Many contemporary forms of dance express personal, political, or social commentary, but without the direct communication of words, how can we understand? ChoreoGraphics: Six Studies follows seven dance artists, as they build new work, with photographs and conversations. It provides an opportunity to heighten the reader's aptitude for 'reading' dance by explaining, not only the ideas that gave rise to these works, but also the techniques the choreographers use. These six choreographic studies serve to enhance the reader's literacy in reading movement. Each chapter is devoted to a specific choreographer and her/his individual approach to communicating powerful ideas through dance. These themes span race, sexuality, love, relationships, cultural markers. Some are specifically focused on one aspect; others are intersectional. Alexandra Beller mined the effort she observed when her 11 month old son struggled to find the elusive balance he needed to walk and to learn to navigate space and gravity. His need to accomplish this was nothing short of survival for him. Beller explored that intensity in milkdreams. When Janis Brenner visited Bosnia as a guest artist, she led a workshop that included artists from both sides of the religious and cultural divide. She found inspiration for Once You Are Not A Stranger as she observed the growing trust among these dispirit groups. Marjani Forté-Saunders saw the magical unicorn as a metaphor for the black male in our culture: the imaginary unicorn became the embodiment of his vulnerabilities and strengths in her powerful solo, Memoirs of a...Unicorn. Colleen Thomas began her work about women's issues only to realize how often they intersect with those for men of color. Her(e) Repetitive Blueprint emerged as an observation of the intersectionality of these groups. Nathan Trice explored the various, and often unexpected, ways that people express love, from tender looks to unspoken questions; with trust or with challen

"Scabs" is a humorous depiction of two adult sisters who survived growing up with an Italian dysfunctional alcoholic mother. As children, they witnessed their mother, Carolyn, have violent, and erratic temper tantrums. Carolyn would throw corning ware, coffeepots, and brooms while screaming obscenities before breaking down in tears. The girls had coined the term "Scabs" or "Sudden Crazy Ass Bitch Syndrome" to define it. Humor was their way of deflection. They emerged as extreme opposites despite their sisterly bond and loyalty. Angie is a brash dynamic journalist turned television producer, while Jan is a mother who works at home in their family business. She is timid and runs from all confrontation while Angie craves it. Angela was awakened by the Woman's Liberation Movement in high school, while Jan was busy taking applications for her future husband. Both love their families and good sex. Angie will tell you all about it while Jan just grins a lot. Angie will tell you she's a bitch while Jan tries to deceive you that she's not. But in reality, they are both bitches born from a crazy ass bitch. As a child, Carolyn had taught Jan how to be the Bridge party bartender. By the age of six, she had mastered Muddled Old Fashion's, Martini's, and Manhattan's. But by the age of seven, Jan witnessed her mom's first Scabs episode. Jan finished serving all the cocktails and was in the kitchen rinsing out glasses and playing with her good friends- the whiskey, vermouth and vodka bottles. They were toasting to a successful evening of bartending. No one mentioned that Jan couldn't drink at the party, perhaps a slight oversight on Carolyn's part. Just as Jan finished pouring her extra dry Martini with a three olive garnish, Carolyn popped into the kitchen for some fresh ice. Innocently, Jan smiled at her and raised her glass in cheer. It was then that Carolyn exploded in full Scabs mode. In two steps, she crossed the kitchen and slapped Jan right off of the counter. The screaming began and dishes and glasses were being smashed. Jan's dad rushed into the kitchen and was assaulted by a flying coffeepot and broom. Apparently, this was his fault. That night in their bedroom, Angie reassured Jan that she was special and the bond that tied them for a lifetime was born.

Many aspects and perspectives of One's Life are here and probably confirmations of your beliefs. I am sure that there will be parts where i become the antagonist to your beliefs as well. Fortunately, there are also some pleasurable poems that can and will create nice visuals, especially if you have a healthy imagination. Lastly, everyone at some point in their lives should indulge in something that might not appear worthwhile nor worth their time...because time holds within it a myriad of lessons and moments that will stay with you for eternity. Free will.

In Minimah's book she talks about various topics because those are the different turns she made while on her life's journey.Topics range from self-love, being Black in America, politics, being one's authentic self, cheating, heartbreak, sexual confidence, lust, relationships, change, motherhood, postpartum depression, dream chasing, friendship, traveling, death, grief, to self-awareness.

So let's begin with a quick question. Have you ever had the experience where someone or something really made you mad? If you answered, "Yes" then you, like I, have been the victim of the "Big Lie." One of the biggest 'lies' perpetuated by and in our society is that our emotions, be they anger, anxiety, or guilt, etc., are all created by external events. Our world seems to SHOUT that you and I are NOT responsible for our emotional upsets, rather our unhappiness is the world's fault and we are merely victims. After all wasn't it the 'jerk' that just cut you off while driving that made you furious? Or, isn't it that noise that you just heard coming from that darken alley that is terrifying you? While this may all seem to make sense, the truth is that it is not the world or some person or set of circumstances that make you or me an emotional wreck. That responsibility, as well as that power, rests within us. The straightforward truth, one that serves as the core to the proposed book, is that our emotional reactions are a function, not of the events we are encountering, but instead they are the result of the way we THINK about those events. Simply put, if you think "crazy" you will act and feel crazy and it will undermine your emotional well-being. Defeating Your "Crazies" is a self-help book, reflecting extensive research, that helps the reader come to understand and embrace the fact that it is not external events nor situations that directly cause our emotional reactions but rather the way we process them.
