"One of the most significant sources of energy consumption in buildings is the space conditioning that is needed to ensure that a space is thermally comfortable for its occupants. Climate extremes such as heat waves and rising temperatures have prompted an increase in the energy requirements of buildings. As a result, the need for more energy-efficient space cooling methods has become critical. Non-conventional cooling and thermal storage methods, such as activated carbon-based adsorbents and the incorporation of Phase Change Materials (PCMs), can be used to help meet this challenge."--

Learn how managers of the construction process use construction graphics to analyze, evaluate, and organize the labor, equipment, and materials required to fulfill the design professionals' instructions regarding a project. Construction drawings are, in their essence, a set of goals, the graphic and written instructions provided by architects and engineers to construction professionals that adequately manifest the outcomes sought for a project. Construction professionals translate those instructions into discreet processes and sequences of work, to which values-in both time and money-can be attributed. Construction Graphics has long stood as the essential treatment of this subject from the constructor's point of view. Now updated from the second edition, the third edition reflects advances in technology and project delivery systems and offers an analysis of how the ideas discussed throughout the text might be applied in the context of one system in a commercial building. Construction Graphics continues to be an indispensable volume for anyone managing construction work. Readers of the third edition of Construction Graphics will also find: Enhanced treatment of technology as it operates in construction project delivery and the relationship between design professionals and buildersExercises at the end of each chapter, with detailed answers in a helpful appendixIllustrations and figures throughout to emphasize key concepts Construction Graphics is ideal for students in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, architectural engineering, project management, and interior design programs in community college and four-year university programs.

It is not without irony that in an age characterised by the dissolution of certainty - a consequence of digital dematerialisation and the catastrophic destabilisation of our social institutions and natural world - architecture, for so long the repository for our myths and the vessel for our intangible narratives and rituals, has been stripped bare. Increasingly preoccupied with the physical, material and measurable, architecture has forfeited its original purpose as a mediating link between the tacit and the tangible. Drawing on the current resurgence and our enduring cultural fascination with the ethereal and uncanny, this AD frames the spectral as a deconstructive gesture that undermines the fixedness and certainties of binary logics, a means to develop new practices and positions from which to address our contemporary uncertainties. Gathering a body of work that explores and speculates on architecture's long romance with the incorporeal, the issue is intended as a catalyst through which latency, contingency and indeterminacy, inherent characteristics of the architectural condition, can once more be valued, cultivated and nurtured. Equips readers with the intellectual tools required to tackle perennial philosophical problems Solving, Resolving, and Dissolving Philosophical Problems is addressed to all who are interested in philosophical questions. It presupposes little philosophical knowledge, only curiosity and an open mind. It demands a willingness to learn not doctrine but method, and the courage to suspend judgement and to challenge received ideas. Advocating the method of the 3 C-s: Connective, Contrastive, and Contextual Analysis, the book demonstrates the method by putting it to work -- examining fifteen salient philosophical questions that concern all thinking people. It is organized thematically into four parts. Part I introduces questions in philosophy of psychology (the nature of the mind; the mind/body problem; the nature of consciousness and its demystification; knowledge of other minds). Part II deals with epistemological questions (knowledge, belief; memory; imagination, thinking; dreaming). Part III deals with value (the roots of morality; the nature of good and evil; the need for a secular conception of the soul; happiness). The application of the method in the essays produces striking, original and unanticipated results that will give readers pause. The final part of the book articulates in detail the methodology of the 3 C-s exemplified by the fifteen essays and defends it against objections. Solving, Resolving, and Dissolving Philosophical Problems: On the Methodology of Connective, Contrastive, and Contextual Analysis is an excellent textbook for undergraduate students in introductory philosophy courses alongside more advanced scholars, as well as an invaluable resource for educated general readers with an interest in philosophical methodology.

Comprehensive resource presenting tunable evanescent-mode filters design principles, implementation technologies, and applications, with hardware demonstrations and illustrations to support concepts Covering all recent advancements in the field, Tunable Evanescent-Mode Filters discusses fundamentals and applications in tunable evanescent-mode filters with concepts supported by hardware demonstrations to help the reader design experiments, a variety of detailed illustrations to aid in reader comprehension, and worked-out examples to help connect theory to practice. The book is divided into three parts. The first part introduces associated physics, providing background information on topics such as filter anatomy, coupling matrix and routing diagrams, evanescent-mode resonators, and more. The second part covers implementation, describing topics like printed circuit boards, silicon microfabrication, and injection molding. The last part covers applications and discusses a broad range of topics including absorptive bandstop filters, bandwidth and passband control, high-order and fractional-order evanescent-mode filters, advanced evanescent-mode filter structures, and phase-locked loop and balanced-balanced tunable filtering. Written by two highly qualified academics with significant research experience in the field, Tunable Evanescent-Mode Filters also explores topics such as: Filter examples, including Chebyshev bandpass filters and Butterworth bandstop filters, and coupling techniques, including external and inter-resonator coupling The constant bandwidth coupling concept, covering BW variation versus T-line length and tuning range, as well as phase variation Bandpass-to-Bandstop reconfigurable filters, covering the switching coupling structure Single-ended (SE) and balanced (BAL) diplexers, covering the dual-mode diplexing concept and its architecture and resonant frequency misalignment Monitoring and control of silicone-based filters, covering spiral inductors and circuit optimization Tunable Evanescent-Mode Filters is a one-of-a-kind and completely up-to-date reference on the subject for both beginners in tunable RF systems looking for learning the fundamentals, as well as advanced researchers who are interested in the most effective techniques and latest developments in the field.

"This special issue of Parliamentary History is one product of 'Eighteenth-Century Political Participation and Electoral Culture' (ECPPEC) a research project funded from January 2020 to June 2023 by the UK's Arts and Humanities Research Council. ECPPEC was designed to shed new light on participation in parliamentary elections in England in the long 18th century, from about 1695 to the Reform Act of 1832. It was concerned with 'participation' interpreted broadly, both in the sense of voting, and also through other means: for instance, by attending - or being an active part of - the rituals of parliamentary elections, or by consuming - or creating - electoral print, song, dress, or other artefacts. ECPPEC thus had a dual focus on polling data and electoral culture, and an ambition to discover how these two aspects of elections worked together, with electoral culture potentially affecting election results"--
