The high incidence of severe and profound hearing loss, the increase in life expectancy, hearing loss detection programs, the dissemination of the benefits of cochlear implants and the improvements in social coverage, generated an increase in the number of cochlear implant users and encouraged the creation of teams of professionals specialized in this field. On the other hand, the constant technological advances achieved by the manufacturers of implantable hearing devices demand a permanent updating by professionals. That is why the idea of creating this book arose, which is intended for those audiologists who are starting or are in their first years of programming. It aims to share audiological information on the current management of Cochlear R cochlear implants in order to maximize the quality of the information provided and promote the use of the devices. The transport of oil and hazardous and noxious substances by sea is a global problem in that it affects the safety of human life, the safety of navigation, the integrity of property and interests (ships, cargoes and freight) and the preservation of the marine environment and its animal and mineral wealth. It is therefore clear that this industry is potentially dangerous and creates casualties located either at sea or on land. The primary, and at the same time ultimate, objective is SAFETY. To address and achieve this we turn to technology, navigational science, naval architecture and legislation. Legislation arises in the domestic order and international production, being its framework very broad: administrative, planning and police, civil and commercial, criminal and environmental, coexisting Public Law with Private Law, that is to say, State intervention and the autonomy of contracts.

The research work presents a review and bibliographic analysis of gender violence against women, as it is a problem that affects the whole of society and occurs at all levels and in all social contexts. As it is a social problem and as it damages legal assets such as the life, physical and psychological integrity, patrimony and economy of women, and given the high rates of violence against women, international organisations have established that States must establish a legal procedure to comply with their duties to prevent, investigate and punish all types of violence against women. Although through the application of Law 348, mechanisms have been established for prevention, protection and care, the State has not applied scientific criteria to improve the treatment of women victims of violence, nor has it raised awareness, raised awareness and trained all public servants in a formal and serious manner.

The generation of waste from the construction industry, a reflection of population growth, changing habits and intense consumption, has been a cause of great concern to the world, since natural resources are finite and nature cannot absorb the exorbitant production of waste generated by society. In the city of Manaus, environmental problems, especially those related to construction, are no different from the rest of Brazil. The rubber boom at the end of the 19th century and the establishment of the Free Trade Zone in the 1960s were responsible for the growing population migration to the capital, thus boosting the growth of the construction industry and the generation of its waste. The aim of this book is to demonstrate the current scenario of construction waste management in the city of Manaus, from the perspective of sustainability, based on data collected from the Secretariats and public administration bodies, through bibliographies, as well as on construction sites, verifying the current situation of the final destination of construction waste, and what sustainability practices have been adopted.

Humans are constituted as social beings on the basis of the interactions that we weave in coexistence with otherness. Man is a permanent generator of imaginaries, concepts and practices that enable the enrichment and transformation of democratic life; his experiences are the result of the various relationships within the social collective. From his daily experiences in the context to which he belongs, man builds culture. Both in its origin and in its material and energetic bases, man identifies himself not only with the rest of the living beings, but also with the physical elements of the environment. This work brings together a set of essays, which are articulated around the discussion on the need for interaction and integration of issues related to education and its contributions to the development of culture for coexistence in democracy, deployed in humanised environmental scenarios.

Citrus fruit is harvested at the start of ripening to maximize shelf life and marketability. However, prolonged storage of apples exposes them to a variety of ailments, which may be physiological in origin, often linked to cold, or parasitic in origin, essentially fungal diseases.A physiological study of the effect of two culture media on the development of four fungal species (Penicillium italicum, Penicillium digitatum, Aspergillus niger and Acremonium sp.) isolated from rotting citrus fruit during storage showed that the MEA and PDA media were favorable to the development of these fungi. On PDA medium, mycelial growth is maximal at 20°C. The antifungal power of the two essential oils tested in vitro was broad-spectrum, with very strong antifungal activity on the diametral growth of pathogens responsible for citrus fruit rot.

University teaching, all over the world, is in the process of development and change, which is the reason why a series of researches have been carried out in order to improve the learning level of university students. However, most of the researches are very general, since they do not consider specific subjects, so that the contributions of these works do not allow determining the causes of the cognitive learning levels obtained by university students in a certain subject; reason for which the need to investigate the factors that influence the level of cognitive learning arises. In the present book, Bloom's New Taxonomy is applied to the teaching of Physics. The book is divided into three chapters. In Chapter I, Bloom's Taxonomy is presented. Chapter II develops Bloom's New Taxonomy, also called Bloom's Taxonomy Revised (Anderson and Krathwohl, 2001) and concludes with the definition of basic terms. Chapter III presents the application of Bloom's New Taxonomy to Physics teaching. Finally, references and appendices are included.

The research was carried out following the "Six Sigma" methodology; for this purpose, a detailed analysis of the lumber production process was made, including production from the forest to lumber storage. With the help of descriptive statistics, the causes that generated the problem of low yields and poor wood quality, performance parameters and process capacity were identified. For this purpose, tools such as: baseline, cause-effect analysis, Pareto diagram, time and motion study, quality and yield study and Six Sigma analysis were used. It was determined that the production process was defined by the following parameters: the standard production time was 783.5 minutes per production cycle, 34% of the sawn timber was affected by various defects, yields of 229.7 pt/m3 and a sigma level of 2.4. Based on the causes of the problem and analysis of the results, a combined improvement was implemented in the primary sawmilling process and in the storage area.

The work of nurses, according to Leopardi, Gelbeck and Ramos, 2012, is characterised by four dimensions: direct care for individuals or groups, from conception to death; educational dimensions, consisting of professional training, continuing education and health education processes with users; administrative/managerial dimensions, coordinating and organising nursing work and participating in health care management; investigative dimensions, producing knowledge to support and guide care, management and health education processes. Various factors influence the suffering of nursing professionals, such as work overload, excessive working hours, overcrowded care units, devaluation of the profession, constant work with suffering and pain, among others. Nursing demands attention and a more humane approach to nursing professionals is needed.

Cryptogenic cirrhosis represents the final stage of some occult chronic liver diseases, with NASH being one of the main underlying diseases responsible for these cases. Some studies have looked for an association between cryptogenic cirrhosis and NASH by comparing the "metabolic profile" of the two groups, emphasizing diabetes mellitus and obesity. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of risk factors for NASH in patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis in Porto Alegre, southern Brazil, in order to establish a possible causal relationship. The study was carried out at the ISCMPA Gastroenterology Department between 2008 and 2010. It was concluded that, in assessing the possible etiological relationship between NASH and cryptogenic cirrhosis, the results allow an inference to be made, since a concordance was found in the glycemic profile and a difference between the mean age, suggesting a time necessary for the progression of the disease.

One of the most recurrent themes in the history of philosophy is to rethink democracy, especially at times when its pillars are on sand platforms, in which sustaining itself is a major problem. Reality has shown and demonstrated that democracy as we know it is in a great crisis of foundations, values and theoretical/practical articulations. Participation and active discernment is a sine qua non condition for the legitimization of democracy. Such a democratic society could be conceived as one where citizens have access to the means and knowledge by which they can defend their rights against their leaders, and in the same way can make proposals for the development of society. However, contemporaneity brings with it new ways of interpreting the needs and public wills with which these rights can be defended. Thus, the notion of citizen is reinvented in order to approach the real-valid today. The research is a critical reading of several texts, qualitative and of philosophical hermeneutic cut, used in a critical way.

The work I am writing the prologue to is, from my point of view, the most consistent effort of orientation to criminological praxis that I have seen in the last decades in Central America, and its prolix research is only the prolegomenon to a definitive and urgent proposal in our countries, to make possible a crime prevention close to the community and within it. Where the problem of crime and the transgressor is seen in a broader context of inequity and social inequality, integration and social reintegration and commitment to the human person. These elements alone make this work mandatory reading for politicians when the dismay of the "pro-victim" speeches are fed today by the stentorian cries of zero tolerance, the alleged impunity of the Judiciary and the need for "shock measures" against the phenomenon of crime.

Interculturality is considered by Ecuadorian professor and activist researcher Catherine Walsh to be a concept formulated and loaded with meaning, mainly by the Ecuadorian indigenous movement from the 1980s onwards. The educational policies promoted by indigenous peoples, NGOs and the state from this period onwards aimed to establish national policies of plurilingualism and multiethnicity. The change from the term "bicultural bilingual education", used at the time, to "Intercultural Bilingual Education - IBE", was proposed with the aim of recognizing the integrative, global, historical and dynamic nature of culture, which results in the condition that a human collectivity never becomes bicultural, but rather is capable of including new forms and contents as new living conditions and needs require. Thus, this work seeks to make a contribution to the area of language acquisition, in the sense of understanding and proposing alternatives for implementing intercultural competence in the process of teaching and learning English in Brazilian early childhood education, by proposing to observe the social and cultural contrasts implicit in the curricula of this area.

The present work is oriented to the chemical analysis of the seeds of Anadenathera peregrina or Piptadenia peregrina, commonly known as Yopo among the Amerindian communities and peoples of Southern Venezuela, specifically in Amazonas, and to determine its implications in Forensic Toxicology. Dimethyltryptamine, an alkaloid with hallucinogenic properties, was obtained, generating a pattern to be able to make comparisons in the field of Forensic Toxicology with blood samples and gastric content, through analytical methodologies such as ultraviolet spectrophotometry and thin layer chromatography. The result of the analysis is cold and pragmatic, not reflecting the administrative processes overcome to obtain the forensic samples, leaving a full experience of knowledge related to Forensic Medicine, Forensic Toxicology, Physical and Social Anthropology, Amazonian indigenous Cosmogony. Hoping that the reader will find in this writing a path that will guide him to his goals.
