"Letters from Wankie" is a unique true story based on the collection of some 500 air letters the author, British-born Patricia Friedberg, wrote home to England in the mid-1950s, during the first two years of her marriage to her South African physician husband. Together the newlyweds moved to the remote mining town of Wankie in the far northwest corner of Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) where he was employed as a colliery doctor. More than 50 years later, after her mother passed away, Patricia found among her mother's papers the bundle of air letters neatly tied and safely stored. Reading through the collection it was evident that the letters contained an incredible, historical account of life during the colonial years as seen through the eyes and writings of a young woman, twenty years of age, who was, unbelievably, even to herself, employed as Clerk of the Court at the Native Commissioner's Office. Despite the enormous cultural differences the young Londoner faced -- the challenging and often shocking exposure to tribal practices and native law -- she carried on, overcoming obstacles with spunk and grit and a saving sense of humor. PRAISE FOR "LETTERS FROM WANKIE" "A gorgeous, touching, tragic tale of a lost -- but now, thanks to Patricia Friedberg -- never forgotten time in a remote corner of colonial Africa." --Douglas Rogers, "New York Times" journalist and author of "The Last Resort: A Memoir of Zimbabwe" ". . . a delightful account of a plucky young woman who takes things as they come and makes the best of them. She effectively uses the device of letters to home . . . Patricia's 'voice' made me smile all through her account . . . like listening to a charming tale told by a good friend . . . a friend you have known forever. Well done!" --Georgia Court, owner, Bookstore 1, Sarasota "What an adventure! I loved this book! I could not stop reading this honestly portrayed, exhilarating account . . . Filled with humour and astute wry observations, this is a delightful trip into the past . . . a valuable slice of history that documents an era now washed away, an insight into a country which was once the jewel of Africa, and now is in ruins." --Paul Williams, Ph.D., author of "Soldier Blue" "An inspiring -- and most satisfying read." --Joan Kufrin, author of "Uncommon Women" and "Leo Burnett, Star-Reacher" ". . . mental scenery that is thought-provoking, instructs and entertains. Exceedingly well done and a pleasure to read." --Marilyn Pincus, bestselling author, ghostwriter and member of the Authors Guild, New York, NY

About four years ago, I was walking along a boardwalk that helps park goers traverse a beautiful floodplain in one of our city's metro parks. I was watching where I was stepping and not paying attention to my surroundings. For some reason, I stopped looking down and I looked to my left. Staring at me, probably no more than ten yards away, was a huge buck. Here's the weird thing: the first thought I had was, Does he know it's Tuesday? Subsequent quirky ideas popped into my head: Does he go on vacations? Is he thinking of retirement? What if our animal friends thought and acted more like we humans? Wouldn't that be a hoot? I hope these 114 quirkies bring some smiles and laughter into your life.

This book is a sneak peek into my life enlisting as an active-duty member in the United States Air Force. It shares many personal moments as I, at the same time, transitioned into being a single parent. It also gives a positive faith-filled outlook on situations that I have faced over the last twenty years of my life while choosing to be victorious rather than a victim over the things I could not control. My ultimate goal is to plant a seed of hope and joy in others facing similar issues.

In Walking Miracles I talk about the traumas that formed my life and made me who I am today. I chose to write about my trauma and bring it to the world as a means to help others who are going through the same thing. This book is a collection of short stories and poems as well as letters from my abuser, which outline the story of my traumas. In here I created a character known as Grace Hope, who undergoes a lot of challenges against a serial rapist, and in the end she became a symbol of my trauma and how I was able to defeat it despite all the challenges that were thrown at her. In Walking Miracles you will come to an understanding of your own self-worth, as I talk about how I was nothing and meant something more. In here I lost people, dealt with an abusive partner, lived through a physical illness that was undiagnosed for twenty years, and almost gave up hope to the world. Yet I also found the true meaning to life and became closer to those that know me. I hope when you read Walking Miracles, some part of it will stay with you for a lifetime.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is a story told by three sisters that takes place in a small community in Ellisville, Mississippi, in the Jones County--also known as the Free State of Jones. It begins with the birth of their mother and her siblings through their adulthood and departure from Mississippi. The center of the story was their mother and the life and time of being her children. She married at the age of seventeen. After finishing the eighth grade, she contemplated becoming a teacher, which was the requirement at that time for being an educator, but she decided that she would teach her own children. And that she did.It has taken almost four years to write this book including the time that they took thinking and talking about it. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly reveals the joys, the tragedies, heartaches, family miracles, disappointments, pains and tears, and southern racism. It spans almost one hundred years, and for them, from what they've heard, seen, and experienced, they were worth putting into words.A lot of this information came from their mother as they would sit and talk. Along with the conversations that the sisters had with everyday life, it was out of these situations that they decided to write this book. Every family has a story, and this is theirs. This book is meant to be a dedication as well as a salutation to each and every member of their family along with close friends and in memory of all those loved ones who had gone before them. Because without them, there would be no good, no bad, and no ugly. It is a southern story.Although a lot of things happened, the coolest and greatest thing besides knowing all of these special people is that they are their family.

Michael, I'm calling your space just to say that from just visualizing you, it's been so long. I'm not sure if I was looking at a little girl's sweet, tender, unique handwriting on a special private drawing with your name somewhere on the picture. It could have been on a poster somewhere stapled as some type of advertisement or perhaps in a magazine or on TV. Wherever it was at that particular moment, I became a serious dreamer. All of a sudden, my entire interest changed....

If all hope is lost, where do you turn?At the lowest point of her life, Penny Blue North decided to give up. She gave up trying to control all the circumstances of her life, to do everything with perfection, to stave off pain, entropy, and death. Without a deity or mythology to count on, she spread her plea to the wider universe: "Send me a message. I don't care what or how." She awoke in the middle of the night, sitting straight up in bed, with these words before her: The message is love. Everything changed after that, and this book is the message. The lessons within are simple and obvious. They also can be the most difficult things we do. Maybe there's something for your soul in this book too.

I wrote this book to show what a great job caddieing is and the many opportunities it affords. It's a life-changing job. If done right by the caddie master, this can open doors to the caddies that never would have happened in other jobs. As a caddie master, I would set up the caddie to put them in the right situation. If the young caddie wanted to be an actor, lawyer, or car salesman or work on Wall Street, you would have them caddie for the members or guests that best suits their future ambitions. It's like a working interview. They can see how hard you work and how you interact with others and how professional you perform your job.As a caddie master, it is your absolute responsibility to inform the college-bound caddies of the caddie scholarship programs that are available. So hopefully, this book can inspire young kids into the great world of caddieing. It's a life changer!--Caddie Master Tim Peel

We all have dreams in our lives. To some of us, they may seem so far away, and yet they are within our grasp if we move forward with a positive attitude and hard work. We need to leave our comfort zone as we look to the future of our lives. In a kind of creation that is made for each of us. If we give in to negativity, the path we take along the way of life will be void of success. Your dream may be in plain sight. You need only realize what is meant to be. All of your hopes and dreams are waiting in the shadows, still to see the light of day.I have always been inspired by people, places, things, and situations. Inspiration comes in many forms. We need to find inspiration that fits our needs in thought and deed. We should always move forward in our daily lives and deal with the task at hand.At times, we need laughter in our lives. This is a given. Yet there comes a time to be profound to some degree as life is always interesting. May all that are reading my words never give up on his or her dreams. We all have goals in our lives. Never give in to negativity. We all have the power within us as we move forward with each new dream in each new day with the start of dawn into the last of the sun's rays. Whatever you dream, go for it.

It was a cold night when Allie went to the barn to see Miracle. Miracle always seemed to make Allie feel better. "Miracle, what am I supposed to do?" Miracle nudged Allie with her nose. "Miracle, please, I need your help. I never thought about being with a boy until later in life, but these feelings I have for Jake...I can't help it. I wonder if Jake feels the same way?" Miracle stomped her foot in frustration. "Oh, come on Miracle." "Allie?" Allie turned around in shock, for Jake was standing there. "Oh my God, how long have you been standing there and what did you hear?" "Well, I heard enough." Allie's face went beet red, she could not look at him. Allie could hear him getting closer until Jake was right in front of her. "Allie, listen please. I myself cannot stop these feelings and if you leave your family and friends that you love so much...have you really thought what it will do to them? Not even including me." Allie looked up into his eyes. "Allie, I would be so lost without you, you are part of me, my soul." Allie went to say something, but before she could, Jake's lips were on hers. A light came from deep down within her. Allie couldn't pull away even if she wanted. Jake slowly backed off, smiled and said "Does this kiss tell you all you need to know?" Jake turned and walked out of the barn...
