Imagine a democratic Catholic Church run by the parishioners. Molly Winters experienced that in Massachusetts. She didn't expect to find another such parish when she returned to Minnesota, until one found her. Since childhood, she wanted to be a priest and, in many ways, she functioned as one. Despite wondering if ordained priests would become obsolete, she prepared for ordination. She refused to be ordained until she was called by a worshipping community. A dilapidated building, tornado and a bishop who wanted priests back on their pedestals, created such a possibility. The bishop wanted St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church closed and the parishioners merged into other parishes. He scolded them for allowing divorced Catholics to receive Communion, welcoming same sex couples and refusing to use the official 2011 translation of the prayers for worship. He knew closure was impossible. His successor suppressed the parish only to have the Catholic Community of the Apostle Mary Magdalene become a reality, and the ordination of Molly Winters a necessity. Over the years Molly observed one of her parishioners, Amanda Donato, deteriorate after learning her parents were not her biological parents. She drowned her mother's abandonment in alcohol. While she despaired, her brothers searched for her birth family. After rehab Amanda is forced to join her pastor driving around Lake Superior. Molly's priesthood had been threatened by nasty notes and stalkers who saw women priests as destroying the Catholic Church. Molly's expectation that in leaving town she was escaping these threats was unfounded. Along the way police assist as together the women face addiction, kidnapping and car bombs; as well as beautiful foliage. As their journey winds down, Amanda's brothers connect their sister to her birth family. The story begins with campaigning for Senator Paul Wellstones. • - The Incredible Journey of an Employee and Manager
av Jack Stahlmann & Mark Luis Foster
    309,-

Many employees of companies across the country can relate to the idea that their office sometimes resembles the hot mess of a soap opera. Such a premise generated an interesting question: What happens if an employee and his manager showed up to work one day, only to find themselves inside the chaotic environment of a TV soap opera? The co-authored manuscript, "Days of Our Work Lives: The Incredible Journey of a Manager and Employee" explores that very idea."Days of Our Work Lives" is a single story written from two different perspectives. Designed as a flip book, it provides the reader with one angle written from the manager's view, while the other angle is written through the eyes of his employee. Our main characters, Jack (employee) and Mark (manager), arrive at work expecting a typical day, only to discover that their office has inexplicably transformed into a set of a typical soap opera. Jack is now the star of the soap, navigating his new world while trying to find his true role. Mark is thrust into the role of the soap's director, delicately balancing the needs of his team with the pressures coming down from the network bosses.Readers of self-help, motivational and business management books will appreciate the unique way each writer navigates through the sudden chaos of a TV soap opera production, complete with humorous and sometimes eerie similarities to the typical work environment at any company. The story showcases the tensions that exist between managers and employees when the heat is on, and how such situations can be resolved.About the authors: Jack is a former actor and current corporate speaker who humorously addresses workplace challenges for audiences nationwide. Mark owns his own marketing advisory firm in Minneapolis and spent several decades as a senior marketing executive who managed people and projects for Fortune 500 companies. As an added bonus, the book features two forewords from industry notables: one from the former longtime producer and director of "Guiding Light" and "Days of Our Lives," Roy Steinberg, and the other from Alice Hirson, actress from "Edge of Night," "Another World" and "One Life to Live," with primetime credits including "Dallas" and "Ellen."

As the last soldiers of World War II say their goodbyes, the stories of their experiences go with them. Have you ever wondered what WW II was REALLY like? In spite of fiancée’s skepticism about his mental problem, Peter decides to take certain pivotal steps to deal with it straightway. He visits his mother at Farmington, Missouri and learns from her, dad was an alcoholic and also exhibited severe mental symptoms. She did not know much about his side of the family, but recommended to contact a grandma living in New York.Peter found Grandma Agnes extremely forthcoming about her family history and learnt from her, his father returned from Vietnam as a heroin addict, quit using it after finding out of his Hepatitis and later turned to alcohol. Grandfather lived in and out of State Hospitals and committed suicide. The next step for Peter was to find a good psychiatrist. He learnt the best way to find one was through the Physician Referral Services of a good hospital, following it up with Face to Face Assessment. He was totally surprised by the first psychiatrist selected, who in spite of his high qualifications ignored the family history he painfully collected, telling the medical student’s problems came from witnessing as a child, the abuse father inflicted on the mother. With no desire to see him again, Peter met another psychiatrist who was extremely interested to hear about his family history. She told him, he definitely has a Depressive Illness, however, the family history increased the risk of developing Bipolar Disorder. After discussing the various treatment options, they decided on a trial with an antidepressant.  A week into the medication, Peter woke up from sleep feeling more energetic than usual, a natural high, and asked himself if the medicine hit the target earlier than intended. He learnt from the new psychiatrist, his diagnosis now was Bipolar 2 and she told him to discontinue the antidepressant, as it could make his condition worse.Meena got perplexed hearing about Peter’s new diagnosis and began to worry about her future with a seriously mentally ill person. Grabbing an offer that came from New York Presbyterian to do neurology clerkship, she moved to the Big Apple, on the pretense to be closer to her parents. Devastated Peter took an overdose. It took a while for him to recover.Couple of months later, Peter received an unexpected phone call from Meena – Her father, a neurosurgeon was in coma after a plane accident that happened on a business trip - Mother had a nervous breakdown. Meena begged him to come to New York and help her. Father died soon after his arrival. Mother showed signs of improvement only after receiving ECT.Father’s sudden death and mother’s illness shook up the daughter. She returned to St Louis to finish the school year and prepare for graduation. Peter was accepted to the residency program in psychiatry at the University. His main interest was to do research and wished Meena would take up residency in psychiatry as well and be part of his research team. However, she was into the neurology residency. One Sunday afternoon, after church Peter and Meena decided to take a stroll through the Saint Louis botanical garden. It was a beautiful day and a gentle breeze made it feel even better. They sat on a bench, close together, in the Japanese section and watched the people passing by. She chose this moment to reveal her secret, “Pete, I have a surprising news for you. I just found a slot open in psychiatry. Someone from overseas cannot make it. I have been promised it.”

  • - Games In The Street
    av Leonard Marks
    299,-

This is the city tourists don''t see and most New Yorkers - the ones with jobs, the ones with money, the ones who own homes - don''t even know about. It''s the city where the hookers and pimps and strippers live and survive, where the predators exist and prey on the rest of us and on each other, the city where violence is commonplace and nearly always present. It''s midtown Manhattan where visitors come to see shows and eat in fancy restaurants and sleep in expensive hotels but it''s also where the furnished rooms and SRO''s are, where the chicken hawks work the streets and docks, where weapons are always close to hand and the police write off murders and assaults. It''s the world of John Board and John Puddle and others like them. This is the seventh in an exciting and almost unbelievable series of books about life in the underbelly of New York City, a place populated by strippers and pimps, prostitutes and predators. The author was a New York State parole officer for thirty years and lived the life he writes about. His characters come alive, their problems become your problems and their adventures will be felt and experienced by you. The story is told by a man who barely survives each day but does manage to do so. He is violent but some people depend on him and trust him with their lives. It''s a book that you will probably have difficulty putting down and may read more than once.

The Biscuit & Timely Tales offers short stories about time—as in running out of time, wasting time as the meter keeps running, and going back in time, as in dream time. Author T. L. Needham also presents poems that, like a helium-filled balloon, tug at the string of your imagination. The collection begins with THE BISCUIT—a story about the times when you do the wrong thing for the right reasons and then the right thing for the wrong reasons—and ends with THE RING, which describes traveling with spirits in the car…and not the kind of spirits you drink! These two stories frame short prose with broader themes based on growth and enlightenment, life, death, and the spirit world. The Biscuit & Timely Tales eloquently nudges us to learn to listen to the whispered guidance of spirit friends and family guiding us along the path we are destined to follow on our mission of discovery.

Initiated primarily from the fear fact that all those vast funds out there whenever made available; meaning ready to be allocated to supposed or genuine lifesaving projects in less developed countries in those part of our world, will end up for the majority of cases squandered with no guilt of any kind from none of the parties involved in it. So, why, and how then this different kind of book can be a useful one for partners in any given project per se? Verily, after having been a constant watchful recipient about project funding subject from the field and having accumulated a sound experience for such a long period, it has appeared to me like a personal duty to release my modest contribution to all parties involved in any project, for now, hoping that as the first of its kind, this book can awaken from the fact only both funders and recipients. By genuinely attempting to show to all partners in project funding how to preserve funded projects around the third world particularly, that should at the same time open up a global debate that would ultimately lead us to more sustainable projects.

A passion for life and learning exemplified the short career of one of the best American portrait artists of recent times. Florence McNeil Hardy started from the Kansas plains and, by her college days, was developing into an extraordinarily talented artist, winning an international competition while in college. She continued training at the Kansas City Art Institute and at the prestigious Art Student's League of New York, finally settling in Monahans, Texas, where most of her portraits were done. Her portraits won first place and/or best of show at major exhibitions all over the United States. Many of her paintings, including some that won exhibits, "Jane's Stormy," "Asyrian," "Kellen's Child," "Dark Canyon," and "Adeline Kennard" and others, have not been found. And, there is a mystery about her painting, "Girl in Pink"; who is she? Retirement brought Florence and her family to northwestern Arkansas, settling at Winton Springs in Pea Ridge. Florence did only six landscapes in Arkansas, all at our new home at Winton Springs; there are no portraits known from her brush after leaving Texas. About a year later on her wedding anniversary, April 15, 1955, Florence died of a massive heart attack.

    309,-

Some churches are reluctant to deal with issues involving heterosexuality or homosexuality.  Perhaps their ministers and leadership do not have the necessary training needed to relate to people struggling with sexual issues especially involving homosexuality, transgenderism and pedophilia.  This novel illustrates what happens when a Christian ministry tries to help individuals with these problems.  In the course of doing so there is the risk of harassment, injury or death.Through prayer, group support and the studying of the Bible many individuals can change or modify their self perception and their behaviors.  If anyone requires mental health specialization, then he or she is referred to the medical professionals. Otherwise, there still continues to be a spiritual component to overcoming one's unwanted same sex attraction or gender confusion.
