This book is the result of an exhaustive review of the general algorithms used for noise reduction using two general application criteria: one-input, one-output systems, and two-input, one-output systems. The text describes theoretically and experimentally the processes related to high-order statistical analysis algorithms, as well as its practical combination with the convolutional analysis. On the other hand, the results of applications in real telecommunications signals, sensing of variables and biosignals such as human tremor are also shown. The reader will benefit from both the theoretical foundations described in the book, and the practical examples including generic codes of all the functions described and modifiable for use in different applications. This book is an ideal text for engineers, graduate students and scientists involved with noise reduction and signal processing.Key Features: Emphasis on noise reduction techniquesAccompanying codesInteractive elementsPractical approach

Written by leading researchers in the field, Machine Learning for Tomographic Imaging presents a unified overview of deep-learning-based tomographic imaging. Key concepts, including classic reconstruction ideas and human vision inspired insights, are introduced as a foundation for a thorough examination of artificial neural networks and deep tomographic reconstruction. An engaging and accessible style makes this book an ideal introduction for those in applied disciplines, as well as those in more theoretical fields who wish to learn about application contexts. Hands-on projects are also suggested, and links to open source software, working datasets, and network models are included.

This is the second volume in "Studies in the theoretical physics" sequence that will include: 1. Fundamental Mathematical Methods 2. Advanced Mathematical Methods 3. Classical Mechanics 4. Electricity and Magnetism 5. Quantum Mechanics 6. General RelativityIts objective is to provide the mathematical tools to students majoring in physics or engineering and taking advanced theoretical physics courses that require a solid understanding of Tensor calculus and its application. These courses include General relativity, electromagnetism, fluid dynamics, quantum information theory and quantum field theory, solid mechanics, crystallography, continuum mechanics, plasma physics, and thermodynamics. Students' success in these courses depends heavily on their mathematical skills in tensor calculus, especially in general relativity.

Experimental techniques to understand the physics and chemistry of solid surfaces blossomed following the introduction of all-metal demountable stainless steel ultrahigh vacuum methods in the late 1960s, leading to the development of many new techniques in the following years. These techniques exploit instrumentation that can be installed in university and company laboratories and are now widely used. A slightly later development, namely the availability of facilities to deliver synchrotron radiation (SR), particularly since the 1980s, has impacted on a wide range of disciplines in physics, chemistry, materials science and the life sciences. In particular, SR has allowed important enhancements in the capability of existing surface science techniques based on X-rays and vacuum ultra-violet radiation through improved spectral brilliance, and spectral and spatial resolution. Even more significantly, SR, with its wide range energy tunability in this spectral range has opened up entirely new surface methods with no equivalents in home laboratories. These enhanced and new capabilities are the particular focus of this book.Key Features: Explains why synchrotron radiation is relevant for studies of surfacesDescribes the unique properties of synchrotron radiation that provide information on surfaces not accessible without itIllustrates how synchrotron radiation can aid understanding of the electronic properties of surfacesIllustrates how synchrotron radiation can aid understanding of the structure of surfaces

This book begins by presenting an overview of the karst problem worldwide, and examines Dead Sea evaporite karst, including its features and methods of investigation, a review of geophysical methods for karst investigation and features of geophysics for investigation of different aspects of the DS karst and sinkholes, respectively. The authors present practically all geophysical methods that have been applied. The book shows the potential of geophysical methods for resolving real problems of karst. The description of different aspects of the problem and justification of the necessity to understand the phenomenon in the relationship with the geology and hydrogeology of specific regions represents one of the main parts of the book.Key FeaturesKarst around the world and its investigationDevelopment of evaporate karst in the Dead Sea shore and the sinkholes problemKarst detection, and mitigation observed by surface geophysical methodsAn overview of the efficiency of surface geophysical methods for karst detectionContribution of surface geophysical methods to environmental security (natural hazard/karst related hazard)
