination, the mind could more naturally summon a picture containing the answer, instead of attempting to remember innumerable paragraphs."Eric D. Smith is a systems engineer who uses model-based design to think about problems and formulate solutions. He earned a B.S. in Physics and a Ph.D. in Systems and Industrial Engineering from the University of Arizona, and a J.D. from the Northwestern California University School of Law. Enticed to study the law as a non-traditional 'correspondence' student, Eric D. Smith perceived the difficulties in learning the law using conventional summaries. Being outside the traditional law school environment, he did not adopt the outline-based approach, but rather resolved to only utilize drawing software to form and improve his diagram-based mnemonic tools. His full set of visual aids are reproduced here to facilitate basic legal education for everyone.

    av Linda Walls
    335

A wrenching true tale of horrific loss, Surviving Heartbreak Valley is the story of a woman whose four young children were murdered on the day she graduated college. She somehow finds the strength and courage to go on with life. She became an outspoken advocate, conducting seminars, speaking to organizations and groups, appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Show and in a Diane Sawyer documentary. Less A wrenching true tale of horrific loss, Surviving Heartbreak Valley is the story of a woman who suffers the worst tragedy imaginable but somehow finds the strength and courage to go on with life. In 1989 Linda Walls had put an abusive relationship behind her, graduated college, and was ready to start the next chapter in life. But in one hellish night everything changed. She came home to find her house on fire with her four young children trapped inside. The children's father, Bernon Howery, a violent man who stalked Linda following their break-up, had ignited the blaze. In 1991 he was sentenced to death for murdering his children. Linda meanwhile began the difficult process of putting her life back together. Rather than simply drowning in a sea of despair, she began speaking out against stalking and domestic violence to help prevent what happened to her from befalling others. She became an outspoken advocate, conducting seminars, speaking to organizations and groups, appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Show and in a Diane Sawyer documentary. But Linda's battle for justice and to establish a new life for herself was far from over. Bernon Howery continued to wreak havoc in her life, fighting to have his death sentence overturned which was eventually commuted to four life sentences. Writing Surviving Heartbreak Valley is "my next chapter," Linda said. "I want the telling of my story to add a real sense of urgency in building greater awareness of the domestic horror taking place in America, and our nation's need to galvanize a crusade to prevent it."

  • - A Guide to Understanding, Building and Supporting Peer Respites
    av Sera Davidow
    389,-

"Peer respites provide an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization for people experiencing deep emotional and/or mental distress. They come with many upsides including cost savings, less disruption to someone's life, and the benefit of support and wisdom from others who've been through similar struggles. Peer respites are popping up with increasing frequency across the world. Yet, at the same time their numbers are growing, they continue to be not very well understood. Understanding peer respite is the first key to ensuring that they are developed with integrity, well supported in the community, and accessible to all those who might want to use them. This book provides a comprehensive review of peer respite including: - What is the mission of a peer respite? - Who is it for? - What does a stay at a peer respite look like and how is it different than more conventional services? - What is involved with hiring and developing a peer respite team? - What are some of the likely outcomes and challenges? - And so much more! This book is intended for groups wanting to start up a peer respite (or sustain an existing one), potential funders who are contemplating support of such an effort, and anyone interested in better understanding what peer respite is all about!"--Back cover.

In the annals of mankind, philosophers have offered wisdom about the purpose of life and man''s place in the universe, whereas poets explore the nuances of life itself. The role of the poet is to illuminate experience. The poet sings of his love for freedom, and in turn, he is indebted to the soldier, who is the protector of freedom. Kàkos left Greece, his homeland, where philosophy and poetry have thrived for 4000 years to come to the new world of America, where he served as a soldier, and was blessed by all three of the special attributes of poetry. Kàkos'' bloodline of Greek wisdom and lyricism became infused with the tradition of haiku, a poetic form that originated in China prior to the age of Confucius, and eventually arrived in Japan. The Japanese poets loved haiku poetry, and had the honor of bringing this literary form to a higher level, circa the 11th century. Haiku did not arrive in Europe until the 1830s, and it came to America in the 1880s. The elegant attenuation of haiku deeply inspired Kàkos, who found it reminiscent of the Greek saying that "a thought-provoking poem is worth more than a thousand pictures." Kàkos'' 401 Haiku Poems brings the ancient traditions of Greece and Japan together to create a unique aesthetic, emotional, and spiritual experience.

Her fate takes a desperate turn toward the tragic when she marries a man she never loved. For more than thirty years, she stays with him, through insults and beatings, being watched and followed, forced to stay inside while her husband wanders free, betraying her. Emma lives like a prisoner, though she has committed no crime, and that makes it more painful than having committed the crime..Though Alba Era's You Cannot Imprison an Eagle's Dream is a novel, it is based in real life. Emma's story reflects countless stories of victims of domestic abuse around the world. Era wrote this book to give voice to those real women, who face such tragedies, and to offer an appeal to those who have the power to put an end to this very bitter reality.
