  • - A Dog Story
    av Cat L Needham
    179,-

In the style of James Thurber's "The Dog Department" meets "Marley and Me", "Shepherd Girl: A Dog Story" chronicles the exploits of Athena, a silly long-coated German shepherd. Athena is goofy, clumsy, and vain, and although she successfully foils a stranger's abduction of the author in a dark parking lot, she also finds time to chase lawn gnomes, strip the author topless at the Dog Park, and play-bow to stuffed toys at an age when she should know better. Athena is at times exasperating and certainly no perfect replica of Rin Tin Tin, but the underlying love and devotion between dog and author are undeniable. For all who have loved a dog, Shepherd Girl: A Dog Story will remind them why. "If you've ever considered bringing home the spunky little German shepherd puppy that caught your eye, you might think again after reading Cat Needham's hilarious recount of one frenzied moment after another with Athena." - Bob Tarte, Author of "Enslaved by Ducks" and "Fowl Weather"

  • - Over 25 Years After Fall: Tracking the Remnant from the Wedding District to the Oberbaum Bridge
    av Marques Vickers
    289,-

One of the most unconventional and fascinating tours of Berlin should include tracing the path of the former historic Berlin Wall. This edition takes you on a visual tour showcasing the changes, constructions and alterations to the terrain that for thirty-eight years divided Berlin. Over 325 images intimately detail the core of the city's center, commencing from the northern Wedding district to southern Oberbaum Bridge. Concise commentary illuminates the background of prominent structures, memorials and historical events. Over a quarter century has followed the permanent dismantlement of the concrete slab barrier. Few remnant sections still remain. The outline of the wall has been identified locally through dual rectangular cobblestones embedded in the streets, walkways and under structures. The visual pathway showcases what remains and what has been reconstructed since the German reunification of 1990. Berlin has eluded becoming a mausoleum of antiquated remembrance. The city radiates vibrancy. It has successfully integrated the shame of historical actions, consequences and memorials into its present tense. The majority of new constructions are located within the former territories of East Berlin. That land was essentially vacant in 1989 when the Wall was first permanently breeched. Due to its previous proximity to the Wall, the real estate then was significantly undervalued. This valuation discrepancy no longer exists." Amongst his most notable images include the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Adolph Hitler's Bunker site, The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie, East Side Gallery, Lantag of Prussia Building, Topography of Terror Museum, foundational remains of the Gestapo headquarters, Oberbaum Bridge and the lone stretch of remaining undeveloped No Man's Land in the core of Berlin. His visual documentary also includes residential, commercial and governmental buildings, cemeteries, memorials and neighborhoods. The Berlin Wall's creation did not immediately follow the conclusion of World War II. The East German Democratic Republic (GDR) was established in 1949 under Soviet Union occupation. Russian domination proved unpopular amongst a large percentage of the eastern population. A 1953 Berlin worker's uprising directly challenged Russian authority and was brutally crushed. The sole outlet for protest and discontent became flight to West Germany via the portal of Berlin. Within twelve years of existence, the GDR had lost 20% of its population, particularly badly need skilled laborers and professionals. At the summit of the exodus, approximately 1,000 people per day were defecting to the West. On August 13, 1961, East Berlin residents awoke to barbed wire fencing that had been installed dividing the city's east and west sectors. Dual concrete barricades incrementally fortified this temporary barrier. The failure of the GDR and the Berlin Wall remain valid lessons for today. Insight may be perceived regarding Russia's renewed foreign policy aggressiveness and political discussions about the construction of national barriers. The edition illustrates how Berlin expediently revitalized desolate urban wasteland into aesthetic and functional relevance. The Berlin guide is the perfect travel accompaniment for viewing a fascinating slice of Berlin many tourists overlook. The work can also serve as a valuable reference overview even if one never sets foot in the city.

  • - As Told by Henry the Hoot Owl
    av Jana Henderson
    279

One of the most intimidating parts of being adoptive parents is finding the best way to tell a child he or she is adopted. Parents worry that their child will interpret that truth to mean they aren't as wanted or loved, since the birth mother might to appear to have just "given them away." Jana Henderson was faced with this dilemma as her son, Matthew, turned five and was old enough to be told the truth. Overwhelmed at the prospect, Jana thought it would be easiest if she could just read Matthew a story which explains adoption in a light that shows just how much an adoptive child is loved and wanted. She wanted to find a story that demonstrates how much the parents searched and waited for their child to come into their lives.Jana hunted through book stores and the internet for a suitable story but couldn't find anything close to what she needed; so, she decided to write the story herself. Jana says, "I wanted it to be a fun story, but also very factual." The story she wrote is of a young boy named Avery who has an owl-friend that flies to his window each night and tells him a bedtime story. One night, Henry the Hoot Owl let Avery know that the story he had for him that evening was an important story, "one that is wonderful and true."Through the storytelling of the Owl to Avery, Jana was able to show how a little boy was greatly loved by his birth-mother, so much so that she wanted him to have the perfect parents. It also shows the adoptive parents waiting, praying, and hoping for their little boy. The story demonstrates the great joy everyone felt when the boy was adopted by his new parents, and all the ways they became a loving family. At the end of the story, Henry the Hoot Owl reveals that Avery is the little boy in the story.Jana used this heart-felt story that she had written to explain to Matthew that he is Avery in the story. She reports that the story was a huge success. Reading it to Matthew didn't leave him wondering or having any questions about his adoption. Jana explains, "To our amazement, he was perfectly OK with this knowledge. Our son understood and our fears were erased."A year later, without any further mention of his adoption, Matthew made a small comment to his mom, letting her know that he remembered being adopted. Jana was shocked and asked him if he recalled their talk and the story she had read to him. Matthew said, "Yes, I remember the story. I held it in my heart." Jana had to leave the room quickly so he wouldn't see her burst into tears.Matthew is seventeen today, and a senior in high school. Jana has thought for many years about sharing the story she wrote as a book, so that it might assist other adoptive parents to have a positive way to tell their children how they came to be a family. My Adoption Story as Told by Henry the Hoot Owl was released in the summer of 2017 by Triumph Press and is a colorful illustrated children's book that Jana Henderson hopes will be that missing resource to help other adoptive parents during the wonderful and overwhelming time in their lives when they tell their adoptive child how much they are loved.

Invisible Warrior is a memoir. It is a valuable historical account of my growing up in New York. An insider's look into a housing project experiment, which yielded mostly failure. It is also an inspiring narrative that demonstrates success is possible even under harsh conditions. Escaping with two small children, an early pregnancy and thirty-five cents, we proved life's possibilities and its glimmer of an indistinguishable light at the end of a dark tunnel.

Men fall hard. Rockstars? Fall the hardest. This is the conclusion to Alec and Nat's story.I breathed in and out for a few seconds as I waited at the end of the aisle. It felt like I was standing overlooking the edge of a cliff, and the minute I saw my future wife, I was going to freefall. The music started.Shit, I was seriously going to pass out.People stood, Demetri nodded his head and patted me on the back. And then I saw her.It was like seeing her for the first time all over again. Memories of meeting her that first day of school had me grinning from ear to ear. The local girl, who didn't even know who I was the first time she saw me, fell for me. And in return, gave me her heart for safekeeping. I ached to touch her as she walked slowly down the aisle. Her brown eyes met mine. And I lost it. Every single fear that I was holding on to snapped.Forget drugs.Forget needing to calm down.I couldn't stop my heart from beating out of my chest, and I didn't want to. I just wanted to touch her, to tell her how pretty she was in her white dress. I wanted to promise her forever, I wanted to be her eternity.

This book contains a compilation of various teachings such as presenting the correct image of Christ, being a Glorious body for God, being stable in the Lord. The church must come to realize that we are not of this world but are only visiting ambassadors from Heaven (II Cor. 5:20). The Body of Christ cannot accurately portray Christ to people if it is not representing Christ in the correct manner within its own body. So I challenge you to put these teaching to the test, to determine if your life properly portrays the character of the Living Christ. May God bless you for taking the time to read these teachings, and I pray that He makes your true purpose known unto you.
