The significance of female marginalization and inclusion in leadership decision making has beenincreasingly a topic of deliberation. Women and men share typical characteristics such asknowledge, educational qualification, expertise, socioeconomic status, yet women arecontinuously marginalized. The bias that women face because of their gender is a lot morepronounced in countries where the traditional roles of the sexes are defined rigidly. Due to thesestrict gender roles, women find it hard to get to the positions of leadership in organizations.Gender discrimination against women in the workplace is a common issue that women aroundthe world face. Leadership becomes almost impossible for women in countries, especially in theAfrican region, where women become dependent on their partners, and they have to live in anycircumstances that are made available to them. Although the number of working women isincreasing in these regions, these women still face workplace discrimination almost daily. Thepurpose of this case study is to understand how women in leadership describe their rise toleadership in Nigeria. The theory guiding this study is Heilman's (1983) lack of fit model. This isthe most well-known theory that concentrates on unfairness against women leaders. Qualitativemethod was used in this research because of its distinctive methodological traditions of inquirythat explores a human socio problem. Participants were Nigerian women in leadership positions.Interviews were carried out with participants; themes were aligned for multiple participants sucheducation, culture, sexuality as well as authentic leadership.

The present volume comprises studies that focus on the concept of legitimation andits manifestations in language use. They examine relevant sociopolitical aspects asreflected in spoken, printed and digital texts in Malaysian political discourse between2008 and 2020. Legitimation is an essential element of any political discourse whichmakes this volume relevant both to a broad spectrum of scholars and the generalpublic. While there is no unitary definition of the concept, in most research the notionof legitimation is explained as a process of justification of a particular norm, beliefand/or performance by actors holding power and/or claiming authority. Legitimationis one of the core concepts in social sciences used in theorising political governance, that is, political authority and political order (c.f. Biegön [2016] for an overview).Drawing on Weber¿s conceptualisation of legitimacy (2019), several dimensionsof legitimation are particularly considered in research studies: next to the attitudinal(people have to believe in the rightfulness of a particular legitimate order) andbehavioural (when they believe that particular order is legitimate, they can act inorder to comply with it) dimensions, one of the most important roles is attributedto communication (Schneider, Nullmeier & Hurrelmann, 2007). The nexus betweenpolitical communication and legitimacy is elaborated especially in theories of democracy(Otfried & Sarcinelli, 1998, p. 253; Sarcinelli, 2013, p. 93), which view thesetwo features of political discourse as mutually dependent. If legitimacy is conveyedfirst and foremost through communication, then it is language as one of the mostimportant means of communication that has to be included when analysing legitimationprocesses. At this intersection, political sciences and linguistics meet, callingfor a cross-disciplinary view on legitimation as "a political-linguistic concept" (Cap,2008, p. 22).

Xiang Biao's*1 Self as Method is an unusual book. It was published inChina in 2020 by Dandu, a newish publishing house that promises to"unite a new generation of authors and readers through text, audio, video, and multimedia platforms."2 The project originated with Dandueditor Luo Danni*, based on her observation that many Chinese peopleappear not to be very happy as "China's century" dawns. At first glance, this may seem strange because, after a century and a half of humiliation, crisis, and struggle, China in the early twenty-first century seems poisedto reestablish its historical position as a (if not the) center of the world.Reform and opening have succeeded beyond the wildest dreams of thosewho initially conceived the policies, and China in 2020 is vastly richer andmore powerful than China in 1980.Yet despite China's rise, many Chinese people, and particularly Chineseyoung people-while patriotic and proud of China's rise-are anxiousand dissatisfied, at least with their individual lives and life chances. If thepolicy of reform and opening has transformed the Chinese economy, ithas also brought intense competitiveness, sky-rocketing real estate prices, China's mega-cities like Beijing and Shanghai, young people often feellike they are running in place-and running hard-as China's period ofhigh-speed growth threatens to sputter out.Luo Danni recruited Dandu journalist Wu Qi* to work on the project, and decided to address this issue in a volume that targets younger readers, which surely made good sense. In addition to their economic anxieties, young people in China might be forgiven for feeling somewhat lost ingeneral. Change in China has been blindingly rapid over the past fewdecades, to the point that Chinese authors often speak of generationalgroups of as few as five years (i.e., the "1995-2000 generation"). Thismight be an exaggeration, but it is nonetheless true that while in 1980there were almost no private phones in China, today everyone lives ontheir smart phone; while in 1980, everyone rode their identical FlyingPigeon bicycle (if they could get one) to and from work or school, nowthey take a Didi* (China's Uber) to...the airport and hence the world (atleast in pre-pandemic times)
