This poetry book brings to life the death, rebirth, and life cycle we all face on our spiritual journey. It highlights the shadows of our fragmented selves that we often try to hide or ignore, but that can be recognized, reintegrated, and positively reinforced as we focus on processing our trauma and becoming the best versions of ourselves. Kate brilliantly refers to these 'shadows' throughout the book as her 'ghosts' and allows the reader to catch a glimpse at the power of acknowledging them, learning their names, and helping them heal. She also has set up the book to allow readers to go on their own journey of self-discovery if they so choose with guided shadow work journal prompts. While the goal of the book is to bring healing to those who seek it, Kate also recognizes that shadow work is a significant mental deep dive that everyone may not be prepared to explore, and that's okay. If you choose to only read this book as surface-level poetry and nothing more, that is perfectly fine. Additionally, if you decide that this book may bring up too many painful aspects of your past that you are not yet ready to address, there's no shame in waiting to read this one until you are-after all, what else are TBR lists for?

"Only Easy Music for Ukulele" is full of exactly that. All of the pieces herein are easy. You'll find a nice variety of popular classical melodies and favorite folk tunes from various traditions, all presented in simple textures and in keys that are comfortable to play on the ukulele. Nice repertoire for beginning ukulele players. Tablature and standard notation. Glossary, Notation Guide, and fingering diagrams for chords are provided. Many of the 41 tunes in this volume are melody only which can be played either with a pick or with the fingers of your right hand. Chords for an accompanist (and lyrics) are sometimes included. A few of the pieces are arranged in a simple two-voice fingerstyle or classical texture, and should be played with the fingers. The bass lines are mostly open string notes, so add a fuller sound without complicating the job of the left hand A handful of pieces use only the first 3 strings and can therefore be played on either an ukulele in standard reentrant tuning or one with a low G 4th string. A few of the tunes in this volume are also found within the first few pages of "Music for Classical and Fingerstyle Ukulele" or "More Music for Classical and Fingerstyle Ukulele." And a few pieces presented herein are treated to more complex arrangements in one of the above two books. Although the pieces are not strictly ordered from least to most challenging, those requiring the least technical skill are closer to the front of the book and those requiring the most experience are presented toward the end. All books by Whitaker for ukulele, including this one, can be previewed at the author's website. EllenWhitakerGuitar.com.

Readers may be aware that Thomas Bulford died recently (though not as recently as before), and that I had what I then regarded as the onerous honour of editing his lexicographical work.Following this, his son presented the Publisher with a box of scribblings that he said were his 'distinguished' father's.My impression was that they were, indeed, Thomas Bulford's (the senior).Firstly, they bore a striking resemblance to the 'essays' that the Publisher insisted on being incorporated in the English Companion as introductions to the various definitional categories.Secondly, and I say this with as much grace as I can, they, whilst being somewhat idiosyncratic in construction and questionable in logic, contained a number of insights into the human condition that were also occasionally present in the earlier volume.Accordingly, with less reluctance than before, I agreed to edit this material, and offer it to readers for their judgement.Editor

My theme is war and a particular man - a man driven by destiny to abandon Troy and sail to western Italy to fulfill his fate of founding the people who would build Rome. Fulfilling his destiny was not easy. Juno, the wife of Jupiter, the king of gods and men, opposed him, as did many warriors. They did not want him to bring his household gods - the Penates - to Latium on the western coast of Italy, to marry Lavinia, to found the city of Lavinium, and to become the ancestor of the Romans.Muse, remind me of the reasons why Juno hated Aeneas, a man renowned for his pietas, for his devotion to duty, whether to the gods, to his family, or to his destiny. Aeneas had respect for those things to which respect is due. Why did Juno make his fulfilling his destiny so difficult? Are the immortals capable of such anger?

In my wanderings around the globe, I've found lots of characters who are tricksters. Sometimes the pranks work. Sometimes they backfire in the trickster's face. In this particular story, the trickster is Coyote. Does the trick succeed or fail? You're just going to have to read the story to find out. Who is smarter? The coyote or the hen?I have traveled across the Maya world visiting archaeological sites. In Chichén Itzá, Mexico, I wondered around the great pyramid with thousands of visitors. Further south at Tikal, in Guatemala, I walked among the ruins with hundreds of fellow travelers. Best yet, at Copán, in Honduras, I strolled the area with a few dozen people.Upon arrival in the village of Copán Ruinas, Honduras, I was greeted immediately by Humberto. He only spoke Spanish, but I understood that he wanted to offer me a hotel room. It was a very long day of travel and I loved the ease of finding this room. And, it was the best possible thing that could have happened to me in Honduras.Humberto and his wife, Gilma, helped me find a worthy wall for a mural in the village. Also, Gilma's brother worked with local youth who dressed up as Maya warriors for cultural events. As it turned out, they had a performance while I was there. Not only did I get to see it, but I was the official photographer as they performed for the President of Honduras and the Secretary General of the United Nations! I have the warmest memories of extraordinary experiences as I crossed the Maya world. Everywhere I travel, I meet the most wonderful people along my path. None welcomed me any more than Humberto and Gilma. Thank you for everything, my friends. Gracias por todo, mis amigos.I wanted to visit the Maya world long before I actually set foot there. And, the destination of choice was the ruins of Tikal in Guatemala. It's magnificent! The main temple there inspired the one drawn in the pages of this book. For the complete Tikal experience, you also need to stay in Flores during your journey. It's a delightful island community that serves as a base camp for Tikal. Stroll along its colorful homes, buy some very beautiful fabric, and get a taste of local Maya cuisine.

This is a big joke. a 20,000 word joke to be precise. The conceit being 'remove narrative from a novel' and replace it with 'flattened versions' in the form of chapter titles that refer to narratology terminology. As a second tier, I decided to use an Oulipan lipogram-type constraint in which each chapterlet is named after a letter of the English alphabet and does not contain that letter. This is another play on absence. My hope is that the lack of narrative is filled-in by the reader, as I found when I wrote it. Clearly there are protagonists. Although not spoken of directly, there are also the affects of events having taken place. Any implication of story has been generated by chance through the cut-up of archeological reports written by Bethan Bones and other material like lists of adjectives. The lack of the meaning-creating signal of narrative, produces a kind of null, a flatline a drone from which your transcendence may be apparent. Don't forget to laugh.

"Whether dealing with Greek gods, kings, politicians, terrorists, or capitalists, 19 Women explores the ability and power to take by force that which is desired. Man 'treats the world like firewood' and insists 'I will have what I came for'. Violence and greed are softened by moments of jewelled beauty where 'all your lovers' hearts are garnets, strewn' and 'emeralds are embedded in walls, like [...] eyes'. This book is a biography of my father, Albert Solberg (1903-1996). He was born in Norway, joined the Norwegian merchant marine at eighteen, and came to the United States in 1924. He endured personal tragedy and a half-dozen brushes with death, but also had some amazing experiences in places like India, Samoa, and South America. Later, he worked as a yacht crewman on the Great Lakes. After settling in New York City, he married in 1933. He and his wife of 63 years raised six children, and he lived to the age of 92. This is a story about adventure, hard work, and family--how an immigrant carved out a piece of the American Dream. All readers have known someone like Albert, who came to America with nothing and created a good life in a new land.

A comparison between Earth's cyclical and balanced processes before and after the introduction of humans is made. An analysis of the attempts of the civilized to understand Nature and their eventual turning away from it to construct a reality of their own. This alternate reality is examined through economics, culture, and scientific lenses and their effects on the Earth and its inhabitants. The future is contemplated for humanity and the planet in light of current climatic and other worldwide events such as global warming and depletion of water resources to name just two of many. "How to Avoid Going Down the Toilet" pleads for a change in our attitude toward Nature because it is the final authority on how things work on our planet. The Only Alternative to our current way of life is introduced in Five action steps achievable in our lifetime.

In volume I of the Blind Century Professor Hoggan primarily looked at the rise of America and her messianic illusions of Manifest Destiny which included not only subjugating the American continent, but all of South America and ultimately the world - a fulfilled Manifest Destiny under which we now live in this 21st Century. The 20th Century - the "American Century" - is a result of this messianic drive, and the consequences for Europe were devastating. Europe is the cradle of our Indo-European peoples and of Western Christian Civilization, and the centrality of all that entails. The rise of messianic America, and then of the USSR resulted in the destruction of the heartlands of our civilization, culture, and science. Some of his prophecies have not yet happened, such as the collapse of the United States - because of the destruction of the dollar, her demographics and ethnic constituency - but are looming on the horizon. Indeed the U.S. has somewhat reinvented itself several times to maintain her power and prestige, particularly after causing the collapse of her long-time ally and some-time enemy, the Soviet Union, but the massive debt bomb in ticking and the world is becoming restless. How long the juggling continue, no one knows. Certainly not forever as we balance on the precipice of World War III with a revanchist Russia now being fought in Ukraine as an American and NATO proxy war.Hoggan writes in favor of a revived Europe which he hopes will be able to eventually throw off American (and Russian) rule and reestablish herself as the Center of a renewed and re-enheartened Western Civilization and Christendom.
