Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole are recognized for their heroism in the Crimean War. Little is known about how these ordinary girls from very different cultural and economic backgrounds became extraordinary women leaders. The book describes the significance and intersection of race, class, and gender as necessary contributors to their development and recognition as nursing leaders. The stories are timeless, universal, and inspirational for aspiring and emerging leaders and for fostering inclusivity in professions.

The author began writing songs and poems at an early age while growing up on a farm in rural Southeastern Kentucky. Elementary and high school teachers encouraged her writing, as did her college professors in later years. Throughout her career, this writing talent was effectively utilized for the benefit of both her own career and for her employers. While material for the poetry often came from personal experiences and feelings, poems were also written based on expressed feelings and experiences of other people. Often, friends and family would request that she write a special poem for them which would portray their own life experiences. Some poems were just written from an idea that came to mind so rapidly that the words were written in shorthand to be transcribed later. The author feels very blessed to have the writing talent and to have the opportunity to share this talent with others.

Synopsis of trademarkI chose to model the uhuru sasa, trademark in the shape of an unfinished hive. The hive in it's undeveloped stage is the underlining nucleus of the uhuru sasa. Acronym: unionizing human beings to become universal role models through up-tempo stanzas and standard acoustics.I chose to model the uhuru sasa trademark after the hymenopteran--the honeybee--not because we tend to associate the bee with economic commerce but because the bee, like all hymenopterans, develop through four distinctive stages--egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Our beliefs at the uhuru sasa poet's society is that writer's too develop and nurture their literary skills through distinctive stages as well. It is our belief that a tree has to first become nascent in the mind before its branches can produce fruit! We incorporate and exemplify this belief through our literary curriculums, as well as through the mission and purpose of our logo and trademark, uhuru sasa!

she was unexpected. part strips of paper, part shards of glass, she was a delicate step between two very different yet familiar fragile edges. the contrast between the two is comparable to the vastly differing interpretations of the color yellow. on one hand, it can represent deceit and betrayal while on the other hand, it may symbolize optimism and joy. it can be intense and bold, pointed and piercing. or like the stripes on a winding back road, it can change our mood and calm us down.we are not defined by our circumstances but by our choices. in this book, you will encounter and endure the hurt and the healing those choices can create. from the author of vulnerable beauty comes the story of one that could easily be that of many. through vibrant and raw poetry, experience one woman's transformation from broken to brave. from the infatuation of a new relationship, the damage caused by abuse and the regret it festers, to finally finding true love and an even more genuine acceptance of herself, she chooses her worth over her worry. it does not happen overnight but with every turn of the page.perhaps you will find yourself in her story and see that even if knocked down, there is always a bottom from which to push off and rise. often, what is perceived as final simply becomes a new beginning. if by several miles or only one step at a time, she moves forward, trusting and believing in little yellow promises.

Ever since the partition of the Indian subcontinent on August 15, 1947, into India and Pakistan, the erstwhile country of Punjab (the Indian-Punjab) has been occupied and colonized by India. A process of alien subjugation, domination, and exploitation of the Sikh state that began with the British colonization continues under the Republic of India. India is not only using Punjab's land and resources for itself but has also proceeded to destroy Sikh national, religious, linguistic, and cultural identity. The carving up of Punjab's territory, the diversion of its key economic resources, the denial of religious freedom, the violation of fundamental civil and political rights of its people, and the regular pogroms on Sikh communities and holy sites across India demonstrate Sikh subjugation, domination, and exploitation by India. There has been a long history of discrimination, political treachery, and phony negotiations that resulted in repression, persecution, and unspeakable tortures of the Sikhs since 1947. Indian Army's invasion (Operation Blue Star) of Darbar Sahib in June 1984 and the Sikh genocide in November 1984 all over India tell the story of the existential threat to Sikhs in India. There has been a terrible tale of tortures and ruthless extrajudicial killing of Sikhs. The Sikhs have realized that the reestablishment of the independence of Punjab is their only option. This book describes the Sikh struggle for freedom and justice and their resolve and determination to achieve this goal by the exercise of their fundamental right to self-determination.
