  • - Poems and Specious Haiku
    av Tom Tracy
    309,-

Bob Dylan told us the times were changing, and indeed they were. The late 1960s and early 70s put a huge curve in the road of American consciousness along what, until that time, had been the straight and narrow. Put another way, Wally Cleaver skipped town and left the check for Beaver. A great many people were tumultuous and hungry and some were reckless - but they were not afraid. Others were more settled and not so breathless. They were content for the most part except when the hungry ones threatened their beliefs in what was right. To put at risk everything they'd sacrificed for was out of the question for the settled ones, and fearlessness was in them all. Poor Beaver. Poor us. That then, was the time when Tom Tracy first began to find his words; against a backdrop of moon walks and Malibu. Between love and not-so-much, or this page and the next. Writing for him was a way to hold onto somewhere he couldn't stay, to catalogue his impressions or to claim as his own what he could not keep. It still is. Now, Tracy shares with us a unique collection of poems, prose and haikus that are sometimes tough to put a finger on, yet somehow familiar in an uncanny way. Catching the Light Anyway seeks to rouse the undefined remembrances that we all carry with us and take them along for a tasty little spin down 2018th Street.

  • - A Whitaker Family Genealogy
    av Pamela P Whitaker
    249

Pamela married into the Whitaker family in 1973 to find that her father in law, James Allen Whitaker II, had been conducting extensive research on the family using the common methodology of the time; letters, phone calls and personal visits. While his collection of data was extensive, it failed to connect the family to its European roots. After his death in 2006, Pamela began researching where he left off. With the help of computers, the internet and visits to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, she made the connections that trace the family back to its origins in Scotland, England and to the Plantagenet line. This book is the result of that work. Genealogists able to trace themselves or their families back to Jabez Whitaker of Jamestown will find that this book helps move them "across the pond".

Complacency is Killing Healthcare! We have watched as costs have risen, access has decreased, and quality has deteriorated. We've allowed these things to occur without discussing alternatives. Dr. Alm has spent over twenty years in medicine and believes that it is time to make dramatic changes to medical care provided in the United States. First, he discusses why a change is needed; including a broad discussion of key indicators of health and the staggering costs to the US taxpayer. He presents his plan for how the medical system in the United States could be improved. He presents how care could be provided by the federal government. Providing care through federal facilities by federal employees would provide better care, more effectively and more efficiently. The presentation points out differences in his plan and the current healthcare system; included is discussion of who would be affected if this plan were implemented, both those positively and negatively affected. A primary idea runs throughout the book: there are more problems to the current healthcare system than just who will pay for healthcare. Dr. Alm is concerned about these other problems and addresses physician training, research, need for rural healthcare facilities and the extremely important lack of mental healthcare in this country. This book is not just an effort to point out the problems in the system but also a possible solution to the issues facing healthcare in America. He finishes with some things that the reader can do to improve their own healthcare.

A gripping tale of murder, corruption, racketeering, and political malfeasanceDetective Gianni Basso has excelled in the homicide division for years with an outstanding record of accomplishment in resolving his cases. After leaving the Navy as a highly respected SEAL, he earned a graduate degree in criminology, which allowed him to assimilate easily into the field of law enforcement. Being upwardly mobile, he rose quickly through the ranks to achieve his current position as head of the homicide division. With 25 years of experience on the force, he is recognized as a leader who consistently gets results. His most recent case has far-reaching implications, since it involves the death of Jennifer Ambrose, a high-profile lawyer with an Ivy League law degree. Her dead body was found abandoned beneath the Wilson Park bridge. This divorced and very successful litigator with expensive tastes was blessed with beauty, brains, and an abundance of physical attributes to go along with her pedigree education. She worked as the general counsel heading up the law department for Diego Santiago, a prominent business executive with plenty of connections at City Hall.Santiago emigrated with his parents to the USA from Colombia when he was 12 years old, and he quickly became an astute student of the street culture. Through his business acumen, he parlayed his initial successes into a highly profitable business while continually gaining substantial power and influence in the community. His friends inhabit the upper echelons of business, politics, show business, and the sports world. Complicating Santiago's life, however, have been persistent accusations linking him to the growing drug problem in the city. None of the allegations against him have been proven, much to the dismay of his detractors, but the cloud of suspicion nonetheless hovers over him within police ranks.Detective Basso's homicide partner and close friend is Julius Curto, a highly qualified veteran of the Marines who served in the international military arena as an officer on the Provost Marshall's staff. He is considered to be fair-haired within the department and on a fast track to reaching the top. Basso and Curto dig well below the surface of the victim's personal and professional life and the lives of everyone with whom she had any contact to learn heretofore unknown and astonishing details. With the mayor, the chief of police, and the media crying out for resolution, Basso and his team are under considerable pressure to find the answer to this baffling case, but numerous obstacles are put in their way to hinder progress.

'Soft And Gentle 5: A Remembered Prose' is a rare, hybrid blend of poetry, prose, mini-story, and memorable words of wisdom that is expressed with heartfelt, captivating imagery and symbolism. It vividly presents representations of emotions that everyone typically experiences in their life. The writings carry such detailed and passionate descriptions that it transports the reader right alongside the author, seeing just what he is writing about. Most of us spend our younger years getting caught up in trying to have it all and do it all. Only after years of marriage and having a family do we begin to recognize what is more important to us. At some point, we begin to shift our priorities, realizing that many of the dreams that we spent chasing in our young adulthood will have to temporarily sit on the back shelf. Going to our children's and grandchildren's athletic activities begin to replace the dreams that we once dreamed. It becomes hard to put things in proper perspective. Eventually, we seem to settle into an acceptable, compromised routine that most of our friends and family are comfortable with. We also discover that we are getting older, and time to fulfill dreams and mark things off the bucket list is clicking away too rapidly. Author James A. Hunter fills his prose with selective, heavy-hitting sentiments that beautifully depict what many of us may feel on any given day. 'Soft And Gentle 5' will deeply touch those who can relate to the happiness of love, or the sadness of losing love or loved ones; it will move those who appreciate the beauty of nature and help them realize that we need to appreciate and preserve it; it will motivate those who aspire to enhance their life through their own, positive efforts; and it will inspire those who refuse to let life's setbacks get in the way of achieving their own dreams. This versatile, heartfelt collection of 200 pieces of prose will mellow the heart as it explores life, love, beauty, nature, happiness, hardships, dreams, and nostalgic memories. Take a break from a busy schedule to enjoy these unique observations, and discover the soft and gentle aspects of life for yourself.

  • - Impact on Employees
    av Dr Prince Ellis
    485

Corporate eLearning or training can provide multiple benefits to corporations. However, it is still unclear how employees benefit from using different eLearning management systems as a means of training and development. Corporations continue to provide eLearning support to their employees without knowing the impact on employees' productivity, job satisfaction, overall job performance, and organizational commitment. Corporations are sometimes in the dark whether expenditures on eLearning correlate to higher productivity; improve job satisfaction, and overall organizational commitment. Corporations also wonder whether their eLearning investments for training and development are justified. This book examines whether eLearning usage has any correlation with these variables. A survey of educational institutions and international corporations was conducted to explore the impact of corporate eLearning on employees' productivity, job satisfaction, overall job performance, and organizational commitment. Demographic factors such as age, gender, employee status (fulltime or part-time), managerial level, year of eLearning experience, educational level, and company size were analyzed to determine impact on employee satisfaction, productivity, performance, and commitment. The results showed that the use of technology alone will not yield desired results; corporations need to determine a balance between eLearning strategies and managerial support.
