Is it possible to vanish without a trace? What elements would have to be at play for this to happen? What outside influences? At a time when technology can track our every movement, a forty-four-year old woman, Moira Dugan-Donnelley, has a stroke on the frigid streets of Chicago very early one November morning. She lies alone in the cold for several hours before discovery. She has not been assaulted, but she has been robbed of her identification. Her coat, purse, hat and boots are removed by a homeless person who leaves behind her own ratty shoes and coat. Moira is eventually discovered and rushed to the hospital, where she is assumed to be homeless, and possibly mentally ill. The tattered and noxious odor of her clothing outweighs other bodily signs of good grooming; being found in her bare feet in winter suggests mental illness. She has no identification but found in the pocket of her sweats is a rumpled slip of paper with the letters Sonj... written in script. Moira is in a coma and the hospital staff takes to referring to her as Sonja. On the day before this incident, Moira and husband, Paul, had a nasty argument as he was leaving on a five-day business trip to San Francisco where their daughter, Soupy, is a college freshman. The first two days, Paul takes some free time to visit with his daughter. He makes several unsuccessful attempts to reach Moira to apologize, and thinks she is giving him the silent treatment. When he coaxes Soupy to text her mother and she is ignored, Paul knows something sinister has happened. He cuts the trip short and returns home.Meanwhile, with no family or friends to speak for her, Sonja's story goes cold, and she drifts into the category of another uninsured homeless person. As Sonja's story fades, a surgical team, a neurologist, and assorted support staff are mobilized by an aggressive pharmaceutical executive who sees an opportunity to perform some risky experiments in the interest of science. The objective is to bypass the red tape and duration of FDA approved trials, thereby reducing the time and cost to bring these new therapies to market. Despite five days of local news coverage, no one has claimed Sonja as family...making her a perfect candidate for experimentation. At first, the detective assigned to this Missing Person case thinks it's a marital spat sparked by abuse or infidelity. But after interviewing friends and neighbors, the detective becomes sympathetic. Unfortunately for Paul, the sympathy is short lived. The detective learns some things that make Paul look guilty of foul play.At the same time, Soupy has come back to Chicago and mounts her own independent search. She determines that her mother was doing some research at the Art Institute of Chicago, and she follows clues that lead to a private email account in which the exchanges make it crystal clear that her mother was having an affair with a young art student. She decides to confront him in a public place.

A major disaster at JFK Airport in New York that killed people and destroyed aircraft alarmed the nation, but also emphasized the necessity to eliminate any opportunity for cyber hackers to control computers and any digital systems in use anywhere. President of the United States, Ray Gill, had appointed Craig Johnson as Secretary of the Treasury, and his wife Kitty Johnson as chief analyst in the department. Hacks into various financial records, and the theft of funds from various company investment accounts, further emphasized opportunities for physical disaster as well as major financial crimes that could even devastate the economy of nations. After completing his second term as president of the United States, Ray Gill partnered with Craig and Kitty to develop a company, Magneticus, build a large facility, and create innovative software and hardware that could control any cyber system anywhere. They developed systems that could amplify sound waves and direct them at any electrical system and destroy its ability to function. They developed a system to amplify sunlight up to one-million times its natural capacity in a greenhouse effect. Those systems were intended for use on American drones and aircraft to immobilize any war-making equipment of any nation that demonstrated aggression. In retribution for actions of Russia and North Korea, the United States hacked and entered communication systems in Russia and North Korea that demonstrated the capacity of the United States to control rogue country intentions to disrupt communications and create disasters. In retribution, North Korea attempted to invade South Korea. As North Korean aircraft prepared to take off and attack South Korea, American air power used the Magneticus systems to immobilize all land and air military equipment. The war was stopped even as it began with no shots being fired. When Iran determined to fire seven nuclear armed missiles into Israel, the United States again used Magneticus airborne equipment to destroy the missiles as they were preparing to leave their launch pads. Again, the attempt at war was quieted. This novel is a work of fiction. It introduces scientific concepts in a science fiction mode that offer real possibilities for development.About the author: Gil Alligood retired from a profession of consulting engineering and began writing novels. He also retired as a pilot and colonel in the United States Air Force. He flew all over the world and in several areas of military conflict. His sensitivity to the loss of life in wars inspired him to develop the concept of the quiet war. He is a Christian, teaches Sunday School and uses those principles in conduct of his characters, particularly Craig and Kitty. They always are concerned about the morality of their actions and the effect on people. He still flies his Piper Arrow airplane. He and his wife use it for pleasure and travel. Previous novels he has published are, The Devil's Pace, Dark Paths to Light, Team Alpha and Firsthand Knowledge.

  • - Mastering the 12 Absolutes essential for success in the "Swamps" of today's changing unpredictable landscape.
    av Bob Flynn

If you knew you were going to wrestle an alligator in the future, you would do everything in your power to prepare, right? You'd read books on the subject and study the techniques of the most successful alligator wrestlers. And you would most certainly hire an alligator wrestler coach, one who had personally wrestled many a gator.Alligator wrestling is a most challenging undertaking; trial and error won't cut it in that profession. Well, guess what? Creating a successful life is a far more challenging undertaking. Most folks don't study it in depth, and as a result, they rely on the unpredictable effect of trial and error. At best, taking this path may occasionally lead to pretty good success. Most often, however, it leads to settling for a life that is far below a person's hopes, dreams, and potential. People taking this route often become uncomfortably complacent, a malady endured by the vast majority. I should know, I used to be a "Purdy Good Alligator Rassler"! And man, did I suffer as a result. Fortunately, my suffering has been over for many years. I now enjoy the life of my dreams. You can do the same, and this book will show you the way.If you're only a Purdy Good Alligator Rassler, or even a lousy one, this book will guide you through the treacherous alligator-laden swamps. When you inevitably encounter a gator, you'll know precisely how to wrestle him (or her) successfully. Importantly, you'll learn precisely how to avoid most gators, be they people or difficult circumstances. It will be my honor to train you in the fine art of Alligator wrestling.Bob Flynn, Alligator Rassler

Every Reiki teacher I've ever met makes their own class packet because trying to use a full textbook is completely impractical.Every. Single. One.Making copies every time you have a Reiki class to teach is a frustrating hassle. Believe me, I know from experience; which is what inspired me to finally get this book published. I just took the same class packet that I've copied a hundred times over the years; fine-tuned it, and made it much, much prettier. As far as I know, nothing else quite like it has been made available on a large scale. I think it's high time we and our students had something beautiful, and more importantly... convenient to use. This little book may contain only the "Elementals", but it holds everything you need to teach a great Reiki I class. It's also a power-packed and concise introduction for anyone interested in starting down the Reiki path.

  • - How I Increased Collections $400k in 1 Year, and How You Can Too
    av Dr Zachary Schwab
    329,-

Imagine you have reached the culmination of a long, expensive journey. You've worked hard, made the right decisions, excelled in school, completed 8 years of higher education or more, and now people call you "Doctor." It's an amazing feeling, yet so many Dentists who have traveled down this path find themselves unhappy, and unfulfilled. Some feel unsure about how to improve things, feel stuck or even worse, desperate to get out all together. The success in academia does not seamlessly translate to success outside of it. The Prospering Dentist's Guide: How I Increased Collections 400k in 1 Year was written to help Dentists unlock the upside of their profession, to act as an adjunct to a suite of tools designed to help Dentists learn more about the business end of their practice. It was written by Dr. Zachary Schwab who went through his own transformation as he navigated the waters from an employee, to a partner, to full fledged owner, and taking his practice that was headed in the wrong direction and turning it around. Through years of trial and error and tens of thousands of dollars spent on programs and consultants, Dr. Schwab's goal is to make the information Dentists need to excel in their business more attainable. This book is the first piece of that program. It is written as a step by step walk through of the tasks he performed that increased his gross collections by over 400,000 dollars in just 1 year, and without adding a bunch of trendy services, or buying expensive equipment, or opening multiple locations. If you are a Dental Student, or an Associate Dentist who is thinking about branching into practice ownership of any sort, or a current practice owner who needs help growing your business, then this book is for you.

Two Letters: One to play ball with the Yankees and one to fight the war in KoreaAt the time I was drafted, I had no idea what an impact my experiences in Korea would have on my life. The first few days looking at the children lying about with no place to go, I was deeply moved and could think of nothing else. I found myself praying for them, soon food and clothes were in order. At this point, I began asking God for help.

  • - New Beat Poetry
    av Roderick Deacey
    235,-

Roderick Deacey's new take on Beat Poetry redefines the borderland between song lyrics and poetry; words and music. Unlike the 1950's Beat Generation's forays into poetry and jazz, where the jazz arrangements played around the poetry, Deacey's spoken words themselves take on the role of a lead instrument when backed by his bass and drums rhythm section. The poems have evolved into structures that move far beyond song lyrics into mixes of formal and free verse that carve their own path among today's contemporary poetic genres. This selection shows the range and vitality of this iteration of beat poetry, moving from love and loss stories to current issues and concerns. Deacey has established himself as a charismatic live performer, but the heart of his readings is found in the strength and imagery of these compelling new poems.

God did this to see how strong our nation we really are and if were really worth heaven. This is all probably just a test before real peace. God has cursed me to tell the truth. The very word secrecy is repugnant in a free and open society. And we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths, and to secret proceeding. Cancer industry not looking for a cure; the government they're too busy making money, chemotherapy drugs and radiation, dangerous drugs, diseases no cure. The government has money for wars but can't feed the poor. 100 million people were homeless worldwide, and 1.6 billion people lacked housing. Men should respect women, women should respect women, men should respect men, and we should respect our homeless people and our veterans.

  • - A Biblical Look At Spiritual Warfare
    av Ernie Deporto
    285,-

Does the contemporary, popular teaching on spiritual warfare have a true understanding of the bible's teaching on spiritual warfare? This book exposes some of the more popular, unbiblical teachings that come from many contemporary leaders in Christianity. It looks at what the bible says about spiritual warfare and reveals Satan's true strategy to deceive God's people into doing good things the wrong way. The enemies' goal is not the teaching itself but their process of learning. The book shows how good, solid bible study will protect God's people.

Fitting in And Forgiven has taken over 10 years to complete. It is aimed for preteen girls, between the ages of 10-14 years of age. Depending on the child, it would be appropriate for as young as 8 years of age, and as old as 16. Honestly, I believe many moms may enjoy reading this book. As I've searched the shelves in bookstores, I have not seen anything like this book. There are plenty of devotional books for young girls, that inspire and speak truth into their lives, but nothing quite like the book before you. You see, I realize what happens in a young girl's life now, is life lasting in her heart. That is the essence of where my book begins, it is filled with real examples of my own personal life of what I went through as a child, that I believe will resonate in every young girl's heart. It is my prayer this book finds its way onto the right eyes, and into the right hands and hearts. Thank you very much for your time.

While You Are Away is written from the standpoint of a child remembering the activities he shared with his father prior to his father's deployment overseas. This perspective shows how the memories forged between the parent and his child in the time leading to the parents' departure enables the child to remember his missing parent. This book, while written from the perspective of a military child, can so easily fit into any family unit where a parent leaves the home for an extended period of time. It shows how important the child's memories are to them as they grow and cope with the parents' absence; looking forward to their parents return and the building of new memories. This book can easily relate to any family situation; be it military, police, firefighter, medical or civil defense families or any type of family where on parent or the other leaves or is deployed from the home for an extended period of time. The family and especially the children left behind will be able to remember these dreams and memories of the past time spent with their parent as they await their return. In doing so, it shows these children are not alone throughout their parents' absence. They carry the memories of past adventures with them in their minds and hearts until that parent returns to create new and lasting memories. This book is dedicated to all those children and families who continue to live with these treasured memories and never forget.

  • - Twenty Five Poems from around the World
    av Arup SenGupta
    189,-

Hype of globalization is inescapable in today's world and it claims to make the world smaller every day. At the same time, that small world seems to have now been divided into countless islands with unwelcome boundaries. In fact, the ongoing phenomenon that 'our world is being broken down into fragments by narrow domestic walls' is clearly on the rise. Technological advances constantly preach: fast is good, comfort is progress and information is knowledge. At the least, such mindsets warrant close scrutiny. With insightful observations in tandem with hardcore realities of life from around the world, the poems here tend to challenge progress as portrayed by conventional wisdom, reaffirm the power of human spirit, uphold values of our deep-seated aspirations and assert that real good things happen only slowly - one step a time. The poems draw their inspiration from tangible, concrete sources around the world; it may be a friend, a memory, a visit to a place, an event, an aspiration, a conflict, an insult or ever-resonating love. The author walks around in a 120-year old research laboratory of Dmitri Mendeleev in St Petersburg, Russia and deeply admires how his invention of Periodic Table has connected the rest of the world and served as a metaphor of what is universally good. The poem draws a true parallel between every element and every human through the words: 'For it (element) has a core and a face/a specific home with address.' In the poem titled 'Lead: My Saga in Flint, MI, ' hundreds of children and elderly in the wealthiest country were inflicted with severe lead poisoning but it was truly a man-made crisis perpetrated by human greed. We see a toxic lead molecule that is claiming no responsibility: 'I committed no sin/I meant no harm/your greed made me homeless for no fault of mine.' In the poem, Soccer: the Cradle of Ultimate Democracy, the author sees in this simple game a level playing field and a unifying force to connect all around the globe. For his long-lost extremist friend in the poem 'My Friend from Seventies, ' a question raises its head 'Who really perished/and who would live forever?' The author has traveled to over fifty countries and in the poem 'Key to Joy', he first laments 'I observe as I travel/Borders kill more than save.' He later declares 'Contrast is the mother of all harmony/that we must learn to accept.' The words 'happiness' and 'competition' are omni-present in today's society and ironically, they are constantly in conflict with each other. In 'Slow Down, ' which gives its title to the entire collection, the poet simplifies the challenge 'There isn't any road to happiness/road is the happiness.' And later, 'Turning to each other is more fun/than turning against.' At the end, these poems challenge the status quo, force us take a pause and at times trigger the question: Are we on right path?
