When we realize the need to be more competitive in a dynamic market, understanding the value of what we produce is essential so that we can optimize every cost and make our product even more valuable and important to our customers. In this way, Value Stream Mapping applied to the Plastic Packaging industry demonstrates the results obtained through the study of a product family. Bearing in mind that VSM presented very satisfactory results, it is worth remembering that this tool can be applied to any business segment as long as everyone involved is engaged. The author continues to improve his studies on the subject.

This book is an overview of our bats, for children, where common names, scientific names, descriptions, feeding, distribution and conservation are detailed. It is profusely illustrated with full color drawings, as well as distribution maps in Cuba. The field guides constitute a form of scientific popularization, already classic in the world literature of natural sciences, devised so that the amateurs have the means in the quick identification, in field conditions, of a particular group of animals, of a determined country or region. Obviously, they are characterized by an appreciable predominance of illustrations at the expense of the text. Works of this type are in great demand among the population. The author is a specialist in the study and conservation of Cuban bats.

The aim of this study was to verify, identify, analyse and propose a revision of the Fire Prevention and Combat Plan (PPCI) for the Axel Gomes Building, improving the performance of the most critical locations, taking into account the existing infrastructure and compliance with the standards in force during the process for issuing the Inspection Certificate from the Minas Gerais Fire Department - AVCB. This analysis was carried out through a case study, taking into account the legislation in force (decrees, provisional measures, legislation, technical standards and technical instructions from the Minas Gerais Fire Department) and the current context. Based on the perspective of prevention, this work aims to make a contribution by diagnosing and analysing the safety conditions of a multi-family building, proposing some interventions that are necessary to improve the safety of this building.

This paper explores the personality dynamics of online role-playing video game players, focusing on the following aspects: self-perception, identification and ideals, introversion-extroversion, motivations and interpersonal relationships, in order to better understand the experiences and influences that this kind of video games have on the lives of gamers. In order to achieve this objective, the following instruments were applied to a sample: MMPI-2, self-concept questionnaire AF5, Karen Machover's human figure test and a Semi-Structured Interview. By evaluating the results it was possible to investigate the interactions that players develop within the community of these games, providing and expanding relevant information regarding the dynamics of personality and noting that people experience a fantastic life through the characters in the game, suggesting that the choice of the same determines and reveals elements of its functionality, generating identifications and projections whose purpose is to compensate and realise their idealised aspirations linked to their characters and roles exercised in the game.

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is one of the Lean Production tools that has been widely discussed in the literature for mapping production and service processes with a focus on reducing waste and non-value added time. Despite the growing number of publications on the subject, there is a lack of systematic research presenting the state of the art. Therefore, this book, through a literature review, aims to gather information on the VSM in order to identify its main characteristics, trends and opportunities. The review includes 263 abstracts and 91 selected articles. The study proposes a synthesis, in the form of a framework, which presents how VSM is adopted in certain contexts and motivations, outlining a better understanding of how the tool is implemented and the respective outputs and results that can be generated. This book is aimed at managers, engineers, administrators, consultants and students who work or wish to work in the area of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

To make it easier to understand, we have written a general section for each chapter. This book has not been produced for commercial purposes, but to help teachers and coaches responsible for promoting swimming. Its aim is far more modest: to make non-specialists aware, in a pedagogical way, of the main teaching and training methods for a group of beginner swimmers. It does not aim to cover and analyze, in an exhaustive way, all the characteristics and particularities of teaching this sport.

Brazilian education today is questioning itself, seeking essential answers to solve the important role of managers in the face of the difficulties presented by political and social issues and the interests of those who hold the power of financial resources to promote better quality education and professional training. Thus, faced with the financial difficulties experienced by the current Brazilian reality, managers are faced with the challenge of adapting to the high demands of supervisory bodies and society. The research was carried out in the mesoregion of the state of Pará, with a sample of 20 managers from private institutions, meeting the inclusion criteria using an objective questionnaire and quantified using the Linkert scale.

The order Lepidoptera is a good tool for conservation biology, as it is sensitive to environmental variations. They also play an important role in many pollination processes and make up important trophic levels in the food chain. They are important in ecosystems due to their interactions with vegetation and fauna. The aim of this study was to determine the families of butterflies (Lepidoptera) in Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) along the BR-116 motorway, from Mafra to Papanduva, SC. Collections took place from March to September, with a sampling effort of 27 hours. A total of 138 individuals belonging to ten families were recorded. It was observed that APP km 031 + 815 showed the greatest diversity, with seven families (Acracidae, Danaidae, Heliconidae, Morphoidae, Nymphalidae, Pieridae, Satyridae). The APPs km 026 + 780 and km 061 + 925 had the lowest diversity, with only one family recorded (Saturidae). In the APPs surveyed there were butterflies from the families Acracidae, Danaidae, Hesperiidae, Heliconidae, Lycaenidae, Morphoidae, Nymphalidae, Pieridae, Riodinidae and Satyridae.

Environmental Ethics represents a representative starting point for the construction of contemporary environmental characterisations; mainly in Latin America. This refers to a re-evaluation of environmental ethics. In this sense, it is important to analyse this perspective from the alternatives proposed in the face of the problems and challenges that today occupy eco-environmentalist philosophy. Being always implies a becoming together with others; therefore, all actions with others is a reciprocal doing; this refers to an essential ethical principle if we wish to organise humanising ways of life. Environmental ethics refers to a series of epistemological elements, among them: ecocentric principle, subject-object relationship, environmental complexity, rationality, interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity and environmental interpretation, which represent the backbone of the strategies proposed in the face of contemporary eco-environmental urgencies. The aim is to sustain existence in conditions that reproduce justice and equity as inherent assets of life.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the main trends in migrant remittance flows to developing countries from 1990 to 2009. Specifically, it seeks to analyse the direction and size of these flows, as well as their relationship with migratory flows and economic fluctuations during the period. To do this, a descriptive analysis was carried out based on data from the World Bank, specifically the Migration and Remittances Factbook 2011 and the Balance of Payments of the countries, published annually by the International Monetary Fund.

With constant technological advances and the emergence of distance learning in the second half of the 20th century, various areas of our society have undergone changes, especially in education. This new constant need for the democratisation of knowledge and continuing training, combined with the use of information and communication technologies, is making it possible to increase access to education significantly. However, in order for distance learning to be more meaningful, it is necessary to have well-designed materials, as they are the main interaction between the course centre (tutor, teacher) and the student, regardless of the form in which they appear: video, CD, text, internet, etc. With this in mind, this book aims to create the conditions for education professionals to develop materials for distance learning courses using Chamilo, a virtual learning environment that makes it easier for distance learning professionals to manage teaching materials and publish them on the World Wide Web.

The aim of this paper is to present the concepts and definitions of the main types of deep foundations and their implications for civil engineering, with reference to the requirements of current standards. Subsequently, the case study of the Strauss pile construction process, located in the municipality of Barbacena/MG, will be presented. We will then highlight the characteristics that make the use of Strauss piling feasible and its concepts, presenting the executive method that was technically monitored through visual inspections. Based on this, the study analyses the entire Strauss pile construction process, discusses the problems of execution errors based on the prescriptions of technical standards and presents systematic and rational solutions for its construction process. The results analysed point to a significant improvement in the productive and economic aspects of the execution stage, highlighting the importance of good supervision of the execution of Strauss piles, as well as the importance of the design, execution and supervision standards for Strauss-type deep foundations.

Mozambique has shown impressive economic growth and a declining poverty rate over the last 20 years, but 46% of the population still lives in poverty. The unequal availability of basic services, especially in health and education, and the obstacles to sustainable employment are at the root of this economic disparity. Social policies focused on combating poverty have therefore been adopted with the aim of reducing this evil. It is within the framework of these efforts that in the 2011 financial year, the government allocated 140 million Meticais to PERPU, covering municipalities and provincial capital cities. This study focuses on the Strategic Program for the Reduction of Urban Poverty (PERPU), with the general aim of understanding its contribution to improving the living conditions of mayors living in Quelimane. However, it is clear that the situation of poverty in the communities does not seem to have been resolved, given the high levels of deprivation that certain urban families have been experiencing (not having access to basic quality public services and not being able to satisfy them by other means due to lack of financial capacity).

Organisations operate in an increasingly complex environment, constantly subject to various types of pressure, both internal and external. Public organisations are part of this scenario, and are increasingly being asked to deliver better performance as a result of efficient management mechanisms for their obligations. With the evolution in the use of computers and the media, new forms of state-society relationship models have been defined that are increasingly based on new information and communication technologies - ICTs. These technologies therefore have the potential to build a new relationship between government and citizens, as it is assumed that they can enable a more efficient, democratic and transparent public administration. It is in this context that e-governance emerges, encompassing citizens' involvement with the government by electronic means, allowing society to have a free say in government actions.

The book highlights the growing importance of mobile telemedicine systems, particularly for patients far from healthcare facilities. It describes a project focused on the development of an ECG signal acquisition board, with chapters covering various technical and practical aspects, such as cardiology fundamentals, Java technologies and the implementation of specific components. The project provided expertise in programming and understanding cardiac activities, despite the practical challenges encountered. Future prospects include detecting arrhythmias and improving alerts for cardiac anomalies, as well as exploring GPRS transmission for data processing.

The chosen topic is quite relevant, because the peculiarity of functioning of many enterprises in modern conditions is their constant dependence on all subjects of the totality of the common infrastructure. Enterprises in the process of production and economic activity constantly enters into direct and indirect relationships with suppliers of raw materials, components, consumers of finished products and competitors. The latter, proceeding from the goal of any enterprise - to create its consumer, try to strengthen their position in the market, thereby weakening the position of other enterprises. It is economic growth that is the goal and indicator of sustainability and efficiency of the enterprise in the long term. With the right impact on the factors of economic growth and their proper balance in the enterprise, the uniform development and expansion of the organization is ensured.

The postulate established by theorists interested in contributing to transformations in Portuguese language teaching, according to which the text should be the basic unit of teaching, underlies the understanding that the systematic study of the structural levels of language is a dispensable task when it comes to developing reading and writing skills. Given this conception, the questions that motivate the research are the following: i) since the text is a structure made up of several levels, is it really unnecessary to develop systematic teaching-learning processes at these levels when it comes to building reading and writing skills? And what space does the study of the syntactic level occupy in the proposals of linguists, theorists and official curriculum guidelines? Based on the assumption that these questions divide the opinions of researchers and teachers, this research presents and discusses the syntactic structure of the Portuguese language, highlighting its contributions to the construction of textual structuring processes and meaning in reading and writing.

Recently, the global demand for fuel ethanol has been expanding very rapidly, and almost all fuel ethanol is produced by fermenting sucrose in Brazil or corn glucose in the United States, but these raw materials will not be enough to satisfy international demand. Agro-industrial lignocellulosic residues, such as cashew bagasse, sugarcane bagasse, soybean hulls, etc., are abundant and low-cost sources for the biotechnological production of compounds with high added value, such as ethanol. In this context, the aim of this work was to evaluate the production of bioethanol from cashew stalk bagasse. To this end, the material was initially characterized in order to assess its cellulose and lignin content.

A virtual place where, through the use of avatars, people can meet, get to know different people, visit places like museums and historic cities, talk and learn. This study presents the current scenario of the Microsoft Kinect human-computer interface and introduces it as the main means of interaction between man and machine applied in a 3D virtual world.

In contemporary times, the context of healthy eating occupies a great deal of space, especially in the social media, being propagated as a lifestyle to be adopted. Eating out has grown in recent years due to a demand for practicality, although most meals are still eaten at home. From this point of view, the literature has focused on Moringa oleifera Lam. due to its nutritional and pharmacological potential. Moringa oleifera Lamarck or Moringa pterygosperma Gaertner, is a leguminous plant belonging to the Moringaceae family, popularly known in Brazil as moringa, white lily or okra. M. oleifera contains essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, as well as omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Consuming moringa leaves is a strategy that can guarantee prevention and protection against various diseases, as well as boosting the body's intake of essential nutrients.

Inspired by studies in Cultural Geography, this paper presents the results of a study interested in outlining the importance of Fieldwork in Geography for the training of geographers and the circumstances surrounding this methodology in contemporary times. Considering the purposes of this study, we identified the main data from the Boletim Paulista de Geografia (No. 84), which points us towards reflecting on the similarities in the discussions that figure as theoretical-methodological subsidies on Fieldwork in/for Geography. The themes and concepts collected indicate that, despite the plurality of experiences in Fieldwork, it remains under constant construction, evolving and constituting itself in accordance with the very construction of geographical science, thus allowing us to advance in the analysis of Fieldwork in Cultural Geography, that is, the systematization of humanistic ideas and their applicability in Fieldwork. To this end, the "Postal Geography" project will be proposed as a way of showcasing fieldwork experiences in Geography.
