  • - Sacred Number and the Golden Age
    av John Michell
    285,-

ANCIENT MYSTERIES / SACRED GEOMETRY "John Michell and Christine Rhone's book combines vision and tradition to produce a comprehensive guide to what they term 'the science of enchanting the landscape, ' as practiced across the ancient world. Their book is indispensable to anyone seeking an understanding of the way in which the threads of astrology, cosmology, number, and music were combined, in many countries and at many different periods, to provide a design for the fabric of society." --Pete Stewart, author of The Spiritual Science of the Stars Throughout the world--in countries as far apart as China, Ireland, Iceland, and Madagascar--there survive records and traditions of whole nations being divided into twelve tribes and twelve regions, each corresponding to one of the twelve signs of the zodiac and to one of the twelve months of the year. Best known are the twelve tribes of Israel under King Solomon, but there have been many others. Wherever they occur, they are associated with an ideal social order and a golden age of humanity. Exploring examples of these twelve-tribe societies, John Michell and Christine Rhone explain the blueprint for this organizational structure and look at the musical, mythological, and astronomical enchantments that kept these societies in harmony with the cosmos. They also examine the astrological landscapes of classical Greece, the aligned St. Michael sanctuaries of Europe, and the true site and function of the Temple in Jerusalem. They show that the sacred geography of these sites was part of an ancient code of knowledge that produced harmony between nature and humanity and is as relevant to our present and future as it was to our past. JOHN MICHELL, educated at Eton and Cambridge, is the pioneer researcher and specialist in the field of ancient, traditional science. He is the author of more than 25 books that have profoundly influenced modern thinking, including The Dimensions of Paradise, The New View over Atlantis, and Secrets of the Stones. He lives in London. CHRISTINE RHONE is an artist and writer with a special interest in landscape symbolism. The translator of several important works, including Jacques Le Goff's Saint Francis of Assisi, Antoine Faivre's Theosophy, Imagination, Tradition, and Jean Richer's Sacred Geography of the Ancient Greeks, she lives in London.

  • - Your Personal Numbers as the Key to a Healthier Life
    av Michael Brill
    199,-

NEW AGE / PERSONAL GROWTH "Michael Brill takes numerology to a place it has never been before." --Louise Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life "Michael Brill's Numerology for Healing has become a welcome addition to my practice, giving me a fresh and unique perspective on the relationship between behavior and health issues, and my patients have been the beneficiaries." --Robert S. Stein, doctor of chiropractic In Numerology for Healing, Michael Brill uses his system of Cosmic Numerology--which combines numerology with psychology, quantum physics, and the concepts of gematria and reincarnation--to create a unique approach to healing emotional and physical problems. Humans suffer from a profound sense of abandonment when the soul is decanted from the Universal Oneness into the confines of a personality. Brill explains how this sense of abandonment manifests itself in two principal types of behavior: people work to be loved and appreciated for who they are, or they try to control and micromanage their lives and relationships so that nothing goes wrong. Both of these behavior patterns are exhausting physically, emotionally, and mentally and are clear catalysts for illness. Brill details more than 200 physical and mental health conditions and their associated symptoms and shows how to identify and treat the causes--from addictions and Alzheimer's disease to thyroid problems, heart failure, and cancer. For instance, he reveals that, in general, illnesses beginning with the letter A (acne and alcoholism) have issues of self-esteem as one of the basic causes, whereas illnesses beginning with letter G (gallstones and glaucoma) are associated with a need to be in control, in relationships or at work. By using the numerology of your birth date and name, Numerology for Healing makes it easy to identify your positive and negative tendencies and characteristics and to use them as the key to achieving a healthier life. MICHAEL BRILL, a numerologist since 1985, has worked with schools, businesses, and government, including 10 years with the aerospace industry and 2 years with NASA. The author of Know Your Numbers, Know Your Self, he has appeared on FOX television and 450 radio programs in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Cayman Islands. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

  • - The Invisible Fence of Reality and Other Stories
    av Nevit Oguz Ergin
    239,-

RELIGION / SUFISM "The stories told in Sufism teach us that life is a journey, that every moment is worth living, every step is an achievement, every crossroad is an experience, and every experience is a teacher. Tales of Modern Sufi, compiled by one of the foremost translators of Rumi, offers us this valuable gift of storytelling and shares with us a taste of Sufism and its magnificent heritage." --Nahid Angha, codirector of the International Association of Sufism and executive director for Sufism Journal Sufi stories have traditionally been a means of opening a portal that allows us to advance from our basic perceptions into states of extraordinary awareness. This collection of deceptively simple stories by renowned Rumi translator and Sufi Nevit Ergin has the ability to remove readers' complacent sense of self and identity and to expand their ordinary awareness of reality in every possible direction. In these stories the primrose path we travel suddenly turns into a trickster's hall of mirrors where we learn that we are not children of Adam and Eve so much as children of our perceptions. The protagonists and antagonists of these tales are constantly morphing and exchanging places. They exist in a world where individuals are stalked by a cricket that is an "invisible monster with the face of a demon," confront the ambiguous burden of ridding oneself of one's own corpse, and discover the "invisible fence of reality" existing in the layers of a discarded piece of art. The symbols in these stories are booby traps designed to release the mind from the sense of its own importance and awaken the realization that "if you refuse to be born, you cannot die." Blind faith, the author says, has proved itself incapable of producing wisdom, tolerance, or world peace. This is because the answers to humanity's problems lie beyond our ordinary perception and require love and ecstasy to be made visible. Our thirst for wisdom and understanding must take us to the fountain of universal truth. These stories provide water from that fountain. NEVIT O. ERGIN is the original English translator of the complete Divan-i Kebir and is the coauthor, with Will Johnson, of The Forbidden Rumi and The Rubais of Rumi. Since 1955, he has been an initiate in the Itlaq ("total liberation") path of Sufism under the tutelage of Sufi master Hasan Lutfi Shushud. He lives in California.

  • - Essays on the History of Consciousness
    av Jeremy Naydler
    265,-

The sacred consciousness that prevailed in antiquity is the key to unlocking our future.

  • - How Feelings Link the Brain, the Body, and the Sixth Sense
av Marc S. Micozzi & Michael Jawer
    395,-

A cutting-edge examination of feelings, not thoughts, as the gateway to understanding consciousness • Contends that emotion is the greatest influence on personality development • Offers a new perspective on immunity, stress, and psychosomatic conditions • Explains how emotion is key to understanding out-of-body experience, apparitions, and other anomalous perceptions Contemporary science holds that the brain rules the body and generates all our feelings and perceptions. Michael Jawer and Dr. Marc Micozzi disagree. They contend that it is our feelings that underlie our conscious selves and determine what we think and how we conduct our lives. The less consciousness we have of our emotional being, the more physical disturbances we are likely to have--from ailments such as migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and post-traumatic stress to anomalous perceptions such as apparitions and involuntary out-of-body experiences. Using the latest scientific research on immunity, sensation, stress, cognition, and emotional expression, the authors demonstrate that the way we process our feelings provides a key to who is most likely to experience these phenomena and why. They explain that emotion is a portal into the world of extraordinary perception, and they provide the studies that validate the science behind telepathic dreams, poltergeists, and ESP. The Spiritual Anatomy of Emotion challenges the prevailing belief that the brain must necessarily rule the body. Far from being by-products of neurochemistry, the authors show that emotions are the key vehicle by which we can understand ourselves and our interactions with the world around us as well as our most intriguing--and perennially baffling--experiences.

  • - What it is, Why it Works, and How it Can Help You
    av Ruth Lever Kidson
    209,-

HEALTH / ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE "Acupuncturists--this is the book to have in your waiting room. My patients love it and many come early for their appointments in order to read a few pages. It covers all the basics of acupuncture in an engaging style rich with anecdotes and case histories. A joy to read!" --Dan Brown, L.Ac. Is Acupuncture Right for You? is regarded by many practitioners as the most concise and useful book to introduce prospective patients to the principles, processes, and benefits of acupuncture. One of the oldest healing therapies known, acupuncture has now become a popular and recognized alternative to Western medicine, particularly for the treatment of chronically painful conditions. While medicine manages conditions primarily with drugs and/or surgery, acupuncture focuses on treatment of the person as a whole by identifying and relieving energetic imbalances and blockages throughout the body. Addressing these disruptions in the energy flow, or vital force, of the body treats not only the physical symptoms but also the underlying cause of the ailments. Ruth Lever Kidson explains the fundamental principles of traditional Chinese medicine that underlie acupuncture and how practitioners use this information to make their diagnoses and select treatment options. Using case histories of acupuncture patients, she shows what to expect from a consultation and treatment session and also offers advice on how to find a good practitioner. Anyone considering acupuncture for treatment of a health condition will find their questions answered and their concerns allayed by this invaluable book. RUTH LEVER KIDSON qualified as a doctor from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London and has studied a wide range of complementary therapies. She is the author of Hypnotherapy for Everyone and A Guide to Common Illnesses and lives in England with her husband, who is a homeopath.

  • - A Parent's Healing Touch
    av Donna (Donna Finando) Finando
    429,-

PARENTING / HEALING Touch is critical to the development of babies and children. It establishes both their sense of self and their connectedness to the rest of the world. Donna Finando shows that touch is also key to restoring health when illness occurs. As a mother and grandmother, she has experienced the frustration and helplessness of watching a sick child suffer. As an acupuncturist and massage practitioner, she has found there are many simple ways parents can provide relief and even healing for many common childhood ailments by using touch therapy. Trigger point therapy releases restricted muscles, and acupressure allows energy to flow freely, activating the body's remarkable healing abilities. Colds, sore throats, ear infections, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, and even asthma are some of the common conditions that can be relieved by acupoint and trigger point touch therapy. Finando presents an in-depth explanation of each condition, providing information on causative factors, dietary and behavior recommendations, point techniques that can offer relief, and when to seek medical help. The gentle techniques that form this healing practice also extend to other parent-child interactions, offering a comprehensive model for the care and nurturing of children. DONNA FINANDO, L.Ac., L.M.T., is a practitioner of acupuncture and massage specializing in myofascial meridian therapy and myofascial release techniques for the treatment of chronic and acute pain and dysfunction. She lives on Long Island, New York, where she has been in continual practice since 1976. She is coauthor of Trigger Point Therapy for Myofascial Pain and the author of Trigger Point Self-Care Manual.

  • - Ghosts, Ancestors, and the Transparent Veil of the Pagan Mind
    av Claude Lecouteux
    289,-

GHOSTS / PAGANISM The impermeable border the modern world sees existing between that of the living and the dead was not visible to our ancestors. The dead could--and did--cross back and forth at will. The pagan mind had no fear of death, but some of the dead were definitely to be dreaded: those who failed to go peacefully into the afterlife and remained on this side in order to right a wrong that had befallen them personally or to ensure that the moral code promoted by their ancestors was being respected. These dead individuals were a far cry from the amorphous ectoplasm that is featured in modern ghost stories. These earlier visitors from beyond the grave--known as revenants--slept, ate, and fought just like the living, even when, like Klaufi of the Svarfdaela Saga, they carried their heads in their arms. Revenants were part of the ancestor worship prevalent in the pagan world and still practiced in indigenous cultures such as the Fang and Kota of equatorial Africa, among others. The church, eager to supplant this familial faith with its own, engineered the transformation of the corporeal revenant into the disembodied ghost of modern times, which could then be easily discounted as a figment of the imagination or the work of the devil. The sanctified grounds of the church cemetery replaced the burial mounds on the family farm, where the ancestors remained as an integral part of the living community. This exile to the formal graveyard, ironically enough, has contributed to the great loss of the sacred that characterizes the modern world. CLAUDE LECOUTEUX is a former professor of medieval literature and civilization at the Sorbonne. He is the author of numerous books on medieval and pagan afterlife beliefs, including Witches, Werewolves, and Fairies. He lives in Paris.

  • - Their Influence and Power from Antiquity to the Present Day
    av Michael Howard
    289,-

HISTORY / SECRET SOCIETIES"With the multitude of books and websites published on secret societies, it is refreshing to find one so balanced and well documented. Michael Howard's chronology of the influence of the occult tradition and secret societies on world history is alone worth the price of the book. Highly recommended."--Robert R. Hieronimus, Ph.D., author of Founding Fathers, Secret Societies: Freemasons, Illuminati, Rosicrucians and the Decoding of the Great SealFor thousands of years secret societies--guardians of ancient esoteric wisdom--have exercised a strong and often crucial influence on the destiny of nations. Though largely ignored by orthodox historians, the Freemasons, Knights Templar, and Rosicrucians influenced the course of the French and American Revolutions as well as the overthrow of the medieval feudal order. Inevitably, the true ideals and esoteric practices of these societies have, at times, been perverted by self-serving individuals. The Nazis and the Bolsheviks, British security forces, the founding fathers of America, and the Vatican have all justified their actions--for good or for ill--by adopting the mystic ideals of secret societies.Michael Howard explores these connections, tracing their effects in politics and statecraft from the time of ancient Egypt to the present. He sheds light on the influence of secret societies on governments and in the lives of many well-known figures, including Frederick the Great, John Dee, Francis Bacon, Benjamin Franklin, Comte de Cagliostro, Helena Blavatsky, Rasputin, and Woodrow Wilson. He contends that the recent formation of the European Union was directed by an umbrella group of secret societies and reveals that though secret societies have been persecuted throughout history, they have survived and continue to operate powerfully in world affairs today.MICHAEL HOWARD has studied secret societies since 1964 and is an expert on Anglo-Saxon runes. He is the author of more than twenty books, including Traditional Folk Remedies and The Wisdom of the Runes. He lives in Devon, England.

  • - The Ultimate Guide to Meditating with Color, Shape, and Sound
    av Sarah Tomlinson

MEDITATION / EASTERN SPIRITUALITY"Nine Designs for Inner Peace is a practical guide to the ancient tantric art of Yantra painting and Yantra meditation, leaving no detail aside. Shining through in every aspect of the book, one finds the deep inner peace promised as a result of this yoga practice."--Peter Marchand, author of The Yoga of Truth and The Yoga of the Nine Emotions"This masterful guide is a work of warmth, inspiration, and beauty. A brilliant teaching for the artist, yogi, or seeker, it reveals ancient, mystical elements of sacred geometry as meditative tools and powerful connections to the Divine."--Danny Paradise, international ashtanga yoga instructorThe tantric art of drawing or painting the Nine Designs known as Yantras is an ancient practice of active meditation that yields positive healing and centering effects. Each of the corresponds to nine qualities of body and mind essential to well-being: radiance, nourishment, passion, intellect, expansion, bliss, organization, uniqueness, and spirituality. From the basic elements of the square, the circle, and the triangle, dynamic visual meditations unfold as the practitioner works clockwise from the outer elements inward toward the central point of stillness, or bindu, the source of happiness within. While preparing each Yantra, an accompanying mantra is recited to fully engage the senses in the meditative process.Creating the design that "speaks" most to the practitioner enables its unique healing quality to be transmitted. For example, working on the Radiance Yantra cultivates optimism and the self-confidence to succeed in one's endeavors, while "radiating," or imparting, one's inner light to others. This workbook provides an important resource for active meditation, a practice revered for its effectiveness in revealing the spiritual underpinnings of everyday life. The active participation of the body in meditation while creating the nine planetary Yantras raises the practitioner's intentions and actions to the level of spiritual ritual and gives access to profound states of healing integration.SARAH TOMLINSON studied Yantra painting in India with tantric master and artist Harish Johari, who revealed to her the healing power of meditation with Yantras. She is the founder and codirector of the Ayurveda-Yoga Institute of New York, and she trains teachers and students throughout the United States and Kingdom. She lives in Jersey.

  • - Modern Fighting Techniques from the Age of Alexander
    av Kostas Dervenis
    329,-

MARTIAL ARTS "Straightforward and insightful, a refreshingly commonsense approach to the truths hidden within both history and mythology. This is an in-depth piece of research revealing a timeless wisdom and the universality of personal experience. A must-read for all those interested in the roots of our martial and spiritual traditions." --William Gleason, 6th dan, director of Shobu Aikido in Boston, and author of The Spiritual Foundations of Aikido The architectural friezes and decorative motifs of ancient Greece contain abundant scenes of combat, one-on-one and hand-to-hand. In The Martial Arts of Ancient Greece, the authors offer close inspection of these depictions to reveal that they correlate closely to the grappling and combat arts as they are practiced today. They also show that these artifacts document the historical course of the development of both the weaponry of the warrior classes and the martial responses those weapons required with hand-to-hand fighting. The depiction of each ancient technique is accompanied by sequenced step-by-step photos of modern practitioners performing the various stances of one-on-one combat. In addition, the authors explain how the development of Hellenic combat arts was tied at its heart to a spiritual practice. The centeredness, clear mind, and consequent courage that develop from a spiritual practice were considered martial strengths for a warrior, enabling him to be at his best, unobstructed inwardly by conflict or inertia. The Martial Arts of Ancient Greece provides a practical and comprehensive approach to the techniques and philosophy of the martial arts of the ancient Mediterranean that will be welcomed by modern fighters. KOSTAS DERVENIS is a martial arts instructor in jujutsu, pammachon, and t'ai chi chuan. He has written four books on the martial arts and martial traditions, including Nei Kung and The Magus of Java under the pen name Kosta Danaos. NEKTARIOS LYKIARDOPOULOS has a degree in physical therapy and is certified as an instructor in a number of martial arts practices. He began studying martial arts and combat sports in 1983 and has been a member of the Technical Committee of the Hellenic Pankration Federation since 1999. Both authors live in Athens, Greece.

  • av Iamblichus
    299,-

Authentic memoirs of the life of Pythagoras--the father of philosophy and the inventor of geometry--hold the great interest for every lover of wisdom. Iamblichus' biography is universally acknowledged as deriving from sources of the highest antiquity. Its classic translation by Thomas Taylor was first printed in 1818 and is once again brought to light in this edition. During Iamblichus' life, the depth and sublimity of his writing and discourse attracted a multitude of associates and disciples from all parts of the world. The Emperor Julian wrote of him, "that he was posterior indeed in time, but not in genius, to Plato," and all the Platonists who succeeded him honored him with the epithet of "divine." Iamblichus' account of the life of Pythagoras begins with the great philosopher's birth on the island of Samos, his youth, and his wide renown in Greece. It briefly covers his early travels and his studies with the philosophers Anaximander and Thales, his twenty-two years of instruction in the temples of Egypt, and his initiation into the Egyptian and Babylonian mysteries. The later life and work of Pythagoras are richly elaborated, with humorous and profound anecdotes illustrating his philosophy and providing a unique view of community life under his tutelage in Crotona. Included are excerpts from his teachings on harmonic science, dietetic medicine, friendship, temperance, politics, parenthood, the soul's former lives and many other topics. The book also contains substantial sections on the Fragments of the Ethical Writings (the work of very early Pythagoreans) and the Pythagoric Sentences. The translator of this work, THOMAS TAYLOR, is known for his authoritative translations of the Platonists; he was practically the sole source of Neo-Platonic thought in the transcendentalist movement of New England. Iamblichus' Life of Pythagoras was a constant source of inspiration to the transcendentalists and a major influence on their writings throughout the Nineteenth Century. Taylor's work was enthusiastically acclaimed by Emerson, who referred to the translator as "a Greek born out of his time, and dropped on the ridicule of a blind and frivolous age." Sage of Samos, initiate of the mysteries, and transmitter of the ancient wisdom, Pythagoras was a pivotal figure in all of western philosophy and thought. His life is as much an example for us today as it was for his students nearly twenty-five centuries ago.

  • - Eight Stages of Healing and Transformation
    av Susan Wright
    276,99

NEW AGE / PERSONAL GROWTH "Susan Wright's creations epitomize the true meaning of magic. They take us to new levels of consciousness, empowering us to accomplish goals we previously only imagined, to realize our deepest dreams. Read, learn, enjoy--and shapeshift yourself and the world." --From the foreword by John Perkins, bestselling author of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, Shapeshifting, and The World Is As You Dream It The chakra system identifies eight centers in the psycho-anatomy of humans, each one associated with a different part of the physical or energy body. Susan J. Wright, a practicing shaman and Gestalt psychotherapist, uses her own life journey to show that each chakra also is linked to a different stage of emotional and spiritual development. In The Chakras in Shamanic Practice, she identifies eight key developmental stages of life, from birth to old age/death. Each of these life stages has various developmental challenges and potential traumatic events that will likely occur within our culture and affect the health and well-being of the individual. Wright explains that life traumas experienced in particular developmental stages become lodged within the energy body as they cling to their corresponding chakra. By identifying and working with the chakra involved, a doorway can be opened to a world of transformative images, allowing powerful shamanic techniques to heal these psychic wounds. Providing both physical exercises and guided meditations that utilize the techniques of soul retrieval, working with power animals, and transcending trauma, Wright offers practitioners a way to gather and nurture the fragmented parts of their energy body and lead themselves to physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. SUSAN J. WRIGHT, a practicing shaman and licensed massage therapist since 1981, is also certified as both a Gestalt psychotherapist and yoga teacher and is a licensed clinical social worker. She created and facilitates a shamanic training program at her healing center, Birth of Venus, in Mamaroneck, New York, where she integrates social work, psychotherapy, and shamanism with yoga, belly dancing, and craniosacral therapy and other bodywork techniques. She lives in Mamaroneck, New York.
