Cultural heritage and national identity have been significant themes in debates concerning Central Asia following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, not only in academic circles, but more importantly among the general public in the newly independent Central Asian states. Inspired by insights from a popular form of traditional cultural performance in Kyrgyzstan, this book goes beyond cultural revival discourse to explore these themes from a historically informed anthropological perspective. Based on fourteen months of fieldwork and archival research in Kyrgyzstan, this historical ethnography analyses the ways in which political elite in Central Asia attempts to exercise power over its citizens through cultural production from early twentieth century to the present.
This handbook presents precise yet accessible up-to-date information about the geography, history, culture, politics, and economy of 49 Asian states, ranging from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and China to India, Russia, and Yemen. With other networks imitating the formula, the "HBO effect" triggered a wave of creative output. This turn to quality set off two shifts: (a) Contemporary television staged an international resurgence of the auteur, and (b) America transformed into an "on-demand nation." The chapters in this volume analyze new television lifestyles including marginalized perspectives, fan participation, and an emerging nostalgia correlated with trash aesthetics.
The strong relationship between the Bible and the sacraments of the Catholic Church is generally accepted in theology. This monograph approaches this relationship from a synchronic perspective. This fresh perspective opens up new windows providing insight into similarities found in the various rites, in and outside the Catholic Church. The effects of bordering have caused a feeling of the end to a Europe without borders, where free circulation is no longer possible. This is especially the case for young people and students of the Erasmus generation who all profit from the possibility of mobility.What sort of experiences were typical among university students in border regions throughout the period of the COVID-19 pandemic? Many of the students have no experience yet of a "normal" university course, of a tutorial or even a lecture at their university. With this book, Katarzyna Stoklosa and Birte Wassenberg, decided to give a platform to their students at the University of Southern Denmark (the German-Danish border region) and the University of Strasbourg (the Franco-German border region). The students write about their studies and life during the circumstances of COVID-19.

Public theologies reflect on the contextuality of the Christian religion. Much of this contextuality is dependent on place: place as the culture and the society in which religions are situated, place as the position from where a theologian speaks, place as the biographical contingencies that shape people's lives. Moreover, public theologies ask for the contribution of Christian ethics to society, thereby shaping the social, cultural, and religious space to which they belong. The contributions in this volume analyse the categories of space and place in order to deepen the understanding of contextuality, thereby taking up some of the challenges presented by the so-called "spatial turn". Dr Thomas Wabel is Professor of Protestant Theology (Systematic Theology) at the University of Bamberg. Dr Katharina Eberlein-Braun is Assistant Professor of Protestant Theology (Systematic Theology) at the University of Bamberg.
