I am an elderly black male, who, in my youth, developed a love of reading history; and in that period of time, the late ''30s and the early ''40s, I found it very hard to locate much literature depicting black presence in American history. Later in life, when this information was publicly made more available, I was overwhelmed with shock, and I questioned as to why all this had been hidden all these years. Black people had not only just existed here, they were also necessary for this country to achieve the success that was attained to push this nation ahead in the following years. This book is detailed to prove this assertion. I also go into great detail explaining why this information has been kept hidden. There is only a glimpse of pre-North American contributions mentioned in the book, but there is a detailed explanation of the making of the United States of America, all the way up until the present time, depicting how the black presence was necessary to bring this country to where it is today. It is also necessary for young and elderly, both black and white, who are aspiring, ambitious American citizens to be fully cognizant of this in order to reap the benefits they will need in keeping this nation as the greatest nation on earth. This book proves that diversity is the main bulwark of our nation.

  • - A Redemptive Journey to Scotland
    av Victor Atyas
    235,-

Frustrated in his work as a college librarian, 42-year-old Mark finds fulfillment in outdoor activities. On a camping journey to Chaco Culture National Historical Monument, his search for spiritual connection with the ancient Anastasis is shattered by a group of campers, who chant and drum late into the night. His pleas for quiet are met with ridicule and threats. Unable to find another campsite, defeated, he heads back to Santa Fe, his home. Along the way he reflects that he has been victimized by bullies ever since his childhood, and vows to evolve into a courageous and proud man. But he is at a loss on how to proceed. In a dream, a wise, old man in a castle advises him to emulate daredevils who have ventured into forbidding deserts, unknown oceans, and towering mountains. On a visit to the local library branch he finds a book describing three winter months in a remote Scottish Highlands cabin, with no electricity or running water. Nightly, on the way to the privies, the author sensed invisible eyes spying on him. Because the cabin was in the heart of the ancestral Pictish land, Marc concludes that the spying eyes must have belonged to their ghosts. The Picts were fearless. They fought Roman legionnaires naked except for paint on their bodies. He packs his things and leaves for the Highlands in search of the ghosts, and if he finds them, to ask them to teach him the secrets of their ancestors' fearlessness and daring. He is in luck. The ghosts enroll him into their tribe and appoint Derile, a member, to be his guardian angel. ln Dunvegan Castle Mark falls in love with Debbie, an American tourist, waiting for the arrival of her boyfriend. Derile advises restraint. Mark must decide whether to follow the calling of his heart and act like a Pict, or be his cautionary self.

  • - A Holistic Approach to Preventing Veteran Suicide
    av Krystle Shapiro Mshn Lmt
    385,-

The statistics about veteran suicide have changed little over the years, hovering most consistently at twenty suicides a day. Most emphasis has been placed on increasing the availability of mental health services for returning soldiers, yet theaters of war present a myriad of factors affecting human health from exposures to toxic elements, extreme environments, and a lack of proper nutrition, not to mention the emotional experiences that all together create a cascade of individualized chemical messenger responses to unrelenting stressors. The War Within informs soldiers, veterans, family members, and caretakers how to first understand what happens to the body under such stressors in theaters of war and how this affects the brain. Once one understands what has happened to the physical body, then appropriate decisions and practices can be undertaken to restore the physical reserves of our warriors, ultimately reversing the heartbreaking suicidal trend that we recognize is currently taking place. The War Within presents a five-part, well-researched program that can serve as a vital complement to the important mental health programs presently being provided for our soldiers and veterans. This program is easy to implement into daily routines, and it enables restoration of optimal brain function, thus reducing the incidence of depression, hopelessness, fatigue, and suicidal ideation.

  • - The Only Jew in a Catholic School: Epiphanic Teaching
    av Philogia Prima
    465,-

Teaching is not an activity that necessarily causes learning. Nor is learning always the result of having been taught by someone or something. So, what is teachingand more specificallywhat is good teaching? Philogia Prima draws on her experiences as a teacher to answer those questionswhile also sharing her observations about academics as the only Jew in a Catholic high school. She explains that teaching is not always a means of communicating knowledge about something or someone external to either teacher or students. But having the confidence to function as a teacher should be the product of a teachers knowledge and beliefcall it faithin the value of whatever is being taught. If a teacher is neither knowledgeable nor aware of what is lacking, confidence is not there, and students can sense its absence. Moreover, if a teacher never says, I dont know, he or she is doing students a disservice. Students need to be reminded that learning is a process that sometimes emanates from, but just as often, includes the teacher. Whether youre a parent, teacher, administrator or someone else trying to help students learn, youll find valuable insights in More Things in Heaven and Earth.
