Geoff Kanofski is not a qualified psychologist. He was encumbered by symptoms of OCD, ADHD, and Tourette Syndrome. At age 33, he discovered how his disorders were functionally linked. This was the beginning of his understanding.Geoff then began to overcome his OCD, which increased his understanding. At 35, he no longer suffered with severe OCD. He then began full-time study. Hard work and tutoring allowed him to complete two years of pre-tertiary study. Then disability concessions enabled him to complete an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology. Eight years of full-time study increased his personal understanding (of this functional link). Then something happened that damaged Geoff's mind. He began to experience episodes of anger and sadness. Understanding how the functional link worked did not help his state of mind. His anger and sadness continued for a long time.At 55, Geoff found a way to heal his mind. His journey enabled him to understand the difference between the brain and mind. His autobiography explains this in fine detail. He finished writing this book when he was 64, and in his final chapter, he provides a hypothesis that is worthy of scientific research.

An anthology of reflections for Teachers dedicated to discipleship in the crucible of education - the classroom. These Christian reflections are derived from wide experience, speaking to the challenges facing Teachers - especially those committed to remaining as they were called. When facing pedagogical challenges, or reconciling polarities in curricula, these reflections can orient you to elements and essentials. Each reflection rests in the brilliance of Jesus' teaching, addressing controversial and confronting issues, as well as ways to cultivate blessing and happiness in your work, your calling. The collection is not a narrative, except insofar as every teacher's life is a narrative. Consistent themes are Christ the Leader, Christ the Teacher, Christ the Guide, pedagogy, valuing students, negotiating managerial and staffroom politics, classroom design and planning, foundations for curriculum, classroom management and discipline, practical designs for teaching and learning, spiritual warfare and how to navigate the difficulties which can antagonise all teachers. The spectrum of capacities required of teachers is extraordinary, because the work is both demanding and amazingly rewarding. Every part of every working day draws on your knowledge of pedagogy, your love for your students, your knowledge of the subjects you teach, your ability to maintain and coordinate multiple relationships - with both luminous and draining people. Being grounded in lived experience helps to make these useful; the working day for a teacher includes late nights of marking and preparation, meetings with parents and managers, school holidays appropriated as 'breaks' by careless administrators who want to control even much-needed rest. This is a book that is on your side, and understands the battles of a teacher's life. It is on your side, because Jesus is. He sees, He knows, He cares about what you are doing. The whole collection begins with the truth that Jesus is the greatest Teacher in the whole of history. Mary the Magdalene called Him 'Rabboni' - 'Master Teacher'.Utilise them in isolation, or in relation to other reflections. Each reflection has its own heading, which helps to identify its core focus. They are written to be helpful; it is my prayer and hope that as you pray and use them, the Holy Spirit will guide, accompany, and direct you. May their application enlarge the Kingdom, and extend the domain of Grace.

Wheels within Wheels is not about the wheels which drive your local bus, but the hidden wheels which have run Sydney's buses for many years:The wheels of politics - because transport has always been influenced by politicians, and not always for the right reasons. The wheels of money - because too often public funds have been spent on unworthy causes. But not all politicians made wrong decisions, and not all money invested in Sydney's buses was wasted.Wheels within Wheels is the history of how Sydney's bus services developed and changed over six decades, including the story of how one bus owner stood up to the government, won five court cases in a row and got the law changed.

Did you know there was a piano on the First Fleet? That the first convict artist was hanged for his trouble? That the first female author here started writing under a man's name? That the King owns the painting of our Federation? And did you know that there was a convict who wrote a dictionary of Australian slang? A man who was transported to Australia a record three times? And what about the world's first full-length feature film? Made in Australia, way back in 1906! These are just some of the many fascinating stories in Imagining Australia: a history of our nation through music, film, literature & art. The history of Australia is incredibly interesting. Often hilarious, sometimes infuriating. Especially when it is told by its artists. Writers, painters, musicians, filmmakers: they hold up a mirror and tell us who we are. They have done that from the start of white occupation. And, of course, long before. Imagining Australia tells a story of our nation through the eyes of people who are trained to see. Artists look at the world around them much more carefully than most of us. And what they see both describes and shapes our nation. In more than 80 well-researched and highly engaging chapters, Imagining Australia looks at our history by discussing movies, paintings, photographs, songs, and books. It puts them in the context of the times they were made, and asks what they say about who we were and who we have become. History and the arts are two sides of the same coin. Each is reflected in the other. Imagining Australia takes you on an extraordinary journey of discovery.

With recently discovered information coming to light, the author revisits and presents new stories and pictures illustrating his family's complex genealogy in this reworked edition of the 1992 manuscript 'Life's Race Well Run'. The original concept of 'A Diary of Discovery' has been maintained and the book is now published for the first time. There is a dynasty established by a Foundry owner and his eleven sons who were draftsmen, fitters and turners, machinists, mining engineers and a mercer. They spread worldwide searching for new challenges and in the service of their country. Two elusive grandfathers are eventually tracked down with their fascinating histories and stories revealed. A never before heard of great, great, grandfather is discovered. His seven-year transportation sentence to Van Diemen's Land extends to sixteen years' incarceration at various locations. When he finally gains his ticket of leave and then is emancipated in 1849, he travels to the mainland where his sons and granddaughters link in with the genealogy outlined in the 1992 book. This leads to revelations of more ex-nuptial children and half-brothers that had never been previously known. The exceptional women in the story are not neglected. Their perseverance and endurance is outlined. Aunts, grandmothers, and great grandmothers all have unique tales to tell. They had large families, and many had to face the pain of losing their children to illness, disease, and accidents.Locations where the characters lived and died, religions, occupations, and service in wartime are detailed. The ships, from small sailing ships to luxury ocean liners, on which they travelled are described in detail. Then there is the expanded bloodline genealogy that was never fully explored in the first book. While keeping much of the original material, these new stories open a whole new world of investigating a family history.

Ben knows your house is empty. And that's not all. He knows his partner's left him for a man with chunks of pop-tart in his hair; he knows his boss has been fired; and his use of controlled substances is no longer under control. He knows his biggest customer is putting her business with the competition, writing off Ben, and the newspaper he works for, as irrelevant. He knows there's a general election which is boring everyone - including him. Now he must use what he knows to get his life back on track: win back the deal, the girl, the promotion, and maybe even the election. Trouble is, Ben needs the support of some unreliable characters - most of whom work for the tabloid press - and a psychotic cat.Funny, outrageous and poignant, Empty is a darkly satirical look at the advertising sales industry at the start of the 21st century, when the illusion of power still suckered young, overpaid, self-obsessed hedonists into thinking they made a difference, when, in fact, the lives they led were just like the space they sold: empty.

These words are for anyone who struggles to feel seen when their emotions feel too big, or too different.

A friend said writing poetry is part of your healing. My stay in hospital was a long period of isolation and solitude and every day I got up to write with the vista of the city before me, I was engaging with healing of body and mind and as a period this offered me significant reflection and redeemed my style of writing with reflections on nature. So many of the poems were a response to kindness and care of those around me.

Any mother would die for their child. She would do anything to take away their pain. In the case of suicide, the mother keeps the pain and loses the child. On 5 July 2020, Jessica Revill took on her son's agony and had to learn to live as an "emotional amputee". She couldn't grow her son back. She had to navigate the world without her beautiful, funny, musical, autistic boy. So, if you can't die for your child, how do you live for them? Over the year following Gregory's death, his mother went on an intense journey of grief and post-traumatic growth as she did a deep dive into Australia's fractured mental health system. With her background as a clinician and an academic, Dr Revill investigates how poor medical training, ill-equipped emergency rooms, ineffective prevention programs and the bias against the disabled and mentally ill fail to save over 3000 lives a year. The book is framed by Revill's daily connection to a child who continues to guide his mother's prevention work as she finds him among the living.

This anthology covers some of the many conflicts during the 20th century, beginning with the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900 and the fate awaiting European missionaries. The book culminates with celebrations in Paris on New Year's Eve, 2000.Not all the stories depict military conflict - others cover the efforts and experiences of environmentalists, freedom fighters and factory workers.I outlined the trials and tribulations of women in the workforce prior to the first World War. They not only received half the pay of men doing the same work, but often had to endure sexual advances from many of their male co-workers. The subject of suffragettes is briefly mentioned, as they played an important part in improving conditions for working women. Two brothers enlist to fight in World War I, one in the British army and the other in the Australian army; both of whom meet in France to participate in the same battle. The troubles in Ireland have been ongoing for many years, but I set my story around the time just prior to the Irish Civil War during the 1922. I don't try and explain the reasons for the civil conflict, but endeavour to show how it affected people in isolated communities. The danger of survival for Germans with Jewish heritage becomes apparent during the 1930's and my story details the efforts of one family's bid to survive. Two escape and one is captured and interned in one of the more infamous concentration camps.A love story during the war-torn 1940's between two serving officers in a newly formed regiment is my longest story in the anthology. The capture of the Royal Gloucestershire Regiment after being hugely outnumbered by the enemy at the Imjin River during the Korean war is my story for the 1950's. They were to endure horrific conditions during their incarceration, the story in this anthology concentrates on the actions of one of the senior officers in his efforts to survive.Young Australian conscripts were sent to Vietnam, one of whom becomes a sniper due to his expertise with illegal killing of deer in the Tasmanian bush. As well as fighting the Viet Cong, he's confronted with a strange yellow powder covering the trees in which he spends most of his time. He's told it's called Agent Orange.A Greek island is the setting for my 70's story, although it had its origins in terrorist activity in England. The reluctant development of a relationship between a school teacher on sabbatical and a retiring soldier brings the story to its inevitable conclusion.Young people came together from all over Australia and indeed from several parts of the world to help save the last wild river in Tasmania. The 1980's story details the lives of two young volunteers from overseas who took part in the fight to save the last wild river. One of the most difficult stories to write was the disappearance of aboriginal women along many miles of unsealed roads in isolated communities. Hundreds of women have disappeared over a large area of British Columbia and nearby provinces. Some perpetrators have been brought to justice, but many remain unknown and continue with their brand of violence to plague such communities to this day. This is my story about one community along the "Highway of Tears."Not all the stories have happy endings in this anthology, as conflict often means either death or injury to one of the adversaries. They are written chronologically, but they can be read in any order.

After losing two yachts, the first off the coast of Africa and the second on a reef in New Guinea, many friends encouraged Jan and John to write a book of their adventures. So they have ...However, the loss of two boats was only a small part of their adventurous life story.John first met Jan in 1966, when John was building a trimaran, with the intent of sailing it back to England. The boat was only 29-feet long and, unfortunately, he was unable to entice Jan to join him on that adventure. So, to John's dismay they parted company after sixteen months and went their own ways for nearly eight years.John was building the Heart of Edna, a 50-foot ketch, with his brother David, when Jan turned up unexpectedly one day with her parent, who had agreed to drive her in search of John. Jan had been living in Melbourne for five years and had heard of John's exploits. Soon their relationship was all on again - John was chuffed! They chartered the 50-foot ketch for nearly four years before her loss. After building Tafua, they chartered in Northern Queensland before returning to the Western Pacific. It was exciting times for Jan and John, and their new daughter, Kelly. However, it was clear they wouldn't continue to take Kelly out of school, so their next big move was to increase the size of Tafua from a 60-footer to a 70-footer, thereby tripling the number of guests they could have on board on Sydney Harbour. It was a great move, setting the way for a prosperous future.Over the next few years they built three more sailing catamarans ranging from 90 to 100 feet, which also became extremely successful on the harbour. In 1997, they were made an offer for Sail Venture Cruises (their company). It was an offer they couldn't refuse. That started another challenge, which was to be their last, the building and running of a five-star lodge in the Gold Coast Hinterland, Queensland. In 2014, they finally sold their beautiful lodge and bought a home in Newport on Pittwater, New South Wales, where they live happily to this day.

Tales of a life well lived. Rewind 60 plus years, to an era devoid of social media and mobile phones. Where one was fully engaged in the here and now, and personal events were witnessed by those who were present. An era where life was looked at through a different lens ... that of our own eyes, and to savour, ponder and grow from those catalyst moments and events that shape us into who we are. How does a young, middle-class man from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne leave his job, his family and friends, and set off to the other side of the world, not knowing when he would return? Frank did just that. With little forward planning, and only a 'rough' idea of where he was going, his drive and determination to leave behind the familiar and explore the unknown outweighed any considerations of risk. At a young age, Frank had an inner drive to live life to the fullest and to take opportunities head on. Rather than play small and live up to others' expectations or, worse still, try to be someone he was not, Frank kept true to himself, honouring his calling without a backward glance, and ultimately paving a way for a unique life that he could call his own without regrets.

We are living in exciting times. World peace is something we have all wanted but was seemingly unachievable. Now, however, through a global humanity awakening, our aspiration for a harmonious society is within our reach. Through the irony of paradox, this book theorises that by understanding what we do not want we can establish what we do want. If peace is what we want, surely this can be created by practising the polar opposite of war?Using psychospiritual philosophy and quantum psychology, Susan Broomhall is part of the global community currently co-creating heaven on earth. It is Susan's belief that global peace and harmony and the co-creation of the new humanity is assured - if everyone trusts in themselves as creators of peace. While each individual is contributing to the rich and diverse tapestry of humanity, not everyone understands what this means. This book reveals 'how to' create a harmonic new humanity through the art of peace. World peace starts with you.

Ignoring Erika's instructions not to, Finch opens the box. Erika undergoes a worrying change. In the ninth century, Ulf the Viking receives an identical box from Hela, Queen of the Norse Underworld. Ulf is angry at Erika, Karl, and Finch, who cancelled his Vikings Rule celebration. He wants revenge.Hela assures him revenge comes in small packages; a tiny box containing one of Ulf's fingernails, enchanted by her sorcery. Fast forward to Marshton, where things aren't going well. On the surface, everything looks fine. But below the surface, not so much. Asgard's Chief of Mischief, Loki, steals Thor's hammer and sets up shop in Marshton's sewer system. He wants to kick-start the final great battle between gods and giants-Norse Armageddon-Ragnarok.Loki's plan needs help from the fire and ice giants. His daughter, Hela, is the only one who can summon them. But, father and daughter argued and haven't spoken to each other for 2000 years. Loki uses Harald's tooth to control Erika. She morphs into an exact copy of Hela when she opens the box containing it. Loki welcomes the summoned giants.Ice giants freeze the city's water. Fire giants light up anything that will burn. Scientists believe it's climate change. Marshton's emergency services have no answers. Karl and Finch, meanwhile, are dealing with Erika's body morphing gig and the fact that the new school principal has lied to them. Lies pile up, and the boys discover Erika also has been lying. With the truth dodging every which way, Finch suggests a fact-checking mission to Marshton Library. Books, he says, don't lie. Ulf invades the library and kidnaps the boys. Their capture leaves Erika isolated. Erika, ninth-century girl of the forests, finds herself alone on the city streets of the twenty-first. Those Giants is the second outing for Karl, Finch and Erika. It builds from the story begun in Those Vikings. Those Giants is a tale of friendship, dealing with problems, and the blurred lines between truth and lies. Suitable for readers aged 10-12 years.

You want to do what? Live in solitude next to the rainforest while you find your real self? Do not do this. His rational brain had no idea. The Creek is based on a true story and is about a young man who leaves the Darling River in western New South Wales to live next to the rainforest in South-East Queensland at a place called The Creek. At The Creek, he searches for his real self, the one he thinks will find if he lives in solitude. His self-reflection, his searching, and his day-to-day within this solitude are occasionally beautiful, often mind-bending, and usually way too political. There are big swear words, sexual adventures that may or may not startle you, and possibly too many judgements laid upon those whom he deems not so much as inferiors, just total dickheads. You have all met a few.The building of his house, and the subsequent vegie gardens, are done with limited skills. The genuine guesswork and multiple mistakes are below basic levels of arbitrary. The rainforest descriptions, the bird observations, and the character analyses of the locals are somewhat random and do not follow known patterns, norms or legal requirements needed to partake in civilised society. Thank God. The metaphors are accompanied by solace, the optimism joined by lilting bullshit, and the analogies quaint. After many years at the Creek, and a devastating trauma, he misses the Darling River, but he still wants to hang on to The Creek. What to do? If he returns to the Darling River, will it be enough to soothe the pain? Anyway, how is that search for the real self-going?This story is about an individual on the edge of society, who rarely listens to his rational brain and only occasionally to his emotional brain, and it is about landscape, lust and life itself.
