  • av Victoria N. Terrana

Victoria Terrana published her first poetry book, "Discover Self Redemption" through Bookleaf Publishing this past August. In her second book "Redeemed: Discover Self Redemption", she hoped to be able to touch into her reader's sense of spirituality by expanding the length and content of her book. She writes poetry that addresses how one's perspective of faith can help people in their personal growth and relationships. She worked on these poems from the end of November 2021 until October 2022. The poems are published in ascending order from her oldest work up until her most recent work. She wrote them in this order to show the transforming shift a life of faith and healing can make in one's life. In sharing her faith journey along life's obstacles, she hopes to help her readers rediscover the beauty and power in their faith and to use it as a means to their self-redemption.

""Poems are not the shells we find on the beach. The ones we seek out and put in our pockets and then on our bookshelves, amidst the other pretty knick-knacks; the ones that speak on our behalf to comment on our character or divulge a part of our personality to those we welcome in.The poems that catch your eye - that you put in your heart and never need to dust off - are not sought out. They are not the prettiest things we come by as we walk with our heads downcast, for beauty is often hard to find in this state. Sometimes, poetry is the sand that gets stuck to us throughout our excursion. Accidentally, but with intention. Garnered by need, not by cupidity. It gets into places you'd never suspect and remains there in stubbornness, as if to say it is at last where it belongs. It will linger in you and remind you of the time, like the sand in your car. Like the sand in your shoes. This sand is old. It is the result of many abrasions. It is eroded but not yet polished. Tumbled, but not lost.It is not yet done experiencing the thrashes of life and will surely encounter many more.Until one day, it is so fine,It is dust.If it fits in your shoe,Take it with you.""

So I'm not that old, I'm still very much growing up, but I'd say that finally- emerging out of the age where I was suitably characterised as 'angsty' and dare I say it... 'emo', I no longer feel misunderstood. At least, by myself. I quite literally let out a breath as a wrote that because I somehow, with only a very vague plan, (if that) a little coffee shop job and an artistic point-of-view (I'd also like to thank the 150mg of Sertraline I now take daily, bless up g) I have reached a stage where I feel that to be true, and I don't know how many people (my age and far older) could say that. I don't have a proper title for it or any kind of degree to back it up- but if I am now (semi)confidently calling myself an artist, then you could say that I'm trying to figure out what my masterpiece is. I have big dreams but I can't exactly say what. I have something to say but something my Mother once told me on the phone, (and in a moment of clarity I grabbed a rizla & a biro to write it down to keep and remember) sums this up best: "The soul is so rich and words are such a clumsy tool." It might go away but for now, I felt an urge to find catharsis in poetry. If you get what I'm saying this far then, you'll get that I'm not going to try and get you to see in my way, we'll never see the world exactly the same but that's the beauty of trying to express it to each other through art. Plus... my way is kinda cute if you wanted to check it out...
