Practitioners do not have an adequate understanding of how small changes in mixtures of chemicals will affect toxicity in an organism. The current belief is the mechanism of action must be known and similar for all chemical involved to be able to adequately predict mixture effects. This book provides a discussion of approaches, molecular mechanisms, and the challenges involved in the assessment of mixtures. In the first section of the book a brief introduction to the background and significance of combined toxicity is provided describing the degradation, oxidation, absorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion of various compounds in the environment and organism. Section two introduces the main sources and enrichment mechanisms of different chemical mixtures and clarifies the biological exposure pathways of different compounds. In section three classical and emerging toxicological research models are introduced in detail, including various cell models and in vivo research models of model organisms with the case study; included are the combined molecular toxicity mechanism of heavy metals, pesticides, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCP), phthalates (PAEs), microplastics and flame retardants respectively. Through the description of compound emission, migration, accumulation and transformation process in the previous sections and the analysis of the combined molecular toxicity, section four introduces computer mathematical modeling methods of hazard assessment of compound mixture. Sections five and six detail challenges and future trends and provides a conclusion on the topic.

"With the increased prominence of protests organized by public groups like Black Lives Matter, recent years have seen a shift in public opinion on memorials and monuments which represent figures with ties to slavery, oppression, and imperialism. While this led to some of the most widespread recent popular interest in the role of public art, it is only the latest event in an evolving era in art history which finds artists and historians working to respond to changing public opinion and expectations about who is memorialized in the public space and why. In Memorials Now, well-known authorities in public art Cher Krause Knight and Harriet F Senie consider a selection of notable recent case studies which exemplify changing beliefs about the values and roles of memorials. With a particular interest in the ways that artists have moved to memorialize and honour people who have traditionally been underrepresented and oppressed, this text explores exciting public memorials such as the memorial to an enslaved man in 1763 Monument in Georgetown, Guyana; the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt; and the recent work by Steve Locke, Three Deliberate Grays for Freddie (A Memorial for Freddie Gray). Though the text is largely concerned with the ways in which this movement is playing out in the United States, the text also draws in examples from around the world, thus demonstrating the many ways that artists have responded to the particular situations of their communities to memorialize the most vulnerable community members. This text promises to become an essential work in the current study of memorials, monuments, and public art. This is a thriving area of study in art history -- particularly for its interconnection with politics, sociology, visual anthropology, and culture studies -- but is also of timely relevance in courses on public planning, urban development, and architecture. As the latest work by two highly respected scholars in this area, there is sure to be much interest in this book both for its value in the classroom and its contribution to scholarship"--

Develop more nutritious crops to aid in the fight against world hunger with this timely volume One in nine people worldwide suffer from hunger or food scarcity. Massively increasing food production is one of the most urgent scientific projects in the modern world, particularly as a changing climate places increasing pressure on the global food supply and on sustainable food production processes. Biofortification is a process in which plant breeding, improved agronomic practices, and/or modern biotechnology are employed to increase nutrient density of crops without sacrificing any of their desirable characteristics. It's an essential tool in the global fight against hunger. Crops Biofortification offers an up-to-the-minute overview of this essential subject and its recent advances. It covers all the latest methodologies and techniques deployed in biofortification, as well as surveying plant responses to genetically induced biofortification and the effect of climate change on biofortified crops. Designed to allow for the application of these techniques at the field level, it's a significant contribution towards the search for a sustainable global food spply. Crops Biofortification readers will also find: Presentation of recent advances in omics, particularly metabolomics, which can decipher potential changes in plants caused by biofortificationDetailed discussion of methods for increasing the nutritional content of edible plants to address specific nutritional deficienciesContributions towards a road map for increasing global food production by 70% before the year 2050 Crops Biofortification is ideal for researchers, policymakers, and professionals interested in the potential biofortification of crop plants, as well as graduate and advanced undergraduate students in agronomy, plant physiology, plant breeding and genetics, agricultural biotechnology, and related fields.

A comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of differential antennas The first antennas ever created were differential antennas, in the dipole and loop constructions, before the subsequent creation of the single-ended or monopole antenna. Dozens of basic antenna configurations have been invented since then, the majority of them differential. The theory and design of differential antennas therefore has an impact on a huge range of fields which make use of electromagnetic waves. Differential Antennas contains a thorough, comprehensive overview of these antennas, their theory, and their practical applications. It details the relationship between differential and single-ended antennas, which may act as tools for determining the properties of one when the other is known. This book offers an analysis of the role differential antennas play in wireless communication and sensing. Overall, it stands as an essential contribution to a key area of communications technology. Differential Antennas readers will also find: Chapters covering topics including microstrip antennas, shorted patch antennas, grid array antennas, and other designs Tables and figures illustrating key data, antenna structures, and moreInstructions for measuring differential antennas for characterization and specification purposes Differential Antennas is ideal for senior and graduate level students, researchers, and radio frequency engineers.
