"A 17th century wife had limited choices; go along with her husband's plans willingly or begrudgingly. Mary Brewster, wife of Elder William Brewster of Mayflower and Plimoth Plantation fame, chose love over resentment. Love inspired her to sacrifice her time, health, and safety for the sake of others. Her commitment to William and their children took her away from her tranquil English hamlet to flee across the North Sea as a refugee. A decade later she sailed on the Mayflower as one of the Separatists destined to establish a new English colony in North America.Through life-threatening transitions, she displayed unrelenting loyalty and service to others. Her compassion encompassed family, friends, orphaned children, young adults, and total strangers. Mary Brewster earned the title Matriarch of the Mayflower. When other women might have chosen differently, she repeatedly chose to support William, even when his convictions exposed her to deprivations and danger. She exemplifies an all-powerful love that bears all challenges, endures losses, and transforms people and places."--

Welcome to the Mustard Seed, your locally-sourced, gay-owned, natural foods grocer! Our cashier, "Zachary," will guide you through the aisles. In Grocery, you'll find purple-haired, bisexual dread. In Supplements, overpriced herbs for every internet ailment. Produce stocks $5 apples, but the weed is cheap. (Ask the manager.) Cold-cuts and drunk sluts in the Deli. The Hot Bar costs $20 a plate, and all leftovers are thrown away by hungry employees, per management. If you drink mud, visit our Coffee Station. We also sell a variety of kombuchas and gluten-free, nonalcoholic IPAs for sober celiac's. And don't forget to check out the guys at the Juice Bar, like our oversexed owner does every time he visits unannounced. Feel free to leave your shopping cart in the parking lot.Sugar le Fae's debut collection, The Mustard Seed, is a nuanced-queer, sad, funny, biting-reflection on American consumerism and the commiseration among service workers. In its structure, this verse memoir borrows from classical song cycles or the concept albums of Tori Amos. The poems flow like scenes, a mix-tape, a dozen short films in each season. These regular cadences allow for bite-sized worldbuilding that adds up to a meal. Particular attention is paid to line-breaks-that unique poetic mechanism for stacking meanings. At its best, this collection lays language bare, makes it aware of itself, slows us down. And if nothing else, there's nothing else like it.

Poetry is my go-to medium and is, perhaps, the most representative for people of all ages. Unlike the cycles of classical heroic epics, these occasional poems are shorter, more intimate works, with a more scattered pedigree but often similar themes. The Resident was written over the last decade and features work from three countries, England, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates. It follows on the heels of the translations in The Accidental Ethnographer, composed while I was resident in Abu Dhabi and co-translated from Arabic, hence the title. I bring my own voice to the party, and in so doing, hope to encourage others who feel unrepresented to compose vignettes of their own devising.

Hospitality is a hallmark of South Asia that I have enthusiastically embraced wherever life has taken me. The world of diplomacy revolves around forging connections, and I encouraged my husband to invite people home. Sometimes the dinner table was a more relaxed place to resolve issues that were challenging to navigate in the hallowed halls of the United Nations.Home entertaining is not for everyone. People with fully staffed establishments have conniptions over an extra couple joining them for a meal. Others I know will gladly host ten in a studio apartment and be having fun the whole time. I was always so engrossed in hosting that I never really stopped to think what I was doing until Covid-19 suddenly disrupted life, as we knew it. Discovering the trail of that experience compelled me to honor, through food and remembrances, the people who have come through my life. In this work, experiences, dishes, and people mingle in an assemblage that I hope captures the fusion of our life. Most of the recipes here are staples that saw me through the busiest times, made in bulk for a formal gathering, and then stored, ready to be defrosted for undergrads arriving off the Chinatown bus. South Asian cuisine caters to households bursting at the seams. But beyond the recipes, I also hope to impart an outlook on connections and entertaining at home.

Mama and Papa bird teach Baby bird in this colorful animation about life in the traditional family nest.Mom's Choice and Benjamin Franklin award winner. Destined to become a classic - Midwest Book Review.Mama Bird Papa Bird is the first book in a series that teach children about life, family and growing up in a family. This book sets up a series of books to follow with titles such as: Mama Bird Papa Bird Obey Right Away and Mama Bird Papa Bird Tell the Truth (Spring 2023). The Spanish/English version was created specifically for those who are learning or beginning Spanish, and for those who do not speak English, so that youngsters and their parents and grandparents can read together. Mama Bird Papa Bird books do not identify gender, so that male or female can identify with Baby Bird. This was written intentionally gender free to reach all children, regardless of gender, and focus on the actions of Bay Bird. Actions such as: learning how to fly, learning how to sing, learning how to obey, and learning the importance of telling the truth. Mama Bird Papa Bird books end with a question: "If you were a baby bird, what would you do?" Again, intentionally designed to ask the question what would you do, versus who are you? Mama Bird Papa Bird was also designed to help parents announce the potential birth/addition to their family in a non explicit way for children. Overall, Mama Bird Papa Bird is ideal for first time mothers, grandmothers and families who want to explain about life in its beginning. Mama Bird Papa Bird is colorfully illustrated by Faith Thomas, in soft watercolors that depict a family of Robins. The author, Wanda Obermeier was born in Wisconsin, where Robins are the state bird. She spent many hours as a child observing them and being awakened each morning by their lovely song that is so very distinguished from all the others birds. Mama Bird Papa Bird has been criticized for being about a traditional family, however, since most birds mate for life, it seemed proper to identify them as a family.

This book reprints the contents of Steve Ditko's 176 Page Package, originally published in 2000, with the exception of a 30-page story, "Mr. A. Faces the Knifer." For some stories contained herein, Ditko created new characters. For other stories, he brought back characters he'd created previously. This powerful collection is a fine example of Ditko's skill in visual storytelling.

The true story of one individual's campaign against the big banks of America in an attempt to save the world's economy.Throughout world history, empires have collapsed due to widespread corruption and lack of accountability; unfortunately, Hoffman came to realize that America could follow this trend, but he remains determined to prevent that from ever happening. In his debut memoir, Hoffman exposes corruption within America's big banks while recounting his valiant campaign against it. A main focus of Rant is exposing how financial institutions manipulated oil prices following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 - an act that Hoffman believes set citizens back financially and ultimately became a factor behind the start of the Great Recession. In the following years, he embarked on an epic journey to bring this misdeed to the attention of senators, trade commissions, the FBI, and many others. Hoffman faced his fair share of resistance throughout his crusade against corruption, but he never allowed any roadblocks to deter his fight for the truth. With years of experience in macroeconomics, he's able to take complex concepts and write about them in a simple, yet entertaining way that will resonate with any reader. Rant sets a new standard for gripping, unforgettable memoirs. Don't miss out on the truth - read Rant today!
