Majeed Amjad's initial collection of poetry, "Shab e Rafta," was published in 1958, accompanied by a preface in verse penned by the poet himself. This collection was published by Naya Idara in Lahore and stands as the sole publication during his lifetime, despite his consistent writing throughout his years. This edition of the book faithfully revives the original publication, preserving it in its exact form as it was initially presented. Following Amjad's passing, the manuscripts of his unpublished poetry were safeguarded by Javaid Qureshi, who served as the deputy commissioner of Sahiwal at the time. In 1976, Javaid Qureshi and others released a second collection of Amjad's poetry under the title "Shab e Rafta Ke Baad." It wasn't until 1989 that Urdu critic Khawaja Muhammad Zakariya undertook the task of editing and publishing a comprehensive collection of Amjad's works, titled "Kuliyat e Majeed Amjad." From aaliyah arshad, comes her debut poetry collection. Moments of Metamorphosis is a collection of tales that surrounds our ever-blossoming evolution. These sprinkles of words are about the flittering of emotions and thoughts that travel through us and around us. This book is about understanding what evolution truly is: metamorphosing into a new form. Seeing yourself through a new lens, as someone you love just as fondly as the version you leave behind every day. Aaliyah's poems walk the reader through the inevitability of change and how resisting this does you more harm than good. The hope of this collection is that you can find comfort in this evolution. That you can uncover and manifest the highest version of yourself. That as we continue to metamorphose, these words can swim into your soul so you can also find your own moments of metamorphosis. It's only my reflection nowBut then the sky soars downEnvelops me in blues, purples and pinksSecrets disguised in the wind of what my future will bring.I'm not listeningRight now I'm focusing on the soundsThe cold pricking my hands as I writeThe whispers of my bonesAnd the wind on my soul. *AWARD WINNING FINALIST - INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARDS* Art imitates life and reflects our human condition which fluctuates from moment to moment along with our ever-changing life experience of the times we live in. My first short story collection, The Small Dark Room of the Soul and Other Stories was published thirty years ago and made references to the collective fears of those times. Much has happened over the last three decades since then with shifting geopolitics, explosive growth in science, technology, pandemics, school shootings, chaotic weather patterns, homelessness, and all the other problems we are still struggling with as we move deeper into the twenty-first century. Twenty years later, my second short story collection, A Short Walk to the Other Side was published, following the similar theme of how close we all are to our demons, no matter how much we try to ignore and rid ourselves of them. We are all just a short walk away from a thought, act, or emotion that lets the monster out of its cage, taking us hostage into the abyss with it, sometimes with no escape. This, my third short story collection, The Thinning Veil follows the same train of thought. In this case it doesn't matter if the demons are locked in a small dark room, or just a short walk away, because the veil between the worlds is thinning and the boundaries have become blurred, bringing more weight to the question; what or where are the boundaries between what we believe to be real and what we imagine? Erudite, eloquent, iconoclastic, "The Thinning Veil" once again showcases author Matthew J. Pallamary's mastery of the short story, raising this literary format to an impressively high level of literary fiction. Thoughtful, thought-provoking, entertaining, and memorable, the thirteen short stories comprising "The Thinning Veil" are especially and unreservedly recommended for community and college/university library Contemporary American Literary Fiction collections. Penrose and Pyke go together like fire and kerosene in this pulse-racing Victorian-era mystery. Trouble's brewing in the Devil's Half Acre. A death in an alleyway, a tragic accident in a factory, rumours of a murderer loose on the streets. It's enough to give a genteel lady a fit of the vapours. Fortunately, Grace Penrose isn't one to swoon at the sight of blood. All she wants is the chance to become the first woman doctor in the colony. Instead, she is plunged into the harsh reality of the city's worst sweatshop, where tensions are running as hot as a steam engine. When the police prove reluctant to investigate the deaths, she turns to a constable who is already up to his neck in trouble. Grace Penrose and Constable Charlie Pyke must figure out which deaths are accidents and which are murders, because the next victim might well be one of their own. The Penrose & Pyke Mysteries are set during a remarkable period of social upheaval in 1890s New Zealand. The fight for women's rights has never been such deadly fun.
