This book is a rhetorical walk within my inner monologues during the time span of eight months. From October 25th, 2018- May 1st, 2019 I recorded my emotions as if they were cascading into the journal in front of me. These entries are sporadic and with them will come some questions undoubtedly so. The events and interactions that have triggered these memoirs have caused visceral formation of who I am today. When I felt at a loss, I welcomed my first thoughts to configure an image in front of me so that I could perhaps become more conscious of who I was. I realize we as human beings are inherently predetermined to never quite become fully conscious, but the growing process which comes with self-awareness is a beautiful one.

""This collection of poems reflects all the heaviness we face every day as sentient beings. The only good news is the assurance of an imminent end, but to make it even more anxiety-provoking, humanity has no confirmation of what follows death. What if we were to come back here indefinitely? This should be our greatest fear. While waiting for a concrete answer to be found, you are invited to revisit with me what is most depressing in this world (broken dreams, death, suffering), but in a very poetic way! Also, all poem titles contain a unicorn in it, it's important to mention. It makes the titles more festive even if the poems are sad to cry.""

Atmospheric Rivers is my first poetry book, and as such it is incredibly close to my heart. The poems I have included are poems of healing, of learning to let go and be myself, of queerness, of mental illness, of the trauma inherent in being alive in our current society; but more than anything, this is a dedication of love, for you, for me, for our planet, and hope for our future. There is always beauty to be found if you are looking, and I hope this helps you to see it.

This compilation of work is the culmination of a 21 day poetry challenge. The author's voice sings through each poem: an exploration, investigation and celebration of life and all that it encompasses. The poems have been inspired by Tarot, in particular the major arcana cards 1 to 21. The poem itself may not be a reference to the symbolism of the card, but the title of the card was used as a base point for writing each poem.

There will be some love, disdain, ambivalence, joy, morbidity, beauty, and heart wrenching moments. It will not always be known if it is the author's story or from the witness perspective. ""Love is beautiful pain when it is not contentment, and when it is not bliss. Ava Duado debuts a collection of poems inspired by a difficult, unhealthy love that was lost. The poems were written as a means to process grief, at a time when nothing else provided relief to the same extent. lyrics to a stranger delves into human emotion, and how words can bring out the best, and worst, out of you. They can provide warmth, while simultaneously feeling like a cold glass of water across one's face. Words aren't always used for one's best interest, but the impact remains powerful. And in choosing the words we use, we have the power to evoke reaction, and how those reactions can affect not only those impacted, but yourself.
